In a gallery style setting, two open channels remain in surrender so the intelligence present in the shared field can speak through them. Messages may appear as a guide, an ancestor, a collective presence, or something without a personal identity. Nothing is chosen, steered, or called in, and what comes is simply what is already here. Each message reaches the person it is meant for. The experience is immediate, fluid, and responsive, more a transmission than a conventional reading. For those drawn to a direct encounter with the unknown made audible. The channelers are Cris Perro and Leslie Gabriele of With Love and Gratitude, a nonprofit devoted to education and service.

Colón, a Puerto Rican singer who began with Fast Taker and earned a top 10 rock radio single in Puerto Rico, has showcased his range with Gothic Knights, Culprit, White Wizzard and Rowan Robertson. Gulino, from New Jersey, adds East Coast energy and a résumé that includes chart success and extensive touring with Tantric and other acts. The performance highlights career-spanning favorites along with a strong dose of Dokken material. Between Languages: The Power of Multilingualism

206 Waltham St, West Newton · verified Sep 27
    See details

Explore how multilingualism shapes learning and family life in a presentation with Dr. Beata Schmid. The session looks at how children acquire languages, what research reveals, and practical ways families can navigate communication in bilingual and multilingual homes. It also considers the choices parents face about which language to use with their children and traces the long running public debate around bilingual education that has continued internationally since the 1960s, when early school programs began in Canada. Dr. Schmid will share recommendations for parents, caretakers and educators, compare immersion and other program models, and examine how public opinion and referenda have influenced policy and everyday upbringing. She will touch on language acquisition theories and highlight more recent findings about the wide ranging benefits of multilingualism for people of different ages. Attendees are invited to contribute their own experiences during the discussion. This event is free with registration. Dr. Schmid holds a Ph.D. in Linguistics from Brown University, has worked as a senior academic officer at EF Education in Cambridge, and focuses on how people learn and use languages in real world settings.

    Sweet Petunia and more

Rapscallion Music Hall, 56 Island St, Lawrence · verified Sep 27
    See details

A dynamic folk showcase pairs the close-harmony duo Sweet Petunia with Boston based songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Grace Givertz for an intimate, story centered performance. Sweet Petunia, the project of Mairead Guy and Maddy Simpson, began after the two met at Berklee College of Music in the 21st Century String Band ensemble, where classmates joked they might be related thanks to an uncanny blend of voices. Bonding over a shared love of Simon & Garfunkel and Gillian Welch & Dave Rawlings, they started jamming and soon formed the duo that would earn two Boston Music Awards nominations for Best Folk Act and spots at festivals including In Between Days and Nice, a Fest. Their debut LP, Foggy Mountain Mental Breakdown, arrived on Righteous Babe Records with songs gathered during a time of growing pains, tracing breakups, friendships left behind, necessary change, and self discovery. The title tips its hat to the Flatt & Scruggs classic while the sound honors traditional folk roots and channels energy from a local punk and DIY scene. Grace Givertz, a Florida born, Boston based artist, brings indie folk crafted with memorable melodies and candid storytelling. A multi-instrumentalist who threads folk, Americana, and indie rock, she writes from lived experience with chronic illness, often exploring resilience and vulnerability. Her sophomore release, Midnight Feature, was created exclusively with BIPOC, LGBTQ+, and disabled collaborators, reflecting a clear commitment to inclusion in music. Following her debut Year of the Horse, she has opened for artists such as Lucy Dacus, Cassadee Pope, Ezra Furman, John Paul White of The Civil Wars, and Neyla Pekarek of The Lumineers. Givertz is active with the Black Opry and took part in WXPN’s Black Opry Residency in Philadelphia. Recognition includes two Boston Music Awards nominations, the City of Boston’s Extraordinary Women Award, and Allston Village Main Street’s Artist of the Year. She also shares her craft through songwriting workshops, including sessions with the Harvard Ed Portal.
