Self-Titled unleashes its high-energy Midwest rock at the Boathouse Stage at the Minnesota State Fair. Hailing from the Twin Cities, the five-member lineup of Tommy Vote, Collin Johnson, Ryan Howe, Ryan Amble, and Toni Sorini is driven by powerful guitars, commanding vocals, and a genuine love of performing. O.A.R. brings its Three Decades Tour to The Armory in Minneapolis, MN, with Gavin DeGraw and KT Tunstall also performing. The concert features live sets from all three artists.

Presented by KFAI’s Temposphere at The Parkway Theater, this all-ages concert spotlights Antibalas, the Brooklyn-rooted ensemble that helped reignite Afrobeat for audiences around the world. Inspired by Fela Kuti, the group turns every instrument into part of the groove, with horns, bass, guitars, keys, and percussion interlocking to create dance-ready rhythms. Their sound threads Afrobeat with Latin flavors, jazz sophistication, funk grit, classical touches, and soul, shaped by players who listen closely to one another and build momentum through musical conversation. Formed in 1997, the band’s name translates from Spanish as bulletproof or anti bullet, a fitting nod to a style that travels widely and influences many. Members of the horn section have appeared on Grammy-winning recordings by Angelique Kidjo and Mark Ronson and contributed to dozens of albums, soundtracks, and live collaborations with artists including The Roots, My Morning Jacket, TV on the Radio, Santigold, Jovanotti, Nneka, Alabama Shakes, The String Cheese Incident, Paul Simon, and Public Enemy. Alumni have recorded and performed with The Dap Kings, Mark Ronson, The Black Keys, the Arks, Menahan Street Band, the El Michels Affair, Arcade Fire, Iron and Wine, Bat For Lashes, and Imogen Heap. Their most recent release, Hourglass on Daptone Records, returns to an instrumental focus, carrying forward themes from earlier vocal work by communicating through melody and rhythm for broader accessibility. The album moves from ecstatic 12-8 pulses to swing in the vein of Machito and 1970s Ghanaian dance bands like Gyedu Blay-Ambolley, revisits classic Lagos-style Afrobeat through a Brooklyn lens, and closes with a journey into psychedelic, freedom-minded funk. Coverage from outlets such as Rolling Stone has praised their exuberant approach to Afrobeat, and the live set is known for polyrhythmic, horn-driven power that keeps bodies moving.

This weekly party features two-for-one drink deals while DJs blend modern and classic hip hop and RnB. It takes place in the Lyndale bar at the Uptown VFW and is curated by DJ Dimitry Killstorm from Cheap Thrills. There is no cover.

Beatles classics take the spotlight when The WannaBeatles appear at the Minnesota State Fair Bandshell for the first time. Charanga Tropical brings a blend of salsa with string instruments to the Minnesota State Fair on the International Bazaar Stage. There are three sets of live music, and entry to the shows is included with fair admission. Food and artisan craft vendors are nearby.

The New Feral Cats bring a blend of blues, rock, and R&B to Tally's Dock Side in White Bear Lake. Take in lakeside scenery and a laid-back marina vibe while the band performs. The show is free to attend, and food and drinks are available.

Grammy-winning guitarist Pat Donohue leads a live music showcase with a rotating cast of friends, making each performance unique. A different guest joins him for every show, ranging from accomplished local musicians to touring professionals, bringing new energy and interplay each time. Traditional Irish music takes center stage in this installment of Waldmann’s Late Night Irish series, a summertime celebration of the Twin Cities’ lively Irish scene rooted in institutions like the Center for Irish Music and Celtic Junction and energized by devoted session players across town. The evening’s lineup is shaped with the help of Brian Miller, a guitarist, bouzouki player, and singer who has toured in North America and Ireland with Bua, Danny Diamond, and other traditional groups. He performs with Northern Shores and Two Tap Trio, teaches at the Center for Irish Music, and has received Minnesota State Arts Board grants for research on Irish-influenced songs of Midwestern lumberjacks. He also curates the Northwoods Songs blog and hosts the weekly Shamrock Shore program on Jazz88.fm. Drawing on a wide pool of regional talent, each performance brings a fresh mix of skilled traditional musicians for a lively night of tunes in the taproom.

Charanga Tropical returns to the Minnesota State Fair for a second day on the International Bazaar Stage, presenting a mix of salsa and strings across three sets. Admission to the performances is included with entry to the fair. The stage is near food and artisan craft offerings.

