Ham Lake Lion's ParkArtist Talk with Alex Constantine
Textile artist Alex Constantine leads an interactive demonstration on creating fabric patches at the Jan Johansen Gallery of Rumriver Art Center in Anoka, Minnesota. Connected to the exhibition Washed Up, the program follows a path from the sea’s raw beauty to the environmental costs of global fashion. Through weaving, quilting, block printing, and embroidery, Constantine reshapes stubborn discarded materials into works that challenge consumer waste. Materials include abandoned fishing line, polypropylene rope heavy with sand, and other persistent synthetics, with some components recovered as rope weathered by the Mississippi River. In the studio these finds are patiently untangled, washed, dried in sunlight, and rewoven, highlighting the physical effort involved in responding to the impacts of fast fashion. The demonstration focuses on techniques for making fabric patches and offers a close look at how reclaimed fibers are transformed. This event is free and open to the public. Rumriver Art Center is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.

Classic rock pillars like Rocket Man, Surrender, and All Right Now share the set with punk and alt bursts like Song 2, Come Out and Play, and Sabotage. Country even takes a turn with Ring of Fire, On the Road Again, and Country Roads.
