Semiquincentennial Stroll—A Guided Historical Walk with MUSE Winston-Salem

    226 S Liberty St, Winston-Salem · verified Aug 30
    See details

Mark 250 years of American independence with a guided, two mile, two hour walk through Twin City history with MUSE Winston-Salem. Trace the community’s story from the colonial era to today while moving through the museum’s surrounding neighborhood, crossing bridges and old railbeds, passing former farms and factories, monuments and cemeteries, and stopping at scenic overlooks. Along the way, hear about pivotal moments in the Camel City narrative and learn about well known and overlooked figures, with an eye toward the next 250 years. The walk concludes inside the museum with refreshments and a preview of an illuminated mosaic glass mural that once hung at Smith Reynolds Airport and is now newly installed at MUSEws. Registration includes the two hour tour led by historian Dr. Mike Wakeford, executive director of MUSEws, a souvenir water bottle to use on the route, and a beverage with a light snack afterward. The course covers roughly two miles in under two hours on mostly even sidewalks with modest elevation changes and partial shade, and it takes place rain or shine. Bringing water is recommended. The guide uses amplification, registration is limited to support clear audio and questions, and a liability waiver is required before participating. This experience is designed for longtime residents and newcomers alike.
