Twice each month, Salsa-in Lowell students and friends meet at Sahel Restaurant for an evening that begins with a free salsa class and continues with a social dance set to music curated by Franswa. The Rasa String Quartet performs highlights from scores including Inception, The Lion King, Madagascar, Dunkirk, The Pacific, The Dark Knight, Wonder Woman, Gladiator, Interstellar, Dune, Sherlock Holmes, and Pirates of the Caribbean. Crawford Memorial United Methodist Church hosts a Last Hope K9 Rescue adoption event featuring adoptable dogs. An application on file is required to enter the adoption area, and it can be completed in advance or upon arrival. Fully approved adopters are admitted earlier than those with applications still in process. To ensure there is enough time to complete placements and deposits, adoption and deposit conversations conclude shortly before the event ends. Dogs are available on a first come, first served basis, so arriving early is recommended if there is a specific pup you hope to meet. Fully approved attendees with no pets or additional humans at home may be able to adopt and bring a dog home the same day. Please bring a 6 foot non retractable leash. Fully approved attendees who have pets or additional household members, as well as those with applications in process, can place a $100 deposit toward the final adoption fee if they make a connection. She has released eight albums as a leader and collaborated with artists including Allison Miller, Lee Konitz, John Zorn, Angelica Sanchez, The Femme Jam, Miles Okazaki, Nicole Mitchell, Rajna Swaminathan, and Matt Mitchell. Recent work includes Portals, which reflects on grief and memory, and contributions to Terri Lyne Carrington’s New Standards. She also teaches courses on gender in jazz at The New School and maintains a private studio at the Manhattan School of Music. Trumpeter Kelly Bray and drummer Denver Nuckolls open the program. The New England brain tumor community gathers at DCR Mother’s Rest at Carson Beach for a 5K walk that raises awareness and funds to support people with brain tumors and the families who stand with them. Learn to make your own dirt cups and Halloween treats in a hands-on baking class that builds core kitchen skills.
