Words Like Honey brings a community poetry open mic to Lolobee’s Lounge, meeting on the second Tuesday each month and hosted by The Asterix*. Water temperatures typically range from the mid to high 60s early in the season to the low 80s later in the summer. Team ATP is a Saginaw area multisport club dedicated to promoting, training, educating, and competing in running, cycling, swimming, and triathlon.

Casey Lane, a guitar and violin duo featuring singer songwriter KC and classically trained violinist Elaine, shares an acoustic mix of original material and pop folk that reaches from the 1960s to today. The pair began performing together soon after they met, and they recently completed their debut recording at Hit City Studios in Indianapolis. As part of the Lunchtime Concert Series, this performance takes place at the Amphitheater at Whiting Forest of Dow Gardens. Any dental care beyond the KOHA screening will be billed to participating insurance or the individual, and a fluoride option is available with participating insurance. Guided by a CNC naturalist, this relaxing three-mile paddle follows the Chippewa River from CNC’s launch on Homestead Road to the Tridge in downtown Midland. Each participant receives a kayak, paddle, and life jacket, and the group will meet at the Visitor Center before heading out. The program is open to ages 9 and older, with minors accompanied by an adult. The cost is $35, and CNC members receive a 20 percent discount. If weather or river conditions are unsuitable, CNC staff may cancel the trip and provide refunds.

Hill's Tavern hosts a stop on The Mr. Z Tour, marking the release of Mr. Z, the eagerly awaited album from The ZYG 808. The show blends alternative hip hop, boom bap, soul, and experimental grooves, and features Mwalim DaPhunkee Professor.

A short story time at the farm with volunteer Aimee is followed by a look at how 50 different varieties of healthy produce are grown and donated to the community.

Kids can challenge themselves by climbing into the trees with a moving rope system. Participants use their legs, core, and arms to pull themselves upward, with helmets, child-size harnesses, and instruction provided by a trained specialist. Safety procedures must be followed by all participants and staff. The cost is $22 per child. Space is extremely limited and reservations are required. This activity is for ages 8 to 14 at the time of participation. Minors must be accompanied by an adult, with no charge for one chaperone. A parent or legal guardian must sign a waiver. This outdoor event is subject to cancellation.

Frankenmuth’s Funtown Chowdown Food Truck Festival is back at Frankenmuth River Place Shops, featuring themed fun and a big lineup of food trucks. The August 13 Color Splash Bash includes special activities and entertainment, live music, craft beer and non-alcoholic beverage sales, and family-friendly extras. Plan to spend the afternoon and evening sampling a wide range of cuisines and desserts.

The airport’s inaugural powered paraglider fly-in welcomes pilots, future pilots, spectators, volunteers, and both aviation and food vendors to Jack Barstow Airport in Midland, Michigan. Admission is free for everyone. The weekend centers on PPG flying and community, with dry camping available for pilots and flight crew, a pancake breakfast, a barbecue, vendor displays, and plenty of opportunities to connect while supporting and growing the sport. Attendees are asked to pre-register and complete a waiver to help organizers plan for pilot parking, camping, volunteers, food service, safety, and other logistics. Vendor participation requires advance approval, and submitting an application does not guarantee a booth. Approved vendors will receive setup guidance, parking and arrival details, and information about any applicable fees. The event has been rescheduled due to forecast severe weather during the original dates, with plans to hold it under conditions better suited for safe flying. Wing Thing is a free, first-ever powered paragliding (PPG) fly-in taking place at Jack Barstow Airport. Pilots and spectators can enjoy powered paraglider flights along with dry camping. There will also be a pancake breakfast, BBQ, vendor displays, and time for the powered paragliding community to connect and support the sport.

Drydock Beer Garden spotlights Bay City Professional Fire Fighters Local 116 as the nonprofit beneficiary. Drop in for MidLab do-it-yourself hours, a self-led makerspace session where participants ages 12 and up can create and explore independently. No staff will be present, so after registering you’ll use the daily door code from the Reference desk on the main floor of the library. Equipment is available on a first-come, first-served basis, and you’re expected to clean up before leaving. MidLab DIY equipment includes sewing machines, Cricuts, a small heat press, computers with design tools, button makers, try-it kits, and more.

Experience an Artist Chat in the Rowley Gallery at Studio 23 featuring fiber artist Joanne Grabinski and her talk, Demystifying My Artistic Process. The program highlights how artist members create, what inspires them, and how they share their craft. Grabinski will offer a concise overview of her approach while demonstrating on a work in progress so guests can see the equipment, tools, materials, and steps she uses. She will also present completed pieces and answer questions, with casual conversation continuing afterward. Attendance is free and open to the public, and no registration is required. Joanne Grabinski is an improvisational fiber artist who uses the materials, tools, equipment, and techniques of needlepoint to create one-of-a-kind nonrepresentational abstract artworks. Color and geometric shapes are central to her designs, which often evolve as she stitches. Her work has appeared in juried and invited exhibitions at Studio 23, Creative 360, Artworks, 515 Gallery, Art Reach, the University Art Gallery at CMU, the Park Library at CMU, Oliver Art Center, and Glen Arbor Arts Center. Her five-piece A Wheel & 4 Triads is part of Interlochen Center for the Arts' permanent collection and hangs in the Mallory Towsley Center for Arts Leadership. After more than 30 years in higher education, she chose to pursue new paths as an artist and creative writer.

His career spans TV hosting, including two years at the helm of Friday Night Videos, guest roles on network sitcoms and co creating and producing The Henry Cho Show on GAC. His one hour Comedy Central special What’s That Clickin Noise? also streamed on Netflix, and his comedy is heard daily on Sirius, XM, Blue Collar Radio and Pandora. On film he has shared the screen in McHale’s Navy, Say It Isn’t So and Material Girls. He has performed for the Radio and Television Correspondents’ Dinner and worked with Vince Gill, Amy Grant, Willie Nelson, Carrie Underwood and Reba. Additional credits include the faith based feature Saving Faith, a nomination for Best Supporting Actor from the International Christian Film Festival and work on projects like The Farmer and the Belle, Double Occupancy and Cheyenne, as well as development with Triple Horse Studios. The show features a versatile performer known for headlining in Vegas and touring with Michael W. Smith.
