24th Annual Day of Caring

Now in its 24th year, Livingston County United Way’s Day of Caring is the county’s largest single day community service effort. Volunteers from across Livingston County come together to lend a hand to neighbors, strengthen community ties, and make a lasting difference. Typical projects include light repair work, cleanup, and yard care for homeowners who may not be able to complete these tasks on their own. In addition to volunteer sign ups, the event welcomes project site suggestions from local residents, seniors, schools, individuals with disabilities, and nonprofit agencies. Recommendations can be submitted on behalf of a friend or neighbor in need. Sponsorship opportunities are available.

Children's Summer Series

Live theatre takes the stage at the AMP as the Brighton Arts & Culture Commission’s Children’s Summer Series presents Spinning Dot Theatre in a family friendly performance. Known for imaginative storytelling, vibrant characters, and interactive moments, Spinning Dot Theatre creates an engaging experience that captivates children and entertains audiences of all ages. The event unfolds outdoors at the AMP in Millpond Park in Downtown Brighton, offering an inviting setting for creativity and shared laughter. Admission is free. Therapy Dogs Rock

Children are welcome at Pinckney Public Library on Wednesdays for a relaxed, drop-in reading time with therapy dogs. Young readers can share a book with Josephine and Ruby, who are certified through Alliance of Therapy Dogs, and meet Millie, who is currently in training. It is a friendly way to build confidence and practice reading throughout the summer.

Fiber Arts Lounge

A casual gathering for fiber artists offers time to work alongside others and connect over shared craft. Attendees are encouraged to bring their latest project and enjoy conversation for an hour or two. The group meets by the fireplace, as space allows. Registration is not required.

Rock the Block

Rock the Block brings a free evening of live music to downtown Howell, with food trucks, beer, and mocktails. The event takes place at the North State Street Lot.

Littles On the Lawn

This outdoor play group on the lawn offers toys and tunnels for toddlers. It is designed for children ages 0 to 3 and their grownups. Registration is not required, and drop in participation is welcome. In case of inclement weather, the play group moves indoors.

Presented by Bob Maxey Ford of Fowlerville, the field includes Avenger driven by Jim Koehler, Axe driven by Joe Foley, Block Head driven by Daron Basl, Brutus driven by Jon Koehler, Dirt Crew driven by David Olfert, Frostbite driven by Kylie Kent, The Haymaker driven by Charles Pauken III, Lil’ Miss Madness driven by Athena Kozel, Mayhem driven by Chris Koehler, Frontier Truck Parts Sinistar driven by Elliott Miller, Terminal Velocity driven by Jon Zimmer Jr., the 2025 Fowlerville champion, and Uproar driven by Jon Zimmer Sr., with more trucks expected. Enhance the outing with the Monster Truck Ride Experience for a seat in a real 12 foot tall truck; passes are sold separately and must be purchased with general admission either beforehand or on site while supplies last. A free Track Party for valid ticket holders takes place before the show, offering time to meet the drivers and get an up close look at the trucks, followed by a pre show and then the main racing program.

Part of Concerts at the Old Courthouse, this free outdoor show brings live music to the lawn of the historic Old Howell Courthouse with support from the Livingston Arts Council. Sanctuary offers a set steeped in rock and rhythm and blues, drawing on more than a dozen years of performances. The courthouse amphitheater has a 26 year tradition of community concerts, showcasing rock, country, and tribute acts in an open air setting. Attendees often bring lawn chairs and enjoy the music with friends and family in downtown Howell.

Kensington Valley Outlets Back to School Event

Kick off the school year at Kensington Valley Outlets with a family-friendly event in the Center Courtyard by the mini-golf course. Run For His Glory 5K Run/Walk

Churches and neighbors from across Livingston County come together for the first time at a community 5K run and walk focused on connection, fitness, and faith. This friendly gathering suits every pace, whether you are aiming to race, prefer an easy jog, or want to enjoy a relaxed walk with others. The event aims to be the county’s largest and friendliest 5K, with each step taken helping neighbors.

Canines for Change presents the Drives for Change Golf Outing at Hawk Meadows Golf Course, bringing golfers together to support the training and placement of service and facility dogs that create lasting benefits in communities. Teams of four can register for $500. Sponsorships are available for businesses and community supporters. Silver sponsorship at $250 includes recognition at one of the 18 holes. Gold sponsorship at $500 includes a hole sponsorship and placement on the event sponsorship banner. Platinum sponsorship at $1,000 includes all Gold benefits plus a social media spotlight. Soar through the sky with Community Ziplining at Howell Nature Center. The zip line stretches 500 feet across and is about 20 feet high over a glacially formed pond. There are two available windows, 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM and 12:00 PM to 1:30 PM, and participants can arrive anytime during the event, with the last walk-in accepted at 1:30 PM. The cost includes 2 rides down the zip line. Closed-toed shoes are required (no crocs), and you’ll want comfortable clothing suitable for wearing a harness. Weight requirement is 50 to 250 lbs, and the event is for ages 7 and up.

