    Tivoli Day

Circuit Ave, Oak Bluffs · verified Sep 4
    See details

Tivoli Day fills Circuit Ave in Oak Bluffs with a vibrant street festival that spotlights neighborhood businesses, great food, live music, local art, and a strong sense of community. The celebration began in 1978 when friends Ed Coogan and Michael Wild energized the town, with support from police chief Peter Williamson and the business association. In its early years, a 100 kilometer bicycle race around the Island took center stage, coordinated by Margaret and Bill Stafursky, and it grew from 42 professional cyclists to hundreds from across the United States. Memorable moments became part of its lore, from a lively sendoff outside Giordano’s, to a pace car guiding the riders, to a support van whose driver used the code name Nurse Nancy, and a post race stop at the Ritz. The festivities also included a harbor celebration with decorated boats, friendly croquet in Ocean Park accompanied by Beatles songs from local band PAX, and a kids tricycle race around the Flying Horses. Today the tradition continues in the same hometown spirit, with Circuit Ave filled with the flavors, sounds, and creativity of Oak Bluffs.
