A WFF and Balter collaboration brings a fusion dance back to a rooftop garden, this time in pleasant weather after last year’s chilly October outing. Expect plenty of social dancing along with brief showcases from local dance crews. The DJ lineup will be announced. Masks are optional, and complimentary masks will be available upon request. Attendees are asked to uphold a welcoming environment by treating everyone with respect and kindness, staying mindful that dancers come from many scenes with different norms, and checking in with partners rather than assuming dips, lifts, close embrace, or body rolls are okay. When inviting someone to dance, ask which role they prefer to take, whether lead, follow, or switching. It is always fine to decline a dance for any reason, and saying no to one person does not prevent dancing with someone else. Alcohol and other recreational drugs are not permitted at the dance. The effort operates within The Boston Foundation and collaborates with the Mayor’s Office of Arts & Culture through the Boston Creates plan.

Commonwealth Shakespeare Company celebrates its 30th anniversary with A Midsummer Night’s Dream reimagined as a luminous festival world where boundaries loosen and individuality shines. Young lovers slip into a realm of freedom and desire, drawn together and pulled apart by forces just out of their grasp. Puck, played by The Skivvies’ Nick Cearley, leads a cohort of fairies who work the night like undercover DJs of destiny, stirring hearts with a touch of enchantment as the grounds thrum with temptation, transformation, and the energy of love and community. Directed by CSC Founding Artistic Director Steven Maler, this Free Shakespeare on the Common production unfolds at the Parkman Bandstand on Boston Common, presented with support from the City of Boston, Mayor Michelle Wu, Boston Parks and Recreation, and the Mayor’s Office of Arts and Culture. Admission is free. All performances include open captions, with captioning provided by CCTheater from AccessTech, LLC. Select shows feature ASL interpretation, audio description, and a tactile tour. Boston’s original night market returns for its fifth summer, bringing cool evening vibes to The Charles River Speedway’s expansive outdoor dining courtyard and lively indoor spaces. More than 100 small businesses set up shop with art, vinyl, vintage finds, and more. Admission is free and all ages are welcome. Browse with a Notch Brewing beverage in hand, grab a bite from food trucks like @stuffedbypapi, @bonetownburgers, @frios_southboston7, and @tandoorandcurryonwheels, or visit stalls including @dosmanoskitchen, @pizzaprojectboston, @linger.boston with @weitogopopup, and @the.koji.club. Capture the moment in the @bulkypigeon.photo pop-up portrait studio with quick sessions, props, and playful lighting. A vinyl set from @gabe_fm of @littlerecordsme keeps the energy moving. Patty Chen’s Dumpling School presents a hands-on dumpling party in Cambridge, Massachusetts, blending cooking with a lively, social atmosphere. Over 2.5 hours, participants ages 8 and up learn how to roll and fold dough, properly stuff dumplings with different fillings, shape them in a variety of styles, and cook them. It is designed as a party rather than a traditional class, with an emphasis on fun and a relaxed pace that welcomes all skill levels, making it a friendly option for friends, families, and loved ones. Capacity is limited to up to 16 people. For children’s groups, one adult must remain for every five children and will be ticketed. Dumpling ingredients are provided. Presented in partnership with Lovestruck Books and Cafe, this lively night at WBUR CitySpace spotlights Joel Fagliano, lead editor for New York Times Games and creator of the Mini Crossword. Expect wordplay challenges that tap into vocabulary and wit, prizes for participants, and time to ask questions about how these popular games are crafted. After the activities, Fagliano will sign copies of his book, Puzzle Mania!: Wordle, Connections, Spelling Bee, Minis and More!, which will be available for purchase. The collection brings tabletop versions inspired by fan-favorite digital titles and includes exclusive content for newcomers and seasoned solvers alike, featuring twists on Spelling Bee and Connections, a mega crossword with both easy and hard clue sets, curated Mini Crosswords, and additional logic and trivia puzzles. Step away from the constant scroll and turn your attention to what is right here. This session offers a practical look at attention itself, with a focus on the conditions that shape it. Constant notifications, frequent task switching, and information overload can blur clear thinking, pull you out of the moment, and make it harder to finish what matters. Through straightforward frameworks and a guided meditation, the experience aims to help you feel steady concentration directly, not just as an idea but as something you can sense in the moment. Topics include how attention functions and why it drifts, why pushing harder is not a reliable fix for distraction, everyday strategies to steady your focus, and a guided reset to bring your attention back together. No previous meditation experience is required. The emphasis is not on doing it perfectly, it is on seeing the mind clearly enough to collaborate with it.
Blues Union
Enjoy an evening of blues dancing that begins with an intermediate lesson taught by Julie Brown, continues with community social dance games and a Community Studio session, and wraps up with a DJed dance party. Rooted in Black American social dance traditions, blues dancing developed alongside many styles of blues music from the late 19th century to today and centers improvisation, rhythm, personal expression, and community connection. Masks are required, with free masks available if needed. This is a queer-friendly space where everyone can choose the dance role or roles they prefer. A code of conduct and covid policies are in place. Gender-neutral single-stall bathrooms are available. The space is not wheelchair accessible and is up a flight of stairs. Please avoid wearing fragranced products such as cologne or perfume to support community members with allergies. The class topic and the Community Studio activity will be announced. Admission is on a sliding scale of $10 to $25, volunteers and staff attend for free, and nobody is turned away for lack of funds. Payment can be made at the door with cash or Venmo, and presale tickets are planned.
Upstairs at BowFlowState 5Rhythms
FlowState 5Rhythms is a weekly movement class in Somerville at SomArt Space. Guided by a thoughtfully curated wave of music and orienting facilitation, the session journeys through Flowing, Staccato, Chaos, Lyrical, and Stillness, inviting participants to explore the unique qualities and teachings of each rhythm through spontaneous dance. Originated by Gabrielle Roth and embraced worldwide, 5Rhythms is both a creative practice and a perspective on healing, rooted in the idea that moving the body can support transformation. The work channels difficulty into expression, expression into awareness, and awareness into meaningful action, and it often nurtures a supportive community that dances, sweats, changes, and shows up for one another in a safe space. The venue is ADA accessible. A fragrance free environment is requested due to sensitivities and allergies. Participants are encouraged to bring water and wear comfortable clothing that allows easy movement. Open to everyone. Pricing options are available: $25 general admission, $20 reduced according to need, $15 supported, and $30 supporter to help fund reduced and supported spots. Gracie Curran and the High Falutin' Band bring high energy blues and soul rooted in their Boston beginnings. Since forming in 2010, they have built a reputation for dynamic live performances and a deeply soulful sound that has resonated with fans and critics. Their 2013 debut, Proof of Love, featured the Roomful of Blues Horn Section, producer Richard Rosenblatt on harmonica, and keyboardist Bruce Bears, and arrived in tandem with an appearance at the International Blues Challenge in Memphis. Mortified returns with a live, comedic deep dive into teen angst, as adults read the artifacts they created in adolescence for an audience of strangers. Readings pull from diaries, poems, love notes, song lyrics, home movies, and schoolwork, all shared by the original writers and makers. The project began in 2002 when founder David Nadelberg uncovered an unsent teenage love letter, sent an email asking friends to share their youthful writings on stage, and watched the idea spread until replies arrived from strangers near and far. Recognized by Newsweek as a cultural phenomenon and highlighted by This American Life, The Today Show, The Onion AV Club, and Entertainment Weekly, it has grown into a movement that encourages people everywhere to dust off the creations of their younger selves and share them with at least one person. There are countless stories tucked away in those pages, and this show is devoted to helping bring them to light.

