Created by Gloria Carpenter, this playful one-block marathon raises funds for the White Bear Area Food Shelf. Participants can enjoy two White Castles provided by Mueller Memorial and lemonade from Raising Cane's before the dash, grab a bottle of water at the midpoint, and celebrate at the finish with Caribou Coffee and donut holes. The event has already generated more than $140,000 for the food shelf across its first 13 years. A tax-deductible donation of $40 per participant, or $15 for children under 12, includes food before and after the race and a T-shirt. Early registrants receive a custom finisher shirt. Presented by Minnesota’s Black Community Project, an African American centered nonprofit in Minnesota, this screening features the new documentary Spotlight on Minnesota’s Triumphant African American Community. The film explores what success looks like for African Americans in Minnesota today, highlighting achievements in business and entrepreneurship, community service, education, entertainment, fine arts, the film industry, government, health and medicine, journalism, law, media and communications, religion and churches, and sports. Building on the earlier work of the late Walter R. Scott Sr., the documentary continues a tradition of profiling Black Minnesotans who have flourished across many professions before and after the Civil Rights era. Scott’s self-published titles include the Centennial Edition of the Minneapolis Beacon from 1956, Minneapolis Negro Profile from 1968, and Minnesota’s Black Community from 1976. The screening is free and open to the public, and registration is required. The film and books by Minnesota’s Black Community Project and Walter R. Scott Sr. will be available for purchase at the event. The showing takes place at the Minnesota Historical Society.

The Dweebs are a Wisconsin-based family band that began in 1987 when Michael “Papa Dweeb” Blue founded the group. Get moving before the big meal at the Woodbury Wobble 5K, a community run that also helps stock the local food bank.