At Brighton Airport (45G), this twentieth annual fly-in and cruise-in brings together aircraft arrivals and classic or show cars. Pilots who arrive by air receive a complimentary meal. Owners of classic or show vehicles are welcome to display their rides, and there is no entry fee.

Vet Fest returns as a VETLIFE-led celebration created for veterans, active duty service members, and their immediate families. Taking place at Lake Trust Stadium, it brings the military community together for camaraderie, support, and family fun in a welcoming setting. Expect live music and entertainment, family-friendly activities, food and refreshments, giveaways and prizes, plus direct access to veteran-focused resources and support organizations. Sky Tykes

Introduce your little adventurer to a mini ropes course designed just for them. Children are securely harnessed and monitored by a Nature Center staff member as they explore the course and test their limits. An adult can walk alongside or watch from the sidelines. Closed toed and closed heeled shoes are required, and participants must be under 48 inches tall. Check in at the Welcome Center. Admission is $8.00 per child. A Sky Tykes punch card is available for $48.00, covering six visits with the seventh visit free.

Kids ages 6-12 read aloud to Remington the dog, sharing a favorite short story or a few chapters from a book. Reading times are allotted on a first come, first served basis.

Pet Partners

Spend time at the library reading stories to a therapy dog with certification. Participants of all ages are welcome when accompanied by a caregiver. Same day signups are available for 10 minute reading sessions in the garden.

Kids Knit & Crochet

Children are invited to bring their knitting or crochet projects, connect with others, and learn in a welcoming atmosphere. Miss Sara will be on hand to guide participants of all ages and experience levels as they explore their skills. This relaxed, drop-in session makes it easy to sample knitting and crocheting at your own pace, and some supplies will be available so beginners can start right away.

Baby Time

A cozy story time tailored for babies and toddlers from birth to age three, accompanied by their caregivers. Children can enjoy simple songs, playful rhymes, and colorful books, with toys available for gentle exploration. Build dinosaur skeletons using foam bones in small, medium, and large sizes in a drop-in format. This hands-on activity is for ages 5-12 with a caregiver. Kids can play with the bones and experiment with different skeleton shapes at their own pace.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day

Spider-Man: Brand New Day follows Peter Parker as he works to keep New York City safe, even as mounting pressure triggers an unexpected physical change that puts him in danger. Guided Meditation Journey

Experience a calming guided meditation with drumming, led by Marsha. This monthly session focuses on finding insight and receiving messages from your higher self, spirit guides, and angels. The cost is $10 per person, and registration is available online, in store, or by calling 517-894-5537. A minimum of four participants is required for the class to run. If the minimum is not met, registrants will be notified and refunded. All purchases are non-refundable unless Vibology cancels the class, in which case a full refund will be issued. Missed attendance cannot be refunded or transferred. If weather affects a session, it will be rescheduled and registrations will move to the new date. Yin Yoga + Crystal Singing Bowls

Settle into a soothing Yin Yoga practice that invites you to linger in poses and gently open the connective tissues of the hips, pelvis, lower spine, and shoulders. Unlike more muscular, Yang based classes, this experience focuses on softness and stillness, with postures held for several minutes to relax the body and quiet the mind. The slower approach complements active styles of yoga and can help build comfort for seated meditation. Live crystal singing bowls add a restorative sound healing element, offering a calm point of focus and resonant, chakra attuned tones. Food Truck Tuesdays brings a rotating lineup of local food trucks to the center of Downtown Howell, with vendors serving up lunchtime favorites outside the Historic Livingston County Courthouse. Turn your midday break into an outing by sampling something new, browsing nearby boutiques, picking up a sweet treat at a café, and enjoying the public art and historic charm all around. Eat, sip, shop, and soak up the best of Downtown Howell, one Tuesday at a time.

New Mom Group

Designed for those who have welcomed a baby within the past six months, this supportive gathering offers a comfortable space at Whole Mama Michigan in Brighton to connect with other new mothers. Expect an easygoing environment where feeding, changing, soothing, and all the emotions that come with early parenthood are welcome. Conversation often explores sleep, feeding, postpartum recovery, relationships, identity shifts, returning to work, questions about what is typical, and any topics participants want to bring forward. Sessions are facilitated by a rotating team of postpartum support professionals. Participation can be part of a six week series or on a drop in basis, offering flexibility while fostering community.