Dream Role Players presents a fast-moving, sharply satirical staging of Shakespeare’s Julius Caesar, directed by Hannah Baker. Drawing on the acerbic humor of films like In the Loop and The Death of Stalin, this production reframes the Roman drama as a political comedy where feuding senators maneuver for power, trade barbs, and let ego and ambition steer every decision. Performances take place in Longfellow Park and at the Herter Park Amphitheatre. Admission is free, and bringing a blanket for lawn seating is encouraged. Allergy alert: a prop used in the show contains peanut butter. Weather may affect the schedule, so check the company website for any rain-related updates. For accessibility, the script is available to read, and audience members are welcome to follow along during the performance. Boston pop rock outfit The Hopeless Romantics shares a bill with New England singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist Gatch. The Hopeless Romantics are known for catchy melodies, layered harmonies, and plenty of drive. The band features vocalist and guitarist Reid Kieper with Drew Leuci on lead guitar, Colin McNamara on bass, and Sean Smith on drums. Their original songs mix a gritty DIY indie feel with polished hooks. Frontman Reid Kieper is a two-time Boston Music Awards nominee, has been covered by The Boston Globe and The Boston Herald, appeared in Vanyaland’s Top 20 year-end list, and has played sold-out shows around the Northeast. Gatch brings a curiosity-fueled approach shaped by a coastal upbringing at the mouth of the Long Island Sound and the maritime history of southeastern Connecticut. Influences include storytellers like J. R. R. Tolkien, Robert Louis Stevenson, and Jules Verne, reflecting a love of exploration where the search can be as meaningful as the destination.
Lizard LoungeMan Man
Man Man appears at The Sinclair with Death Valley Girls. Led by Honus Honus, also known as Ryan Kattner, the project has long explored the space between beauty and ugliness, order and chaos. After a break from the band, Kattner returned with Dream Hunting in the Valley of the In-Between, the first Man Man album in more than six years and the group’s Sub Pop debut. The 17 track release was produced with Cyrus Ghahremani, mixed by S. Husky Höskulds, and mastered by Dave Cooley. It includes songs such as “Cloud Nein,” “Future Peg,” “On the Mend,” “Sheela,” and “Animal Attraction,” and features guest vocals from Dre Babinski of Steady Holiday and Rebecca Black. During the hiatus he worked across music supervision and scoring, acted in independent film projects, and developed writing and visual ideas, then pieced the new record together in a sparse Los Angeles space with an old piano. The sessions were reworked to capture a live in the room feel so the music would breathe and move as a band. This event is open to all ages. Local band The American Blues reunites for their first show together since 2013. The set will revisit songs from their EP and introduce new material. Friends, family, and fans have been asking for this return, and the group is excited to get back on stage for an evening centered on nostalgia, live music, and a relaxed hang.
Deck the Hulls - Boston Harbor
A new summer boat parade will bring color and community spirit to Boston Harbor, uniting boaters, families, and waterfront neighborhoods for an evening on the water. The procession assembles inside the Tobin Bridge and continues through the Inner Harbor, passing well known sights such as the Charlestown Navy Yard, the USS Constitution, the North End, and the Seaport District. Spectators can take in the view from waterfront parks, marinas, restaurants, and locations along the Harborwalk across the city. Boats of many kinds are encouraged to participate, including powerboats, sailboats, sportfishing boats, cruisers, trawlers, and yachts. Registered crews receive an official captain’s briefing, parade route details, and eligibility for awards and prizes. The celebration aligns with Boston’s recognition of America’s 250th anniversary and pays tribute to the harbor’s maritime legacy while highlighting the region’s active boating community. Proceeds support Save the Harbor / Save the Bay, advancing efforts to protect and preserve the harbor and waterfront. The presented sponsor is Moore Yacht Sales. Organizers are welcoming interest from corporate sponsors, marine businesses, waterfront organizations, and community partners to help grow this into a lasting annual tradition.

