The outing encourages movement in the fresh air and offers a chance to learn about rucking as a low impact way to build strength and endurance. Distances typically range from about 1.5 to 3 miles, starting shorter and building over time. Comfortable shoes and water are recommended, since some routes may be uneven. Weighted backpacks or vests are optional, and walking without one or running at a quicker pace are both supported. Restrooms may be available at most locations, but availability is not guaranteed. Participation is free for experienced dancers and newcomers, and those who prefer to watch can simply enjoy the atmosphere.
Bird Banding
Observe resident and migratory birds up close as they are caught in mist nets and fitted with bands for research. Bird bander Belinda Kisting and CNC staff will be at the Homestead Farm conducting banding, marking, and sampling under a state and federally authorized Bird Banding Permit issued by the U.S. Geological Survey Bird Banding Lab, with all handling supervised by the permit holders. Banding will not take place in rainy or windy conditions. If the weather is uncertain, contact the front office on the day of banding and watch social media for updates. This free program welcomes ages 5 and older, and anyone under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Funding for this bird banding effort is provided by Andy and Donna Rapp.

Each 60-minute class explores diaphragmatic breathing to regulate core pressure, builds abdominal strength, eases unnecessary tension in the core and pelvic floor, and introduces strategies to soothe the nervous system. Participants also learn about functional pelvic floor health and hip mobility that supports pelvic floor function. The practice blends yoga with functional mobility, calming Body by Breath techniques, self-myofascial massage using the YTU Coregeous ball and other therapy balls, and breath-integrated core work inspired by Forrest Yoga and Yoga Tune Up. The curriculum progresses from breath mechanics and core alignment to pelvic awareness and mobility with guest pelvic floor therapist Sierra Miller, OTRL, then continues with core-strength fundamentals, hip mobility for pelvic floor support, focused work for the obliques and lateral movement, a session on the hip hinge and foot connection, rotational core training, and a concluding review with a bonus topic, with a planned break partway through the series. This series is open to all levels and can be especially supportive for those experiencing hip or back discomfort, rebuilding strength in these areas including postpartum, or addressing pelvic floor concerns. The instructor is not a medical provider, so participants should consult their healthcare team before beginning or changing a yoga practice. Drop-in attendance is available with a prerequisite of either having completed this series before or practicing a designated preparatory video; attending the full sequence is encouraged but not required. It is open to ages 10 and up, and participants ages 10 to 16 must attend with an adult. The fee is $5 for each participant, and space tends to fill quickly.

A drive-through food giveaway offers boxed groceries with a simple, contact-friendly process and clear pickup rules. Bring a photo ID. There is a limit of two food boxes per vehicle, unless additional recipients are physically present with matching identification. If collecting for more than one household from the same vehicle, each household must either be present or provide written permission along with identification. If someone is picking up for you because you are working or homebound, prepare a separate permission note for each giveaway that authorizes the named person to collect a food box for your household from The Salvation Army. Include your full name and the full name of the person picking up, the number of people in your household and their ages, and make sure the note is dated and signed. The person picking up should carry a copy of your photo ID, which can be a photocopy or a clear photo on a phone. The authorization applies only to this event. On arrival, follow the posted signs to text the number provided, then use the link you receive to complete the sign-in form. After submitting, a confirmation screen will appear. Take a screenshot and show it to staff in the parking lot, and keep it handy on your phone. If you do not use a smartphone or prefer assistance, staff can complete check-in for you on a tablet. Sign in one time only, and make sure your confirmation reflects the correct event. Walk-up participants are accommodated. To help loading move quickly, clear space in your trunk or cargo area and have the trunk open or your doors unlocked. Do not block driveways, and be prepared to move if emergency vehicles need access. Patience and cooperation help everyone receive food safely and efficiently.

If you are familiar with her Yoga Remix or Forrest Yoga offerings, you will recognize the feel, and no prior experience is required. Participants are asked to register in advance and complete the required Team ATP and Saginaw Parks waivers through the registration page. Pricing is available as a $40 season pass or a $5 drop in. Bring a wetsuit, goggles, a bright or neon swim cap, and a towel. Personal swim buoys are optional but encouraged, and XTerra goggles and swim buoys are available for purchase for $20 each. Water temperatures typically range from the mid to high 60s early in the season to the low 80s later in the summer. Team ATP is a Saginaw area multisport club dedicated to promoting, training, educating, and competing in running, cycling, swimming, and triathlon.