Full & New Moon Circles

Vibology offers recurring Moon Circles aligned with the new and full moon, with each gathering featuring something a little different. Participants learn a ritual suited to the phase and receive a take-home bag that includes an incense stick, written ritual instructions, and often extra information or small treats. The circle concludes with a single card drawn for each attendee. Admission is free, and donations are welcome.

Calm & Focus Group Class

Held at Ed Bock Feeds & Stuff, this beginner-friendly group class helps dogs build everyday manners, practice leash skills, and stay engaged even when distractions are present. It is designed for puppies, adolescent dogs, and any dog that could use guidance making better choices in daily life. The goal is to shift chaotic behavior into calm and strengthen connection. Registration includes a pre-class video, a printed progress tracker, and a recap after the session. Space is limited. Instruction is provided by Rebecca Pasko, a certified professional dog trainer and USMC veteran.

Marking its 66th year, the Howell Melon Festival honors the community’s agricultural heritage with highlights that include the Howell Melon Run, live entertainment, and the signature Howell Melon Ice Cream. The Festival Tent officially opens with a free pub trivia session followed by live music from The Dimes. Festival brews and wine will be available for purchase, and Getty Up BBQ will serve food.

Big Feelings - Group Reactivity Dog Training Class

This small-group, 60-minute workshop at Ed Bock Feeds & Stuff is designed for dogs who bark, lunge, freeze, or overreact while on leash. The goal is to help sensitive or easily overwhelmed dogs feel calmer and more connected with their handlers. Teams build calm focus in everyday settings through structured distance exercises, refined leash handling, and increased handler awareness. It is best suited for dogs 6 months and older with reactive tendencies or overexcitement. Enrollment is limited to four dogs to maintain a controlled and supportive environment. Participants receive a pre-class video, a printed tracking sheet, and a post-class recap to support continued practice. Instruction is led by Rebecca Pasko, a certified trainer and USMC veteran.

Anne of Green Gables Auditions

Community Theatre of Howell invites performers ages 7 and up to audition for Anne of Green Gables, The Musical. Inspired by L. M. Montgomery’s beloved story, this production follows the imaginative orphan Anne Shirley as she arrives at the Cuthbert home and, through determination and charm, finds belonging while brightening the lives of those around her. Auditions include a character reading, a prepared song excerpt provided in the audition materials, and a dance combination. Readings and music are available in the materials, and you are encouraged to prepare the reading for the role that interests you most, with no memorization required. The audition dance can be learned at an optional workshop or from the posted video. An optional workshop is strongly recommended and offers dance instruction, song coaching, and additional practice time. Please complete the audition form in advance and attach a small photo. Only one audition slot is needed, and arriving a little early helps with check in. Dance shoes or socks are recommended, barefoot is allowed, and street shoes are not permitted on the studio floor. Callbacks may be held by invitation if needed, and receiving or not receiving a callback does not determine casting. Everyone ages 7 and above is welcome to audition, no prior theatre experience is required, and Community Theatre of Howell membership will be required only for those who are cast. This production is presented by arrangement with Concord Theatricals, with book by Donald Harron and music by Norman Campbell, adapted from the novel by L. M. Montgomery.

A free night of live music comes to Downtown Brighton with Detroit vocalist Theo Spight, known to many as Theo Gridiron Spight. Shaped by church traditions and the Motor City’s musical heritage, he delivers a powerful blend of blues, soul, R&B, jazz, and rock with heartfelt authenticity. Offstage he has spent more than twenty years with one of the Big Three automakers, and that work ethic drives his performances. Sound Bath Healing Meditation