Directed by CSC Founding Artistic Director Steven Maler, this Free Shakespeare on the Common production takes place at the Parkman Bandstand on Boston Common and is presented in partnership with the City of Boston, Mayor Michelle Wu, Boston Parks and Recreation, and the Mayor’s Office of Arts and Culture. All performances feature open captions, with captioning provided by CCTheater from AccessTech, LLC. Select performances also include ASL interpretation and audio description with a tactile tour. Admission is free. Attendees may bring modest food, but umbrellas, tents, and canopies are not permitted. Personal blankets or chairs are welcome, and chairs can be rented on site or in advance for $10. Reserved premium seating in the Friends Section is available with a donation of $100 or more.

Created by Gabrielle Roth and practiced around the world, 5Rhythms is both a philosophy and a dynamic movement practice grounded in the idea that moving the body can support healing. It turns struggle into art, builds awareness, and encourages action, fostering a space where people come together to dance, sweat, grow, and support one another in creativity, connection, and community. The venue is ADA accessible. On arrival, take the elevator to the fourth floor, turn left, and enter through the first door on the right. Zafarán
Zafarán brings a border-spanning sound led by award-winning vocalist Carmen Marsico, with multi-instrumentalist Dan Meyers on woodwinds, drummer and composer Giuseppe Paradiso on percussion, and plucked-string specialist Tev Stevig on guitar and oud. The ensemble explores Mediterranean traditions, drawing on Southern Italian chants, Sephardic love songs, Romani laments, and folk melodies from Turkey and Greece to create music that is rooted in heritage yet distinctly contemporary. Their music blends driving rhythms, expressive improvisation, and commanding vocals to tell stories that connect eras and cultures. Founded in 2020, the group released its debut album, Zafarán, in April 2025. The name derives from Arabic through Old Persian and means yellow or saffron, a prized spice long cultivated around the Mediterranean. In Lucania, Marsico’s home region, the word also refers to the long, sweet red peppers of Senise. This is a new date rescheduled from May.

