Croydon Hall SchoolLong Branch Ocean Swim | WEDNESDAY - Aug 5 (630pm)
Experience a coached open water ocean swim off the beach at Pier Village in Long Branch. Led by Coach Brian Shea, this session welcomes participants who can swim more than 500 yards unassisted. The course is a buoy-marked loop of roughly 500 meters designed to help with sighting and navigation, and swimmers may complete as many laps as they prefer during the session. Safety is a priority, with a guarded format that includes at least two lifeguards in the water on boards or kayaks. Meet at the lifeguard stand on the beach at Pier Village. Metered parking is available nearby. A suggested donation of $10 per swim, or three swims for $20, helps cover lifeguards and equipment, with a clearly labeled canister on the beach for contributions. Water temperatures often range from 60 to 70 F, so a wetsuit may be helpful if you are sensitive to cooler conditions. Wetsuit rentals are available for $25 per day and arranging one in advance is recommended. Swimmers should be comfortable in deep water, able to go beyond 400 meters without stopping, and not rely on lifeguard assistance except in emergencies. Please check for updates before heading out, as the swim may be canceled if weather or ocean conditions are unfavorable. Coach Brian Shea is the founder and head coach of Jersey Shore Masters, an experienced endurance athlete and coach with multiple Ironman finishes including Hawaii, numerous competitions in the United States and abroad, top ten results at the 8 mile Swim for Alligator Light, and podium finishes at the United States Lifesaving Association National Championships.

Wonder BarHot Tuna
Hot Tuna brings decades of creative musicianship to the Hackensack Meridian Health Theatre on the Basie Center campus, led by the longtime partnership of guitarist Jorma Kaukonen and bassist Jack Casady. Formed in the late 1960s as a separate outlet from their work in Jefferson Airplane, the project grew into a band known for spontaneity and constant reinvention. Their first release in 1970, recorded live, set the tone with performances that change from night to night and thrive on open‑ended interplay. Across more than a dozen albums, the music has shifted from acoustic blues to electric rock, including the heavier turn marked by America’s Choice, Yellow Fever, and Hoppkorv. Listeners embraced songs like Keep On Truckin, and the shows earned a reputation for extended improvisations and long, free-flowing sets. Onstage the group has appeared as an intimate duo or with rotating collaborators, yet the core remains the deep musical conversation between Kaukonen and Casady. Both have been honored with induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award, and they continue to let each song take shape through close listening and instinctive chemistry.

Asbury Park BreweryMagnolia Summer Evening Experience 2026
For youth who crave golden sunsets, flickering campfires, and meaningful time with animals, Magnolia Equine Sanctuary offers a calm, two-evening drop-off experience designed for ages 9 to 14. As the sanctuary settles into the night, participants meet the rescued horses, goats, and cows who live there, then take part in the gentle rhythm of evening care. Feeding grain, filling water troughs, prepping hay nets, and helping the herd wind down becomes a hands-on way to slow the pace and feel present. Guided moments with the horses include grooming while they eat and leading demonstrations with individuals who are comfortable and willing that day. There is unhurried time in the paddocks to observe and connect at the animals’ pace, with an emphasis on reading body language, respecting boundaries, and learning that trust grows through patience and care. The experience also lifts up a larger goal, encouraging empathy and a commitment to stand against animal cruelty in every form. On the first night, participants prepare frozen enrichment treats made with apples, carrots, and apple juice. On the second, they offer those treats after the evening feed. Goat pen time adds a playful pause as the sun lowers, followed by a packed dinner under the open sky. Each evening wraps up around a campfire with s’mores. Cost is $150 per youth. Spots are limited to keep the atmosphere calm, personal, and meaningful for every participant and animal. Interactions happen only on the animals’ terms, and paddocks may be closed at any time to keep everyone safe since this is a rescue and sanctuary, not a petting zoo. All ticket sales are nonrefundable and help care for the rescued animals. If weather or an emergency interrupts plans, the experience will be rescheduled and tickets will automatically move to the new date.

Allentown High SchoolLong Branch Ocean Swim | Saturday - Aug 22 (6am)
An open water ocean swim takes place off the Pier Village beachfront in Long Branch, led by Coach Brian Shea. It is intended for swimmers who can cover more than 500 yards without assistance. The route is a buoyed loop of roughly 500 meters, making it easy to practice sighting and navigation while completing as many laps as desired within an hour. Safety support includes at least two lifeguards in the water on boards or kayaks. The session may be canceled if weather or ocean conditions are unfavorable. Water temperatures are expected to range from about 55 to 65 degrees Fahrenheit, so a wetsuit is recommended if that feels chilly, and rentals are available for $25 per day. Those new to open water are encouraged to start with a beginner clinic before attempting this swim. Metered parking is available around Pier Village. A suggested donation of $10 per swim, or three swims for $20, helps cover lifeguards and equipment. Coach Brian Shea, founder and head coach of Jersey Shore Masters, brings more than three decades of endurance experience. His background includes multiple Ironman finishes including Hawaii, repeated top ten results at the 8 mile Swim for Alligator Light in Islamorada, and podium finishes in the M40-49 division at the United States Lifesaving Association National Championships. He is also a certified coach who develops training and sports nutrition plans for athletes from beginner to professional.