Nothing But Hits Records and Tapes presents an evening devoted to British punk and post punk tribute acts at James Ballentine "Uptown" VFW - Post 246. The lineup features the Snotty Rottens performing the music of the Sex Pistols, RuDeGiRL performing the music of the Clash, and the Joy Sub-Division performing the music of Joy Division. Tickets are $13 in advance and $15 at the door.

Brad Paisley takes the stage with special guest Avery Anna. Set out on a blues-filled river outing aboard the Magnolia Blossom departing from Watergate Marina, where passengers can enjoy light, refreshing snacks and a cash bar during a smooth ride on the Mississippi. The cruise is booked and hosted by emcee Lady J Griot (Jacquie Maddix) of KFAI’s Songs of the Soul, recipient of the 2026 Jo McMullen Boyer Broadcaster of the Year. Featured performers include award-winning saxophonist Steve Clarke and professional jazz vocalist Dorothy Doring. Clarke is a Minnesota musician, entertainer, bandleader, and multi-instrumentalist with 11 Minnesota Music Awards, three Grammy nominations, and induction into the Mid-America Music Hall of Fame, known around the Twin Cities for projects such as The Working Stiffs, Other Country Ensemble, Edmonds Station, and Louis & Clarke, and for solo sets that have greeted travelers at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport. Doring is a versatile vocalist and songwriter across jazz, rock, R&B, swing, and blues, lead singer for the swing band Swingin’ on a Star, and a familiar voice on stages including the Dakota Jazz Club, Crooners Supper Club, MN Music Cafe, the Twin Cities Jazz Festival, and Snug Harbor in New Orleans. This KFAI Board of Directors fundraiser directs 100 percent of proceeds to KFAI to help keep communities connected. Tickets are $70 in advance and $75 during the week of the event. At the Minnesota State Fair, First Avenue Goes to the Fair showcases Minnesota’s music community with host Jade and featured performers Al Church and the Congregation. The lineup includes Adam Bohanan, Annie Sparrows, Erik Koskinen, Obadiah Gamble, Thomas Sticha, Clayton Ryan, GR3G, LASALLE, Mike Kota, and Sophie Hiroko. Presented on the Pryes Stage at the Schilling Amphitheater in the West End, these all-ages shows highlight voices from the local scene, past and present, with energetic sets, community spirit, and a few unexpected moments along the way.

Learn how to create live musical underscoring for improvised scenes at a collaborative jam that blends guidance with immediate practice. Designed for musicians interested in supporting improv in the moment, it focuses on real-time scene scoring and then putting those skills to work together. Musicians, improvisers, and newcomers are welcome. Participants can bring an instrument or take part without one. Open to the public and free. Hosted by Karyn Wilson and Paulie Hendrickson, inspired by Paulie Hendrickson's vision, at Showtime Studio and Coffee.

An upbeat night of contra dancing unfolds in the Large Studio at Tapestry Folkdance Center, beginning with a beginner-friendly lesson followed by a full evening of social dancing. A caller leads a welcoming walk-through to teach the figures, then continues to guide the floor once the music starts. The movements echo elements of old-time square dance, but are danced in long lines with partners facing one another down the hall. No partner is necessary since partners change throughout the event, and every dance is taught. Music draws on traditional acoustic styles and often features fiddles, with influences from New England, French Canadian, Irish, Scottish, and Cape Breton traditions alongside modern compositions. Admission for live music nights is $15 for general admission, $12 for Tapestry members, $8 for young adults ages 18 to 30, $4 for youth ages 10 to 17, and free for children under 10. On recorded music nights, admission is $12 for general admission, $10 for members, and $7 for ages 10 to 21. Pay What You Choose pricing is available from the 1st through the 7th of each month. No prior experience is required, and comfortable shoes, curiosity, and a readiness to move are encouraged.

Rebel Queens brings free shows to the Summit Stage at the Bazaar at the Minnesota State Fair. This Minneapolis-based, all-women rock band salutes the roots of rock while pushing it forward, blending high-energy takes on classic songs with explosive original material. The show features blazing guitars, big sing-along hooks, and a playful stage presence. The group has performed at hundreds of events and released multiple EPs, sharing bills with Tom Keifer, Stephen Pearcy, Night Ranger, and Jackyl, maintaining a regular slot at the Full Throttle Saloon during the Sturgis Bike Rally, and making a Hollywood debut at the Whisky a Go-Go. The lineup primarily features Tiffany Xtine on lead vocals, Katie Wyrd on guitar and vocals, Natalie Fideler on guitar, Lou Block on bass and vocals, Beth Varela on drums, and Erica Bisbey on keys.
