To complete the challenge, runners must finish the 10K within 1.5 hours and begin the 5K at its scheduled start. This celebration marks Elizabeth City’s official start to the holiday season with the annual lighting at the Pasquotank County Courthouse and Pool Street Park, then continues with festivities along Main Street. Now in its fifteenth year, this holiday tradition brings families together at Elizabeth City Waterfront Park for a community-minded day of running and support. Participants can take part in a 5k and a 1 mile family fun run, and pets are welcome. On site 5k registration is available before the race begins. Early 5k registration guarantees a 2026 race shirt, with remaining shirts available while supplies last. Those interested in sponsoring or volunteering can contact Denise Perry at 252-338-5658. All proceeds help local children who have experienced abuse or neglect by funding in home and in office therapy, family advocacy, and education.

Celebrate local businesses in the heart of downtown during Small Business Saturday, a nationwide American Express program that encourages support for neighborhood shops. Elizabeth City Downtown, Inc. and participating merchants are planning a lively day with holiday music, festive window displays, treats in various stores, roaming visits from Santa, and plenty of special sales. An information booth hosted by Elizabeth City Downtown, Inc. will offer free swag, and Santa will be out and about greeting shoppers. Hours vary by business, with some offering early doorbusters and many staying open later. Plans include activities, kid friendly experiences, special shopping discounts, and options for lunch or drinks at downtown restaurants. Free and open to all.

Downtown Elizabeth City comes alive for the monthly First Friday ArtWalk as galleries, studios, and shops keep their doors open into the evening, welcoming guest artists along with food and music throughout the walk. The Curb Rides transport vehicle will be circulating to help people move between stops and can be reached at (252) 340-1424 for pickup from a downtown parking spot. Downtown restaurants, pubs, and cafes are open for your enjoyment, including 2 Souls Wine Bar, The Bistro, Bistro Tropical, Coasters Downtown Draught House, Colonial Café, The Corner Mexican Restaurant, Cypress Creek Grill, Electric Garden, Elizabeth City Pizza Co., Ghost Harbor Brewing Company Taproom, Hoppin’ Johnz New South Cuisine, Juniper Cocktails, Kin'Folk Axe Throwing Bar, The Kraken Coffee House, Main Street Tea House, Muddy Waters Coffee, Proof Roma Ristorante, Pine & Porch, River City Biergarten, Quality Seafood, Seven Sounds Brewing Co., The SweetEasy Bakery, Tooley’s Tavern at The Boathouse, and Toyama Japanese. The Pasquotank River Yacht Club, in partnership with ECDI, brings back a festive holiday tradition on the water. A fleet of boats decorated with holiday lights will circle the harbor for spectators to enjoy. The most convenient viewing is from Mariners’ Wharf Park and Moth Boat Park.
