Their relationship unfolds amid the upheaval of the late 1960s, including anti-war activism in Greenwich Village, pulling them into sweeping social change. The celebration moves from foundational pioneers to contemporary voices, acknowledging artists such as MC Sha-Rock, The Sequence, Roxanne Shante, Sweet Tea, Lady of Rage, Heather B, Gangsta Boo, Monie Love, J.J. Fad, Foxy Brown, Trina, Lil’ Kim, Lauren Hill, Erykah Badu, Rapsody, Tierra Wack, Little Simz, Bahamadia, Megan Thee Stallion, Doechii, Cardi B, and Nicki Minaj. This community clinic offers the 5 Point National Acupuncture Detox Association Protocol in a shared treatment setting. The ear acupuncture approach is used to ease stress and anxiety, support detox from alcohol, drugs, sugar, and tobacco, reduce pain, and address other related concerns. Participants should bring their own warm clothing or a blanket for comfort, as VCM does not supply blankets. Due to limited capacity, a reservation is required to secure a spot. History is heard as well as written in a program at the Martha’s Vineyard Museum that spotlights the legacy of HBCU radio during HBCU Legacy Week on the Vineyard. The conversation centers on the HBCU Radio Preservation Project and honors decades of Black leadership, music, and community storytelling preserved in the archives of North Carolina Central University’s WNCU 90.7 FM and Elizabeth City State University’s WRVS-FM. Expect insights from NCCU and ECSU archivists on preservation and storytelling, a look at the vital role of community broadcasting in collaboration with MVY Radio, and perspectives from emerging voices connected to the Storytellers Lab. Lead-up interviews will air on The Vineyard Current on MVY Radio. The discussion features Dr. S. Keith Hargrove, chancellor of Elizabeth City State University; Bryna Jean-Marie, a Howard alumna and Chief Communications and Storytelling Officer at The Hip Hop Museum; Sherice Malachi, an NCCU alumna affiliated with United Way Worldwide and the Tom Joyner Foundation as a consultant; Jazz Young, a Howard alumna known as the Hip Hop Professor and director of the Warner Music/Blavatnik Center for Music Business; and Ti-Shea Meadows, founder of Storytellers Lab supporting next-generation HBCU storytellers. The conversation is moderated by Steph Lova, a Howard alumna and legendary radio personality. Refreshments are provided by New England Sweetwater Farm & Distillery, owned by Hampton University alumna Alisa Lawrence, and a reception follows the program. Behind the Lines follows historian Andrew Carroll as he travels the world to locate and preserve letters written during wartime. Adapted from Carroll’s New York Times bestselling book of the same name, the film was selected as a finalist for the 2024 Ken Burns Prize for Film. Narrated by Annette Bening, it features performances by Laura Dern, Kelvin Harrison Jr., Michael C. Hall, Gary Cole, Rachel Bloom, Dewanda Wise, Paul Walter Hauser, Wes Studi, and others. The program includes a Q&A with director and writer John B. Benitz and book author Andrew Carroll, who is the subject of the film.

Pamela Garcia presents a new master class shaped for Aligned Pilates, building on her renowned Devil’s in the Details and now offered as Devil’s in the Levels. Working across Reformer, Mat, and Tower, the session is rooted in the classical Pilates tradition and examines how quality emerges through intentional progression across levels, apparatus, and spatial orientation. The emphasis is on precision, clarity, and intelligent layering rather than more choreography, which can transform both how an exercise feels and what it delivers. Participants explore how careful organization, thoughtful sequencing, and meaningful transitions can make familiar movements feel fresh. Teachers refine their eye for purposeful progression so intensity, challenge, and genuine expression arise naturally. Attention is given to the way shapes evolve in space, how patterns carry across different pieces of equipment, and how transitions become an integral part of the overall flow. Core themes include defining clear start and finish points that gain depth as levels change, using classical progressions to build intelligence, resilience, and longevity, distributing and redistributing weight through motion, balancing stability with mobility as complexity increases, expressing the two-way stretch with intention, understanding how open and closed chain actions influence control, strength, and freedom, moving efficiently through all planes and across apparatus, approaching alignment as adaptive and responsive rather than fixed, developing a nuanced relationship to gravity, and crafting transitions that feel seamless and expressive. Explore the African American Heritage Trail of Martha’s Vineyard on a fully narrated tour led by expert guides who share thoroughly researched stories about the Island’s rich, previously undocumented Black history. Covering sites in Oak Bluffs and Edgartown, the experience typically lasts around two hours and may extend slightly. The trail now includes 41 historic locations, among them Shearer Cottage, the homes of Dorothy West and George and Carrie Tankard, and notable landmarks such as Cottagers’ Corner, Overton House, and Eastville Cemetery. The legacies uncovered by founders Carrie Camillo Tankard and Elaine Cawley Weintraub are central to the storytelling. Proceeds from every ticket support community scholarships, student mentorships, and the development of new trail sites, and children 12 and under receive half-price admission. The meeting point is outside the Steamship Authority Oak Bluffs Terminal, where the tour leader can be found near a white van with the AAHTMV logo.

Performers include soprano Dr. Jolie Rocke, mezzo Inayah Raheem and tenor Avid Williams, with violinists Mina Lavcheva and Lilit Hartunian, violist Jason Amos, cellist Richard Jimenez, and pianist Sarah Ruff. The repertoire features works by the Blacknificent 7 Composer Collective, with music by Jessie Montgomery, Jasmine Arielle Barnes, Shawn Okpebholo, Damien Geter, Dave Ragland, Joel Thompson, and Carlos Simon. The concert also unveils the world premiere of A Song for Humanity by emerging composer Jaylin Vinson, commissioned through the Blacknificent 7 and supported by the American Composers Forum's Recomposing America initiative. The program offers an inspiring mix of vocal and chamber works that reflect on identity, freedom, faith, resilience, and shared humanity. Recomposing America is a multi-year American Composers Forum effort that commissions new works, fosters partnerships, and sparks public dialogue to illuminate perspectives from across the United States and the broader Americas, aligned with the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence and intended to reexamine national stories. Their 2024 recital series in Scotland raised more than $1,500 for local charities, and a July 2025 performance raised $1,200 for the Sexual Assault Center of Northwest Georgia. They have also organized outreach performances with the Elgin Rotary club and a local school, and participated in a strings workshop for young musicians. They have met and worked with Fraser and Haas in Scotland.
