Learn Basic Block Printing

Explore the fundamentals of block printing, also known as linocutting or stamp making, with guidance from Sean, a College for Creative Studies graduate and member of the Sunshine & Sage team. Starting with a butterfly design, you will transfer artwork to a block, carve your own reusable stamp, apply ink, and make prints by hand without a press. The class emphasizes safe carving practices and explains how removing material works, more like peeling a cucumber than digging into the ground. Participants receive instruction and a take-home kit that includes the class pattern, a cutter, extra rubber blocks, and print paper to continue practicing. You will leave with your own carved block and printed copies of your design. Because sharp tools are used, an additional waiver will be signed at the beginning of class.

Woodland Pyrography

Explore pyrography in a hands-on workshop focused on crafting a woodland themed keepsake from natural hardwood discs. Choose from a selection of flora and fauna designs, such as leaves, mushrooms, birds, and other forest creatures, then bring your image to life with professional woodburning tools. Step-by-step instruction covers the essentials, including safe tool handling, temperature settings, line work, shading, and methods for transferring artwork. As you practice, you will build confidence and create a piece that reflects your style. When the burning is complete, turn your disc into a wearable pendant or necklace, a practical keychain, a zipper pull or bag charm, or a small decorative ornament. Finish your piece with either a natural treatment that showcases the grain or a glossy resin coat for added protection and shine. All tools and supplies are provided, and the session is designed with beginners in mind. Leave with a completed woodland-inspired keepsake and the know-how to continue exploring pyrography at home.

Tylee Shay visits 2 Dandelions Bookshop for a signing of Life on the Lake, a book that celebrates the easy rhythm of summer by freshwater shores. A photographer and lifelong resident of Michigan, she brings together creative essays, simple recipes, practical guides, and reflective prompts to capture what a season at the lake feels like. The pages evoke long stretches of sand, charming beach towns, old fashioned ice cream spots, and market-fresh blueberries and tomatoes. They recall days by the water that lead to bonfires, daytime swims, and evenings spent watching the sun sink over the waves. The collection invites readers to slow down and savor the season with ideas for bucket lists, time offline, beachcombing, and more.

Crystals In Depth at Vibology

Explore how crystal structures can support intention in an ongoing workshop that studies their energetic patterns and how they relate to dreams, desires, and personal goals. Each session concentrates on a single crystal system, then participants work together to build a grid designed to amplify a chosen aim. The influence of color is part of the experience, with attention to how different hues shape energetic effects. Topics include systems such as hexagonal, monoclinic, triclinic, orthorhombic, tetragonal, cubic, and trigonal, along with a look at amorphous stones that arise from organic elements. A guided meditation with a crystal invites messages and deepens connection so the stone can be aligned with intention. Crystals and a grid are provided. The cost is $40 per person. Important details: a minimum of four attendees is required and those registered will be notified and refunded if the minimum is not met. Purchases are non-refundable unless Vibology cancels, in which case a full refund is issued. If weather affects a session, it will be rescheduled and registrations will transfer to the new date. Missed attendance cannot be refunded or transferred. Classes are held downstairs and require the use of stairs.

Woodland Pyrography: Burned Wood Pendants & Keepsakes

Explore pyrography in a hands-on workshop focused on crafting a woodland themed keepsake from natural hardwood discs. Choose from forest inspired motifs such as leaves, mushrooms, birds, and other wildlife, then use professional woodburning tools to bring your design to life. Step-by-step guidance covers safe tool handling, temperature control, clean line work, shading, and methods for transferring artwork. As you work, you will gain confidence with the tools while creating a piece that reflects your style. After burning your design, turn the disc into a finished item such as a pendant or necklace, a keychain, a zipper pull or bag charm, or a small ornament. Complete your project with either a natural finish that highlights the grain or a glossy resin coat for added durability and shine. All tools and materials are provided, no prior experience is required, and the session is designed with beginners in mind. You will leave with a completed woodland themed keepsake and practical skills to continue exploring pyrography at home.

Over approximately three hours, you will pick up the core techniques to start and build a warm, fuzzy blanket, and if you need to leave early, you can receive instructions to finish later. The class fee is $40 and covers instruction only, as materials are not included. Please bring Bernat Blanket Extra Thick yarn in 72-yard skeins. Two skeins is the minimum, though purchasing four to five is recommended so you have enough, and any unused skeins can be returned after class. Make sure you select the exact Extra Thick version and the correct length. If you choose a thinner yarn, plan to bring additional skeins. This yarn can be found at major craft stores such as Michaels and Hobby Lobby, and store staff can help confirm you have the right type. A lighter color is suggested for beginners because it makes counting and tracking stitches easier. Participants must be at least 12 years old. Ages 12 to 15 must attend with a registered adult, and everyone present must be registered. Outside food and drinks are not allowed, and a cafe counter is available with plenty of options. Book Talk with Diane Les Becquets

Diane Les Becquets visits 2 Dandelions for an author talk about the inspirations behind her newest novel, Where the Water Meets the Sky, set across Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. The conversation highlights themes of resilience, nature, and community reflected in the book. The story follows Abby, who returns to the Garden Peninsula a decade after a winter fire destroyed a farmhouse. While assisting her uncle with an environmental study of trees, she reconnects with her best friend Brew and meets Seda, who is escaping an abusive former partner. Abby offers refuge in an abandoned cabin, confronts unreturned feelings, and searches for answers about that night, all against the backdrop of lakes, woods, farms, and fisheries that shaped her childhood during the summer of 1996. Readers of Tell Me Everything and Heartwood, and those who appreciate the nature-rich writing of Helen Macdonald and Richard Powers, will recognize the book’s deep connection between self and landscape. Les Becquets is also the author of Breaking Wild and The Last Woman in the Forest, and she was a recent guest on Michigan Public Radio. Breaking Wild became a national bestseller, received starred reviews from Publishers Weekly, Kirkus Reviews, and Booklist, was featured on NPR’s Morning Edition, won the Colorado Book Award in Fiction and the New Hampshire Outstanding Work of Fiction, and was shortlisted for the Reading the West Book Award in Fiction.
