Flat Iron presents a night with Atlanta-based singer, songwriter, and producer Desmond Myers alongside independent rock musician Aaron Rizzo. Myers pairs a smooth, understated tenor with atmospheric, colorful production and candid lyrics, moving between guitar and synthesizer with a blend of restraint and spark. Years spent in France infused his sound with indie funk and disco influences, heard on the album Shadowdancer and its breakout single Playing with Fire, which has garnered more than 4 million streams. He is also preparing the album Superdomestic with the single Balloon and scheduling dates along the East Coast. Rizzo, originally from Rochester and now creating in Atlanta, writes, records, and produces for himself and others, bringing agile guitar work and prolific songwriting to the forefront. His music has appeared on Shameless and Black-ish and in a T-Mobile campaign, and he has performed on NBC’s The Voice in collaboration with Michael Bublé. The 2026 Triad Walk for Apraxia is a free community event at Fourth of July Park that celebrates Apraxia Stars and raises awareness of childhood apraxia of speech. Families, friends, and professionals come together to support Apraxia Kids and to ensure children feel understood and encouraged. Organizers aim to create a safe, enjoyable, and memorable experience for entire teams of supporters, with more details to be announced. Registration is free. Every registered walker who raises $50 earns the official 2026 Walk for Apraxia t-shirt, and participants can work toward additional individual fundraising incentive prizes. All registered Apraxia Stars are honored individually and receive a free t-shirt, medal, and certificate in recognition of their hard work. Homeschool families can immerse themselves in Victorian textiles at Körner’s Folly by trying life as a fiber artist for a day. Drawing on the Körner family’s collection of historic garments and fabrics, the program invites students to examine pieces at close range and learn how they were constructed, worn, and used in everyday life. Hands-on experiences highlight the craft behind common materials. Activities include chances to weave small projects, make yarn dolls, and work with fibers similar to those used in the 19th century. The day also features self-guided exploration of the 22 room house museum, a textile themed scavenger hunt showcasing items not previously on display, historic yard games and toys, and interactive stations set up in the Community Room of the John & Bobbie Wolfe Visitor Center. Families can choose the order of activities and move at a pace that suits them. Bringing a packed lunch is welcome for a picnic on the grounds or in the John & Bobbie Wolfe Visitor Center Community Room.

Celebrate spooky season with a hands-on soy candle making workshop at Breathe Cocktail Lounge. In a friendly setting, participants hand pour custom candles using soy wax, choosing from Halloween inspired fragrances, colors, decorative touches, and seasonal vessels to create a one of a kind piece. Expect warm fall aromas, ghostly aesthetics, moody candlelight, pumpkins, and dark florals that capture the spirit of the season. The session is hosted by Hand.The.Light, known for immersive candle making experiences that highlight creativity, community, and connection. It is family friendly, with children welcome when accompanied by an adult, and makes a festive outing for families, friends, couples, and Halloween fans. No experience is required. All materials, supplies, and step by step instruction are provided, and the workshop lasts about two hours. Guests may purchase cocktails and menu items from Breathe Cocktail Lounge during the experience. Tickets are sold on Eventbrite and may include fees, with optional upgrades at checkout for premium vessels and larger candle sizes. Each attendee must hold an individual ticket. For safety, entry is not permitted more than 20 minutes after the start. Refunds are available up to seven days prior, with all sales final after that point. Space is limited.

Historical Gaming - Revolutionary Battles
The High Point University Historical Gaming Society presents a free wargaming event at the High Point Museum that spotlights key moments in the fight for America’s creation. Participants command hundreds of hand-painted, 3D-printed 15mm miniatures on detailed tabletop setups and use a streamlined, dice-based rules system that is quick to learn and play. Featured scenarios include battles such as Guilford Courthouse, each structured to finish within a couple of hours, with time to discuss the history behind the action. HPU professors and students will host and referee every table, creating a welcoming environment for both seasoned wargamers and those new to the hobby. Space is limited and advance registration is required to take part, while spectating is free and requires no registration.
