Linocut is a relief printmaking method where a design is cut into linoleum, inked, and pressed onto paper or fabric to create an image. Participants will learn to trace a design, carve a block, and make prints, then transfer their artwork onto a tote bag supplied by UHEC. His projects are visually bold and conceptually driven, and even when created for specific clients they retain his signature aesthetic. He collaborates closely with communities, balances public art, corporate commissions, and personal work, often painting with youth organizations and showing in galleries in New York and internationally. Career highlights include a Fulbright in Ukraine focused on community-engaged public art, selection as one of five artists for the New York City Department of Sanitation’s Trucks of Art program, and a group exhibition in Tokyo where he auctioned artwork to support children affected by the war in Ukraine. Recent undertakings include his largest mural to date spanning an entire block in Kensington, Brooklyn for the Department of Transportation and shaped through workshops with local students and residents, a collaborative mural at Shaw Middle School in Spokane with the Washington State Arts Commission, and leading nine European artists to create Garden of Collective Futures at The Standard, East Village as part of an E.U.N.I.C. Cluster initiative. The open studio presents a chance to see the breadth of his work and how community engagement informs his approach.
