    An upbeat night of contra dancing unfolds in the Large Studio at Tapestry Folkdance Center, beginning with a beginner-friendly lesson followed by a full evening of social dancing. A caller leads a welcoming walk-through to teach the figures, then continues to guide the floor once the music starts. The movements echo elements of old-time square dance, but are danced in long lines with partners facing one another down the hall. No partner is necessary since partners change throughout the event, and every dance is taught. Music draws on traditional acoustic styles and often features fiddles, with influences from New England, French Canadian, Irish, Scottish, and Cape Breton traditions alongside modern compositions. Admission for live music nights is $15 for general admission, $12 for Tapestry members, $8 for young adults ages 18 to 30, $4 for youth ages 10 to 17, and free for children under 10. On recorded music nights, admission is $12 for general admission, $10 for members, and $7 for ages 10 to 21. Pay What You Choose pricing is available from the 1st through the 7th of each month. No prior experience is required, and comfortable shoes, curiosity, and a readiness to move are encouraged.
