    The Boneshakers

Knuckleheads, 2715 Rochester Ave, Kansas City · verified Aug 2
    See details

The Boneshakers deliver a powerhouse blend of Detroit soul, Muscle Shoals style R&B, funk, blues, and rock, led by world-renowned guitarist Randy Jacobs of Was (Not Was). Band members have toured or recorded with a long list of luminaries that includes Aretha Franklin, Elton John, Stevie Wonder, Bob Dylan, BB King, Buddy Guy, Seal, Keb Mo, Mindi Abair, Bootsy Collins, Tears for Fears, and Iggy Pop. Jacobs first bonded musically with vocalist Sweetpea Atkinson during early sessions for Don and David Was, a partnership that helped fuel the rise of Was (Not Was) and produced the co-written hit “Walk the Dinosaur.” Their studio time with Bonnie Raitt inspired the Boneshakers name, and the group went on to release albums such as “Book of Spells” and “Shake the Planet,” followed by additional studio and live recordings. Collaborations with Mindi Abair brought multiple independent blues honors, including Artist of the Year, recognition for the song “Pretty Good For A Girl” featuring Joe Bonamassa, and a critics award for the holiday album “All I Got For Christmas Is The Blues.” After the passing of Sweetpea Atkinson, the legacy moved forward with vocalist Jenny Langer, working again with producer John Wooler and original players Sergio Gonzales, Nathan Brown, Jon Gilutin, and The Texacali Horns with Sir Harry Bowens. The album “One Foot In the Groove” topped blues and soul charts in the UK and US, and “Live To Be This” on Gulf Coast Records reached the Billboard Top 10 and earned national coverage. Expect tight grooves, sharp songwriting, and dynamic vocals from a band with deep roots and a celebrated track record.
