    2026 Junior Festival

Doug Wood Arena, 151 6th St S, South St Paul · verified Jul 31
    See details

MGHCA brings back Junior Fest at the Doug Woog Ice Arena in South St. Paul, spotlighting top female hockey players from the 2027 graduating class. Created at the request of college coaches, this showcase offers high-level competition and meaningful exposure to NCAA women’s hockey programs. Selection is limited to 136 athletes, with 72 forwards, 48 defensemen, and 16 goalies placed on eight teams. Each player is guaranteed four games. Benches feature two college coaches, and teams are led by NCAA Division I and III head and assistant coaches. Participants receive custom jerseys and socks to keep, along with direct access to college coaching staffs and recruiting visibility. During registration, players complete a questionnaire and share contact details so programs can follow up after the event. Games consist of two 25-minute stop-time periods, with a five-minute warmup and teams remaining on the ice afterward. Ties in regulation proceed to one eight-minute sudden death overtime. If still tied, each team is awarded 1.5 points. In the championship round, ties after overtime are settled by a five-shooter contest, and no player takes a second attempt until all teammates have gone. Preliminary standings tiebreakers are applied in this order: head-to-head result, fewest goals allowed, most goals scored, then a coin toss if needed. The fee is $300 per player. Capacity is limited and expected to fill quickly. There is no admission charge for spectators, so families and friends can watch some of the state’s best talent compete at a premier high school showcase.
