    See details

Morgan Wade brings unflinching candor to the stage, shaping tough chapters of life into songs that feel both deeply personal and widely relatable. With a voice that blends grit, vulnerability, and strength, she has become a compelling presence in contemporary country and roots music. Her breakthrough album Reckless introduced this fearless approach and drew a devoted following, while tracks like Wilder Days showcased her gift for pairing big, arena-ready hooks with confessional lyrics. Since then, the Virginia native has expanded her sound and storytelling across Psychopath, Obsessed, and The Party Is Over (recovered), weaving country, rock, and Americana influences into narratives that grapple with addiction, mental health, resilience, and self-discovery. A much-anticipated fifth studio album is on the way, and she is also making her acting debut with a recurring role in the new season of Dutton Ranch, part of the Yellowstone universe. Whether in the studio, on stage, or onscreen, Wade delivers with intensity, emotional clarity, and a strong sense of connection.

    An Evening with Alexa Rose

The Wake Forest Listening Room, 415 Brooks Street, Wake Forest · verified Oct 2
    See details

The Wake Forest Listening Room hosts an intimate evening with Alexa Rose, featuring Josh Oliver. Praised by NPR Music, Rose brings an Appalachian-rooted voice shaped by her upbringing in the Alleghany Highlands of western Virginia and the small railroad town of Clifton Forge. Family stories about a great-grandfather who once played alongside bluegrass legend Lester Flatt, yet chose life in the mountains over Nashville, inform the place-based storytelling at the heart of her songs. Her 2019 debut, Medicine For Living, introduced that vision, with the title track winning Merlefest’s Chris Austin Songwriting Contest. The 2021 follow up, Headwaters, written largely in the early days of the pandemic, earned national attention from American Songwriter and Rolling Stone and reflects on origins and memory through the image of a river’s source. Expect a sound that blends old country and traditional folk with touches of rock and mountain soul, finding beauty in everyday moments and timeless themes. Josh Oliver, a multi-instrumentalist and songwriter from East Tennessee now based in Knoxville, adds depth to the night. He has toured widely as a supporting musician, released Troubles in 2011, and collaborated with producer Andrew Marlin on Part of Life in 2014. Since 2012 he has toured and recorded with the Chapel Hill band Mandolin Orange, now known as Watchhouse.

Murray Attaway, Don Dixon & Peter Holsapple

The Wake Forest Listening Room, 415 Brooks Street, Wake Forest · verified Oct 2
    See details

Three influential voices of American alternative music come together for a special evening shaped by decades of songwriting, production, and collaboration. Murray Attaway first came to prominence as the singer and guitarist for Guadalcanal Diary, later releasing his solo album In Thrall on DGC in 1993 with producer Tony Berg. He has composed for independent films, placed songs in film and television, and created the satirical Dazzle Dudes podcast in 2019 about a fictional group trying to launch a glam rock band in 1970s central Georgia. His first new album in more than thirty years, Tense Music Plays, arrives in April. Don Dixon is a producer, songwriter, and musician closely tied to the early 1980s jangle rock sound. After forming Arrogance as a UNC-Chapel Hill freshman and producing the band’s independent releases, he co-produced R.E.M.'s Murmur and Reckoning with Mitch Easter, then worked with artists such as Chris Stamey, The Smithereens, Fetchin' Bones, Richard Barone, Guadalcanal Diary, Marshall Crenshaw, Tommy Keene, and James McMurtry. Peter Holsapple made his mark with the dBs alongside Chris Stamey, Gene Holder, and Will Rigby, becoming the principal singer and songwriter after Stamey’s departure. He performed as an auxiliary musician with R.E.M. and Hootie & the Blowfish, joined the Continental Drifters, and released solo albums including Out of the Way and Game Day. The dBs reunited in 2024 to support re-releases of their catalog, and his third solo album, produced by Don Dixon, was released on April 12, 2025. Together, their histories link landmark bands, albums, and recordings across jangle rock and beyond, setting the stage for an evening rich with connections and enduring music.

    Carrie Welling

The Wake Forest Listening Room, 213 S White St, Wake Forest · verified Oct 2
    See details

The spark for Carrie Welling’s latest chapter began in the quiet of savasana, the restful close of a yoga practice where a brief pause can soften anxious noise and let in a hint of peace. From that sliver of calm came Crack in the Chaos, an album that urges a search for joy in turbulent times and suggests that the struggle is part of the path. Americana pop textures blend with her singer songwriter roots and forthright, empowering lyrics, revealing a more seasoned sound that still holds her signature honesty. Listeners often compare her rich, expressive voice to the grit of Sheryl Crow, the storytelling touch of Tom Petty, and the heart of Stevie Nicks, matched by a sincere connection with fans on and off the stage. Shaped in Nashville by producer Bobby Holland and recorded at Pentavrit Studio, the record features collaborations with Brad Sample, Craig Wilson, Eric Erdman, Donny Brewer, and Eric Holljes of Delta Rae. It was lifted by a successful Kickstarter and the steady encouragement of her Patreon community, the Wellos, whose support has grown over the past four years through house concerts, open doors, and friendship. Welling reflects on the lessons of recent years, noting that both the pandemic and getting older taught her resilience and self worth. Her touring and performance highlights include runs with Delta Rae, Wyn Starks, Carbon Leaf, David Cook, and Bowen Young, appearances on the Melissa Etheridge Cruise and Sail Across the Sun with Train, shows in The Netherlands and Germany, headlining Norwegian Cruises and the Meeting of the Minds Festival, and the Songwriter Island Showcase in Isla Mujeres, Mexico. The result is a performance shaped by vulnerability and strength, with songs that look for light in the middle of the noise.