Prepare for the new school year at the Back to School Health Clinic, a family friendly opportunity to take care of essential health needs. Services include recommended vaccines for all ages, lead capillary screening for children 1 to 6, physicals for children 1 to 6, and a Kindergarten Oral Health Assessment offered on the Great Lakes Bay Health Centers Mobile Dental Bus. Any dental care beyond the KOHA screening will be billed to participating insurance or the individual, and a fluoride option is available with participating insurance. Car seat safety checks are also available, along with additional resources. Most services are provided without out of pocket charges except where indicated. The clinic is hosted in the Midland County Services Building within the Health Department on the second floor.

If the King of Clubs is not revealed, the jackpot rolls to the next week. After each drawing all tickets are discarded, so new tickets must be purchased each week before the drawing to be eligible. Free school supplies are available, and admission is free. Bring a blanket or chairs if you plan to watch the movie. Guided by a CNC naturalist, this relaxing three-mile paddle follows the Chippewa River from CNC’s launch on Homestead Road to the Tridge in downtown Midland. Each participant receives a kayak, paddle, and life jacket, and the group will meet at the Visitor Center before heading out. The program is open to ages 9 and older, with minors accompanied by an adult. The cost is $35, and CNC members receive a 20 percent discount. If weather or river conditions are unsuitable, CNC staff may cancel the trip and provide refunds.

The route spans about two miles with climbs, steps, and uneven ground, making it a good fit for confident walkers. To keep the experience intimate, tours are capped at 20 guests, creating time to savor peaceful garden views. Strollers, wagons, wheelchairs, and personal mobility scooters are not permitted due to the terrain. Wear sturdy, water resistant footwear. The fee is $7 per person in addition to regular Dow Gardens admission. Casey Lane, a guitar and violin duo featuring singer songwriter KC and classically trained violinist Elaine, shares an acoustic mix of original material and pop folk that reaches from the 1960s to today. The pair began performing together soon after they met, and they recently completed their debut recording at Hit City Studios in Indianapolis. As part of the Lunchtime Concert Series, this performance takes place at the Amphitheater at Whiting Forest of Dow Gardens. Attendees can bring a blanket or lawn chair, enjoy a picnic or purchase a fresh sandwich on site, and relax with live music, rain or shine. The weekend centers on PPG flying and community, with dry camping available for pilots and flight crew, a pancake breakfast, a barbecue, vendor displays, and plenty of opportunities to connect while supporting and growing the sport. Attendees are asked to pre-register and complete a waiver to help organizers plan for pilot parking, camping, volunteers, food service, safety, and other logistics. Vendor participation requires advance approval, and submitting an application does not guarantee a booth. Approved vendors will receive setup guidance, parking and arrival details, and information about any applicable fees. The event has been rescheduled due to forecast severe weather during the original dates, with plans to hold it under conditions better suited for safe flying. Grabinski will offer a concise overview of her approach while demonstrating on a work in progress so guests can see the equipment, tools, materials, and steps she uses. Joanne Grabinski is an improvisational fiber artist who uses the materials, tools, equipment, and techniques of needlepoint to create one-of-a-kind nonrepresentational abstract artworks. Color and geometric shapes are central to her designs, which often evolve as she stitches. Her work has appeared in juried and invited exhibitions at Studio 23, Creative 360, Artworks, 515 Gallery, Art Reach, the University Art Gallery at CMU, the Park Library at CMU, Oliver Art Center, and Glen Arbor Arts Center. Her five-piece A Wheel & 4 Triads is part of Interlochen Center for the Arts' permanent collection and hangs in the Mallory Towsley Center for Arts Leadership. After more than 30 years in higher education, she chose to pursue new paths as an artist and creative writer.

An eight week, in person yoga series focused on breath, core, and pelvic floor offers practical tools to breathe with more ease, move with greater confidence, and support whole core health. Sessions are gentle and mindful, guiding you through deep breathing for pressure regulation, abdominal strengthening, release of excess tension and unconscious gripping, nervous system calming strategies, functional pelvic floor education, and hip mobility that supports pelvic floor function. It is designed for all bodies and can be especially supportive for hip or back discomfort, rebuilding strength including postpartum, and addressing pelvic floor dysfunction. The instructor is not a doctor, so please consult your healthcare team before participating. The practice blends functional mobility, soothing Body by Breath techniques, self myofascial massage with therapy balls such as the YTU Coregeous ball, and breath integrated Forrest Yoga and Yoga Tune Up core work. Each class builds on the last, moving through themes that include Breath 101 and core stacking, pelvic awareness and mobility with guest co teacher and pelvic floor therapist Sierra Miller, OTRL, foundations of core strength, hip mobility and strength to support the pelvic floor, obliques and lateral movement, a short mid series break, mastering the hip hinge with foot connection, rotational core training, and a concluding review with a bonus topic. Classes are 60 minutes and led by Sarah Nelson, in person only. Pre registration is required. Attending the full series is encouraged, and single class participation is available if you have previously completed the series or have completed the prerequisite video practice. Participants can choose a 5K run or walk or a 10K run. The 5K follows unpaved two-track paths that weave through Midland City Forest with a mix of flat sections and hills, while the 10K adds stretches of singletrack. Spanning 520 acres of woodland with creeks, marshes, and bridges, the forest provides a scenic off-road experience that balances enjoyment and challenge. A 1 mile walk on a flat, unpaved woodland route is also available.

