A caller leads participants through each sequence, first by walking the figures together and then by prompting once the music starts. Patterns share roots with old time square dance, but are arranged in long lines with partners facing across the set. No partner or prior experience is required, partners change throughout and every dance is taught. The music draws on traditional acoustic styles and often highlights lively fiddles along with other instruments. Tunes may reflect New England, French Canadian, Irish, Scottish, and Cape Breton influences, as well as modern compositions. Performances frequently showcase local musicians, with occasional guest bands. Admission varies by format. With live music, general admission is 15 dollars, members 12 dollars, young adults ages 18 to 30 are 8 dollars, youth ages 10 to 17 are 4 dollars, and children under 10 are free.
