This weekend in St. Joseph, MO

The fourth annual St. Joseph, Missouri Marathon, presented by Gray Manufacturing, is hosted by the St. Joseph Sports Commission in partnership with the Junior League of St. Joseph. Runners can choose from five options that suit a wide range of goals, including a 26.2-mile marathon, a 13.1-mile half marathon, a 10K at 6.2 miles, a 5K at 3.1 miles, and a five-person relay that covers the full course. The route starts and finishes behind Civic Center Park in downtown St. Joseph, travels from the north to the south side of the city, highlights local landmarks, and incorporates the community’s historic parkway system for a course that is both picturesque and demanding. Over its first three years, participation grew to nearly 700 runners and the event earned strong feedback from attendees. Proceeds support the growth, development, and programming of the St. Joseph Sports Commission, as well as Junior League initiatives that include Cinderella’s Closet, Hope Totes, Community Assistance, and Literacy Grants, along with support for the United Way of Greater St. Joseph.

Follow the storied paths of Jesse James and the Younger Gang at the annual Jesse James Rideout NATRC Competitive Trail Ride. Smithville Lake features 32 miles of well-maintained trails, creating a scenic setting for competition. The Crow's Creek equestrian campground offers ample space and useful amenities for riders and horses. All NATRC divisions are offered.

Celebrate community spirit at the CASA Super Hero Run, offering 10K, 5K, and Fun Run options for runners and walkers. Participants are encouraged to wear superhero costumes for a lighthearted contest with prizes. By taking part, entrants support CASA's work to advocate for children's safety and wellbeing while supporting families in the community. Early and race-morning packet pickup will be available. The fun run and the costume contest follow the 10K and 5K. Whether aiming for a personal best or enjoying the course with family and friends, every mile helps the mission.

The September Smokin Tunes event features a performance by Backroad Navigators, barbecue served by Meat Heads Smoked Meats & Catering, and on-site stitching and embroidery from The Stitching Post No.75.

Compass Fall Carnival & Silent Auction brings together the community for an afternoon of family fun connected to Compass Elementary. Expect classic carnival games, a bustling silent auction, a sweet cake walk, and a lineup of food trucks, along with other activities for all ages. Admission is $5 per person, and children under 3 are free. Proceeds support Compass students, teachers, and school programs, offering a festive way to enjoy games, treats, and time together.