The route explores the Estate Garden and leaves paved surfaces, covering about 1.5 miles of uneven terrain. It is best suited to avid walkers and is not recommended for strollers, wagons, wheelchairs, or personal mobility devices. Capacity is limited and reservations are required. Participants are asked to arrive at least fifteen minutes early to allow time for the walk back to the home. This outdoor program may be canceled due to weather. Cost is 5 dollars for adults plus admission, and 3 dollars for children ages 0 to 17 and students with valid ID, plus admission.

A two day pickleball tournament at Garber Courts pairs lively matches with a community health expo. Hosted by the nonprofit Pulse3 Central Michigan University and supported by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan, this fourth annual Hearts and Paddles gathering raises funds and awareness for cardiac health across Michigan’s Great Lakes Bay region. Proceeds help place AEDs in the community, train school systems on their use, and expand education around heart health and wellness. Organizers anticipate about 300 players along with friends, family, and Health Expo visitors, with attendance expected to top two thousand across both days. Three courts will be dedicated to learn-to-play sessions and instruction. The event continues to grow each year; the previous edition featured 260 participants and 40 Health Expo vendors and generated more than $43,000 for cardiovascular wellness, contributing to $83,000 raised to date. Earlier years welcomed 84 players in the inaugural tournament and 224 in the second year while raising $20,000.

This two day Bay Valley Cares community golf fundraiser uses a five person scramble format to support local nonprofits. Registration is $225 per person, or $150 for members. Out of town guests can access a special lodging rate of $129 per night plus tax. If you are picking up for more than one household in the same vehicle, each household must either be present with matching ID, or provide written permission along with ID. If someone is collecting food on your behalf because you are working, homebound, or unable to attend, prepare a permission letter for that specific giveaway. The letter should name the person you authorize to pick up for your household, note how many people are in your household and their ages, be dated, and include your signature. It is valid only for that day. The person picking up must also have a copy of your photo ID, and a phone photo or photocopy is acceptable. For check in, look for signs along the route with a number to text. You will receive a link to a sign in form, complete it and acknowledge the instructions, then keep the confirmation screen with its timestamp. Save a screenshot and show it to staff in the parking lot. If you do not use a smartphone or prefer not to fill out forms online, staff can sign you in on a tablet. Participants practice offering initial support and learn how to connect someone with suitable care. Registration is required. A $25 fee reserves a spot and covers registration and materials. This six night journey highlights the history, culture, and European influence of two of Canada’s most celebrated cities. At the Dow Event Center, Brit Floyd presents a large-scale tribute to Pink Floyd that pairs detailed musicianship with an immersive display of lights, lasers, and video. The performance spans well known songs and deep tracks, echoing the sound, feeling, and visual sweep of the original concerts. This tour includes a complete rendition of The Dark Side of the Moon with songs like Time and Money, plus selections from The Wall such as Hey You, Comfortably Numb, and Another Brick in the Wall, Part 2. The set also reaches into other eras, from Wish You Were Here to The Division Bell. A VIP experience is available that adds a meet and greet and soundcheck visit, a tour pass and lanyard, time to browse merchandise, a private soundcheck with two additional Pink Floyd songs not in the main show, and chances to speak with the band, get items signed, and take photos. The 5th Annual BWell Race Series, presented by the BWell Saginaw Partner Coalition with Dig Deep Race Events, brings a community celebration of health and movement to the Saginaw YMCA. Participants can choose a 10K run, a 5K run or walk, or the 3K Turtles & Hares untimed fun run or walk. The 10K and 5K are professionally timed and USATF sanctioned. Entrants in these distances receive a commemorative BWell medal at the finish, the option to add a shirt during registration, awards for the top three male and female finishers, complimentary race photos to download, and access to all Turtles & Hares features. The 3K offers a relaxed, family-friendly experience for all ages with an event bib and a picturesque section through the Saginaw Children’s Zoo, and both the 5K and 3K courses include time in the zoo. The event welcomes participants of all abilities, and strollers, wheelchairs, and accommodations are supported. The Turtles & Hares 3K is free, and advance registration is encouraged. The 10K and 5K are 30 dollars with a shirt or 25 dollars without, with seniors 60 and older at 25 dollars with a shirt or 20 dollars without. A two-part, in-person Reiki training, open to anyone, covers both an introductory level and the practitioner level.