A seasoned performer and dancer, he knows how to play for a dance floor and will deliver two acoustic sets, with DJ Alli Reese keeping the music flowing during band breaks. Intermediate and advanced dancers can train with workshops led by Alli Reese and Maxwell Thew, while newcomers can get started with a beginner crash course taught by Dani Darasz so they can make the most of the social. Admission options include $35 for the intermediate and advanced workshops with social dancing, $30 for students and seniors for the same package, $20 for the beginner workshop with social dancing, and $20 for dance only. He is a Berklee College of Music graduate, has performed in Greater Boston for nine years, and has been taking stages for more than two decades, a journey that began with a standout rendition of Great Balls of Fire at age nine.

Rhythmic traditions meet as Flamenco trades steps with Tap and West African dance converses with Kathak in an evening length premiere for the fourth annual Feet Keep the Beat Festival. Commissioned by Arts at the Armory, a collective of six percussive dancers and five musicians unveils ROOTS & WINGS: The Next Generation, a showcase that follows how rhythm and movement travel across cultures and through time while staying grounded in their sources. The featured artists deepen the collaboration by sharing the stage with the next generation, performing with their children or inviting students into the work for a celebration of lineage, mentorship, and renewal. The lineup features Kathak artists Anjali Nath and Ariaki Dandawate, West African dance by Joh Sidi Mohamed Camara, Step artist Lekisha Limage, Tap artist Ryan Casey, and Flamenco artist Xianix Barrera, with music by Akili Jamal Haynes on percussion and trumpet, Antonio Tran on flamenco guitar, Pranav Ghatraju on tabla, and percussionists Sory Diabate and Tiemoko Camara, plus special youth guest artists. Tickets are available with general admission seating, priced at $35 in advance and $40 on the day of the show. Thalia Zedek brings a searing voice and plainspoken lyrics that shape complicated experiences into clear, weighty moments. Her album Perfect Vision explores widening rifts between people, turning urgency and resilience into reflective songs set in rich, enveloping arrangements. Sarah Borges builds easy connections through nearly two decades of collaboration and story-filled tunes, from her 2004 debut Silver City to work that speaks to longtime followers and newcomers alike. Field Day came together in a basement when its members were already well into middle age. Journalist-turned-songwriter Joan Anderman teamed up with former Boston Globe colleague Dan Zedek, whose ideas took form during train rides, and original drummer John Kehe opened his gear-packed space for weekend sessions. With bassist Larla O’Halloran and drummer Chuck Hargreaves, the band has become a spirited presence on the Boston club scene, mixing scrappy hooks with dreamy harmonies and undeniable drive. Step into a vibrant outdoor showcase of mature bonsai arranged outside the Asian-inspired Birds World building at Franklin Park Zoo. Explore Ikebana as well, the Japanese art of storytelling through floral arrangements, with vivid displays presented by Boston Ikebana. Members must be logged into their account to redeem these benefits, which are not valid for Club events or for day-of registration. Spectator tickets are available only on the day of the event at the front gate and do not sell out. Payment is accepted by cash, credit or debit cards, and Apple Pay. Admission is $15 for adults, $10 for children ages 6 to 12, $10 for students, and $10 for seniors. Children under 6 are admitted free, and Museum Members receive free spectator admission.

A fast, flat 5K unfolds in downtown Cambridge, Massachusetts, with a scenic stretch along Massachusetts Avenue that suits both all-out efforts and relaxed autumn strides. Cross the line and head straight into a lively post-race celebration. Registration for Cambridge Classic events tends to fill quickly, and prices rise in steps as race weekend approaches. Entry begins at $40, then increases to $42.50 and $45, with a $50 option close to race weekend if space remains, so earlier registration secures the best rate. Every participant receives a gender-specific short sleeve technical shirt. Groups can register as Social Teams made up of friends and family or as Company Teams made up of coworkers. Teams that reach at least 20 members qualify for VIP treatment that includes a reserved tent and table in the post-race area, cold beer ready at the finish, and a prime spot for enjoying the music. The largest Social Team and the largest Company Team earn special recognition, including a wildly oversized trophy.