Settle into a restorative sound bath meditation at Vibology. Michelle from @soleful77 guides participants into a reflective state to surrender and set an intention, then creates a supportive space while playing 432 Hz tuned crystal chakra bowls, gong, Himalayan bowls, a buffalo drum, and other resonant frequencies. The session explores how varied sound vibrations can benefit both the emotional and physical body. Bring water, a yoga mat, a pillow, a blanket, and any other cozy comforts to make your spot comfortable for receiving the sound; chairs are available for seated participation. The 49th Annual Howell Melon Run brings the whole community to downtown Howell for a fun, family-friendly race day. The event welcomes runners, walkers, and participants racing in wheelchairs or other assistive devices. Expect multiple activities, including a Melon Roll, a One in a Melon Mile, the Mascot Dash, and the main Howell Melon Run 5k. The race is chip-timed by the Michigan Running Foundation, and results with chip time and placement information are texted to participants. Step into a magical world with Whimsical Garden Take 2, a 4-day summer art camp (Monday through Thursday) featuring enchanted garden projects with brand-new ideas. They’ll also use acrylic paint and mixed media to build up color, texture, and natural details like stones, wood, and fun embellishments. Running Lab teams up with 2 Dandelions to welcome Lance Woods and Joe Robinson of We Run 313 for a conversation about their new book that shares the story of their Detroit-based run club. After the talk, the group will head out for a community run and walk around the Millpond. Back at the patio, attendees can get books signed and enjoy snacks and water provided by Running Lab. We Run 313 is a community rooted in Detroit that creates space for Black runners, builds pride and connection across neighborhoods, and supports physical and mental well-being. Lance Woods and Joe Robinson co-founded the club in 2019. Robinson works in music management at APX Management, and Woods focuses on community building at Renaissance of Hope. Brighton Street Art Fair

The third annual Brighton Street Art Fair brings a vibrant showcase of creativity to downtown Brighton, produced by The Guild of Artists & Artisans in partnership with the Greater Brighton Area Chamber of Commerce. Admission is free for all. Over three days, visitors can explore work from more than 100 artists selected by jury, enjoy live music, take part in family-friendly art activities, and easily access nearby shops, restaurants, and convenient downtown parking. Artists from across Michigan and the Midwest will present original pieces in a wide range of media, including jewelry, ceramics, painting, glass, photography, fiber, mixed media, and more. A competitive jury process ensures a high-caliber experience for collectors and casual browsers alike. This year’s featured artwork is by Michelle Detering of Lansing, recognized for vivid watercolor scenes inspired by nature and wildlife. She returns after exhibiting in 2025 and will share new originals during the event. Returning artists include Leslie Krist with ceramics from Rogers City, Joseph Cyberski with jewelry from Dexter, and Paul Fletcher with painting and sculpture from Westlake, Ohio, each bringing fresh work. Making their Brighton debuts are Brian Westrick with ceramics from Dowagiac, Cheryl Baker with digital art from Davisburg, and the glass team of Chad Ackley and Derek Smiertka from Ortonville. The Brighton Art Guild will host complimentary hands-on projects for children and families throughout the fair. Music will fill the Brighton Mill Pond bandshell, including a performance by Kari Holmes as part of the Live at Millpond Park concert series presented by the City of Brighton DDA and Pulte Homes. A Kids Art Fair presented by the Greater Brighton Area Chamber of Commerce and sponsored by MSU Federal Credit Union will give young creators a chance to display and sell their own artwork. The downtown setting makes it easy to pair art browsing with dining and shopping, and adults can enjoy beverages purchased from participating establishments within Brighton’s Social District while exploring. HearseFest 2026 – 25th Anniversary!

The twenty-fifth anniversary edition returns to the Fowlerville Family Fair and Fowlerville Agricultural Society with spooky activities, a costume contest, a pine box derby inspired by pinewood racers, and vendors both indoors and outdoors. Spectator admission is $2. Participating hearse drivers and passengers are admitted at no cost, and children 16 and under are free. Vendor registration forms will be posted as they are finished, with regular updates to follow. Lodging options include camping at the fairgrounds or a hotel stay, with a room block at Hampton Inn & Suites under the group name HerseFest and group code 90O. Erik Paulson Gi Seminar

This gi-focused seminar features Erik Paulson and emphasizes practical grappling, offering concepts and techniques that can be applied right away. Paulson created Combat Submission Wrestling, became the first American to win a Shooto world title, and holds a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu coral belt. With more than four decades in the sport, he has coached world champions, UFC athletes, ADCC competitors, and members of the military and law enforcement. The training is suitable for practitioners of gi, no-gi, and MMA, as well as anyone aiming to improve overall grappling. All experience levels are welcome.

To complete the scene, craft a rustic broom from natural materials. Keep it simple and classic, or decorate it with dried herbs, flowers, and woodland accents. Wet Felted Slippers Workshop

This hands-on workshop focuses on crafting custom fit merino wool slippers through wet felting. Fine wool fibers are worked into a sturdy, seamless pair shaped to your feet, with many color options available. Participants learn to draft a resist template for sizing, build up layers for structure, felt the fibers using soap and water with plenty of agitation, then form and finish the slippers for a clean, polished result. The class welcomes beginners, and no prior experience is required. Expect an active process that involves rolling, rubbing, standing at times, and getting a bit wet.
