    Open Studio

coLAB Arts Studios, 6 Kirkpatrick St, New Brunswick
    See details

An open studio with Haemee Han highlights the work of a public artist, landscape architect, and educator born in South Korea and based in New Jersey. Han works at the meeting point of sculpture and landscape, exploring how objects can read as terrain and how environments can be distilled into intimate, inhabitable forms. Her practice focuses on public space as a place of encounter, where scale, material, and narrative shape shared experience. As the founder of Jaemee Studio and a licensed landscape architect, she creates interactive settings across public installations, garden exhibitions, and built landscapes that encourage movement and conversation. Her training includes a Master of Landscape Architecture from the Harvard Graduate School of Design and a Bachelor of Landscape Architecture from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Her work has been shown internationally, including the Chaumont-sur-Loire Garden Festival in France, and in projects throughout North America, Europe, and Asia. Through experiments with form and shifts in scale, and by reimagining familiar objects, she crafts spaces that blur function and imagination and spark dialogue among people and place. An artist talk with Han is also planned at the same location.

    Buddy Guy 90

State Theatre , 15 Livingston Ave, New Brunswick
    See details

This event centers on the legacy and ongoing artistry of Buddy Guy as he nears 90, spotlighting a trailblazing guitarist whose work reshaped American music. A Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee and a driving force behind Chicago’s West Side blues, he has inspired generations of rock and blues artists. His honors include nine Grammy Awards alongside a Lifetime Achievement Grammy, 38 Blues Music Awards, the Billboard Century Award, the National Medal of Arts, and a Kennedy Center Honor. Rolling Stone places him at number 23 on its list of the 100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time. From his beginnings in Lettsworth, Louisiana, where he crafted a two‑string guitar as a child, to his 1957 move to Chicago and recordings with Chess Records, Buddy Guy forged a bold style defined by searing tone, unfiltered emotion, and charismatic stagecraft. That sound expanded what electric blues could express and set a benchmark many have followed. His recent chapters underscore a continuing creative surge, from a Kennedy Center recognition and his memoir When I Left Home to a PBS American Masters profile. Acclaimed albums have marked the way, including Born to Play Guitar, The Blues Is Alive and Well, which earned his eighth Grammy in 2019, and The Blues Don’t Lie, a Billboard number one on the Blues chart in 2022. In 2025 he released Ain’t Done With the Blues, produced by Tom Hambridge and featuring The Blind Boys of Alabama, Peter Frampton, Joe Walsh, Christone “Kingfish” Ingram, and Joe Bonamassa. Its lead single, How Blues Is That?, reaffirmed the grit, humor, and wisdom that define his late‑career momentum. Issued on his 89th birthday, the album drew wide acclaim and reinforced his stature as a towering elder of the blues. Around the same time, an appearance in Ryan Coogler’s film SINNERS introduced him to new audiences. A warm tribute to a living legend, this occasion reflects a lifetime devoted to pushing the guitar forward while honoring a promise to keep the blues alive.
