    District Hike #212 from the North Star District of the Occoneechee Council explores Annie Louise Wilkerson Nature Preserve on a loop that links Epps Forest, Prairie, Pond, Hidden Rocks, and Overflow trails for about 2.2 miles. The meeting spot is by the visitor center. Plan for rain or shine, wear sturdy walking shoes, and bring plenty of water. The outing is promoted as a family event for Scouting families with a focus on fresh air, fun, and exercise. The preserve spans 157 acres gifted to the City of Raleigh in 2006 by Dr. Annie Louise Wilkerson for the primary purposes of nature education and conservation research. Its landscapes include mature forests with trees more than 200 years old, rock outcrops, wetlands, and broad open fields. Continuing Dr. Wilkerson’s vision, the park protects habitats that support rare and endangered species and hosts hundreds of nature education programs each year for visitors of all ages. Participants are asked to follow the Guide to Safe Scouting.
