It highlights the strong impact of light on this rhythm, clarifies how the 24 hour timing system works, and shares ways that consistent, healthy routines can support circadian balance and overall wellness. The Berry Collective brings a salon-style program to The Chapel at West Parish in honor of SoHIP’s 40th anniversary, focusing on chamber works from the 1760s through the 1790s performed by four players in shifting combinations. The program traces the evolution from accompanied keyboard sonatas, where strings mainly supported the keyboard, to fully collaborative writing, with keyboard quartets by Schobert and Mozart serving as opening and closing touchstones. Ernst Eichner’s Op. 10 duos for violin and viola demand two virtuosos, while Beethoven’s Op. 5 cello sonatas spotlight bravura writing crafted for the composer himself and cellist Jean-Louis Duport. Heard on period instruments, including a Viennese five-octave fortepiano, the repertoire emphasizes intimacy and collegial musical dialogue. Performers are Keats Dieffenbach on violin, Emily Rideout on violin and viola, Rebecca Shaw on cello, and Sylvia Berry at the fortepiano. While you are there, enjoy nearby Livingston Park amenities such as a splash pad, playground, skate park, tennis courts marked for pickleball, basketball courts, ball fields, an exercise court, a pavilion, and a small free library. Parking is available in five nearby lots, including across the street by the football fields and next to the playground, and a limited number of marked accessible spaces can be found in the small lot in front of the Recreation Center. A NEMBA group ride explores the technical trails of Lowell-Dracut-Tyngsboro State Forest in a welcoming, supportive setting. It is geared toward intermediate riders at about levels 4 to 6, with optional lines rated 7 and above for those seeking extra challenge. Expect a moving pace of roughly 4.5 to 7 mph, with an overall average near 4 to 6 mph including stops. Nobody is left behind, and the ride regroups at intersections. Downtown Lowell, Massachusetts comes alive with a free, three-day showcase of global music and culture presented on four stages. The initial lineup features Elida Almeida, a Cape Verdean singer and songwriter whose repertoire draws on funaná and batuque. Melissa Carper appears with Emily Gimble and guitarist Myrah Burnette, bringing timeless country songwriting and classic tones. Dat Mighty 9 shares New Orleans Black Masking Carnival music as an eight-piece band led by Big Chief Romeo Bougere, steeped in funk, hip hop, and R&B. John Doyle & Friends unites Doyle with Eamon O’Leary, Duncan Wickel, and Lily Henley for masterful Irish traditional music, also tracing connections to Appalachian roots. Puerto Rican cuatrista Fabiola Méndez performs with her quartet featuring Miguel Martinez, Juan Maldonado, and Adrian Maldonado. Spectators can get a close look at the entries on Market Street, enjoy opening ceremonies, then follow the race highlights. A family fun zone at Lowell Heritage State Park offers food trucks, live music, games, and more. The day wraps with a finish on Market Street and a block party with awards at Warp and Weft. The event is a component fund supported by the Greater Lowell Community Foundation, a tax-exempt 501(c)(3), with additional support from the Massachusetts Cultural Council and the Lowell Cultural Council.

A hands-on wood carving class at Epigram Brew Co. guides participants through safe technique, tool care, and the fundamentals of creating a project from start to finish. This session focuses on spoon carving and begins with introductions, safety instruction, and a walkthrough of the tools and materials. The lesson covers how to choose and gather wood, how to sharpen and use carving tools, the step by step process for shaping the piece, and how to care for it afterward. All tools and materials are provided, including sharpeners and locally sourced carving wood, and most attendees finish a project to take home by the end of class. Arriving a little early makes it easy to order food and a drink before carving. This class is part of a year-round series with topics that change, and it is taught by Owl Eyes Wilderness Survival’s lead instructors, who bring over 30 years of combined experience in wood crafting, survival skills, and outdoor guiding. Carving tools are available to borrow or purchase during class. Recommended personal gear includes a carving tool and cut resistant or leather gloves, though everything needed to participate is supplied.

During registration, Hidden Battles will offer raffle tickets, 50/50 tickets, and mulligans for purchase, with select holes featuring special activities. Payments can be made by cash, check, Venmo, credit card, or online, and an ATM will be available on site. Alcohol purchased from the Trull Brook restaurant or beverage carts may be taken onto the course, but outside alcohol is not allowed and cooler bags are prohibited. Lowell historian Richard Howe leads a 90-minute walking tour of Lowell Cemetery, guiding visitors through a picturesque, garden-style landscape and the aesthetics of the Victorian era. Established in 1841, the cemetery is the resting place of Nancy “Annie” Richmond, whose connection to Edgar Allan Poe remains a long-standing mystery. The tour also offers perspective on the Lowell that Poe encountered during his visits to the city. Meet at the Knapp Avenue entrance.
