From April to September, the first Friday each month turns N. Central Ave into a lively cruise-in featuring classic cars, music, and local vendors. Enthusiasts showcase their vehicles while visitors stroll the street and enjoy an easygoing evening with the community. A benefit concert for Meals on Wheels Rowan featuring Motel Soap takes place at Meroney Theater. Every dollar raised will provide meals for homebound seniors in Rowan County.

Part of the First Fridays concert series at St. Luke’s, this organ program centers on the music of Louis Vierne. Stephen Williams, Director of Music at St. Luke’s, performs selections including Carillon de Westminster, Impromptu, the Toccata in B minor, and the Organ Symphony No. 4, Op. 32. Violist Kate Middel appears as a special guest. Admission is free, and donations support Arts at St. Luke’s.

The F&M Bank Concert Series concludes with live music by Captain Mike & Shipwrecked, performing a tribute to Jimmy Buffet. This family-friendly evening encourages attendees to bring a towel, a swimsuit, and a folding chair.

Hosted by The Malörtie Shorties, the OMM open mic at Shug’s at Brooklyn South Square highlights original music in a friendly setting for artists at any experience level. Performers can sign up on site to share their work, from first originals to fresh material from seasoned musicians. Each event includes a 30 minute spotlight set, and this lineup features Aaron Lawrence of My Blue Hope. My Blue Hope is a post emo alternative rock project led by Lawrence, active in the Charlotte area for more than five years, with emotionally charged songs that explore loss, life, and mental health. The venue is 21 and over, and performers under 21 may coordinate with the host to take part. Featured artists receive compensation.

Put your country music knowledge to the test at a music bingo event with Richard Wagoner. Instead of numbers, rounds feature country songs, and players mark their cards when they hear a matching track. It stays all country, with themes that rotate each week. Prizes await those who hit bingo first.

Open shag dancing takes place at The Swanee Theatre. This is a social dance rather than a lesson-based session, and admission is $7 per person at the door.

Spin your own records at Shug’s during an evening dedicated to vinyl. Guests can bring personal albums to play on the house turntable, trade or sell with fellow collectors, and connect with a host who keeps the music flowing. Signups are available for using the equipment and sharing your selections. Food is served through Shug’s BackStrEATs, and drink specials include $2 off craft and imported cans and bottles. Vinyl clubs are welcome to participate. Lost & Found will also offer records for sale at the event and features a range of vintage gifts, CBD, vinyl, and glass accessories.

Enjoy a special family storytime at Cognition with Piedmont Opera. Soprano Caryn Greco will read The Animal Orchestra Plays Mozart, then follow up with a live a cappella opera performance. She’ll also share a bit about opera and leave time for questions from kids and families. This program is included with museum admission and is geared for children ages 5 and up.
