AJ Lee & Blue Summit | The Cody Sisters

    Winston-Salem · The Ramkat, 170 W 9th St

AJ Lee & Blue Summit return to The Ramkat with special guests The Cody Sisters. AJ Lee & Blue Summit formed in Santa Cruz after years of teenage jam sessions at local bluegrass festivals, then took to the road and grew into a leading voice in contemporary bluegrass. The group features AJ Lee on mandolin, Jan Purat on fiddle, Sullivan Tuttle on guitar, and Sean Newman on bass. Their music blends the spark of their festival beginnings with an easy confidence, reflected on their third studio album City Of Glass, released on Signature Sounds in 2024, and on the 2025 covers collection Cover to Cover V.1 with guests including Lindsay Lou, Trey Hensley, Ahn Phung, and Kyle Tuttle. The Cody Sisters bring close harmonies and finely crafted picking from a lifelong immersion in Colorado folk and bluegrass. The band includes Maddie Cody, Megan Cody, and bassist Will Pavilonis. Maddie plays banjo, Megan plays mandolin, and both also trade on guitar, a mix that earned them an early following through steady performing, writing, and travel. Their songs often lift up quiet voices and shared stories, and the addition of Pavilonis in 2020 introduced new depth to their arrangements.

An Evening of Tea & Spirits: Messages Beyond the Veil

Winston-Salem · Oasis at The Mill, 918 Bridge St

This small, reflective gathering centers on spirit communication as messages emerge during a group mediumship session, then continues with tea, conversation, and light snacks. The medium describes acting as a bridge between those who are living, those who have passed, and those in a middle state. No specific individuals are called upon, as information comes from those who most need to be heard. Messages are guided by need rather than want. In a group setting, not everyone will receive a personal message, and some messages may resonate with more than one attendee. To keep the process clear, participants are asked not to share hoped-for outcomes, names, dates, relationships, or other details in advance, allowing the spirits to speak for themselves. A casual reception to meet and chat follows, with tea and snacks provided by the host. Tickets are $49 per person. Frank Chodl, a psychic medium with international recognition, leads the evening. His books, classes, and seminars draw on decades of paranormal work, research, and teaching. He noticed his abilities at the age of eight and was identified as a deep trance medium by the late Lorraine Warren in 1975. Over the years he has offered numerous accurate, impactful readings that have been observed by psychologists, parapsychologists, and paranormal investigators, serving individuals and groups in private homes, historic inns and hotels, battlefields, and cemeteries. Color Theory: Aerial Perspective in Landscapes with Kimberly Varnadoe

Lewisville · Mary Alice Warren Community Center, 7632 Warren Park Dr

Explore how atmospheric conditions and color shifts can create convincing depth in landscape painting in a hands-on workshop with Kimberly Varnadoe. Learn the principle of aerial perspective, a practice traced to Leonardo da Vinci and related to the Munsell system, where colors often lighten in value, shift bluer in hue, and grow grayer in chroma as they recede. Consider how moisture and elevation affect clarity, from misty lowlands to dry high country, then apply those insights while building color sequences that suggest distant space on a two dimensional surface. Through guided practice, create a series of loose color studies in varied palettes and take techniques you can carry back to your studio. All materials for acrylic painting are supplied, and you are welcome to bring preferred media or personal brushes. Member fee is $15 and non member fee is $20, made possible at a reduced rate with support from the Shallow Ford Foundation.

    Winston-Salem · The Ramkat, 170 W 9th St

American Aquarium returns to The Ramkat in Winston-Salem with a gritty, heartfelt rock and roll set led by frontman BJ Barham. With 20 years behind them, 20 releases, and more than 4,000 shows, the band has built its place through relentless touring and perseverance through lineup changes, heartbreak, addiction and recovery, a global pandemic, and other challenges. Their album New Ways to Lose, produced by multi-time Grammy winner Shooter Jennings, was recorded in Los Angeles during a focused 10-day stretch that captured the band live in the room, then rounded out with three-part harmonies and horn arrangements. The sound comes across big-screen and tough, balancing vulnerable storytelling with the surging release of an anthemic rock band, nodding to heartland influences like Bruce Springsteen, Tom Petty, and Neil Young while remaining distinctly American Aquarium.

The Nutcracker by United European Ballet in Winston-Salem, NC

    Winston-Salem · RJ Reynolds Auditorium, 301 N Hawthorne Rd

The United European Ballet brings The Nutcracker to R. J. Reynolds Auditorium in a production presented by Classical Arts Entertainment. Set to Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s timeless music, the ballet follows Clara as a mysterious present leads her into a wintry dream, a clash with the Mouse King, and a journey to the Land of Sweets. An international ensemble from across Europe, including leading soloists from Ukraine, animates the story with polished technique and expressive artistry. The staging combines classical ballet with theatrical flourishes, featuring more than 200 costumes and carefully crafted sets. Hand-painted backdrops by Ukrainian artists and costumes by European designers enrich the experience, with favorite moments such as the Snow Scene, Waltz of the Flowers, and the Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy. The performance is presented in two acts with one intermission and is suitable for families with children ages 3 and up.

Not Your High School Art Class: Quarter 4

    Kernersville · 210 N Main St

An adult art series focused on practical skills you can use again and again, with no grading unless that is something you want. Each quarter features three Sunday sessions. The first builds core techniques in the chosen medium. The second offers a structured project to apply those skills. The third culminates in a finished piece that can be framed or stuck on the fridge. The fee is $75 per quarter and covers all three classes and the supply kits. Every class includes snacks and Sunday beverages. Quarter 4 centers on oil pastels, a medium that blends easily and can get messy. You will explore blending, color theory, how to suggest movement without turning colors muddy, and knowing when to stop. Guided practice includes a step-by-step goldfish in oil pastel, and the final project invites an expressive piece inspired by a favorite beverage, whether that is coffee, wine, or whatever helped during the previous quarter.
