Toad the Wet Sprocket returns to the stage at the Hackensack Meridian Health Theatre on the Basie Center campus with a career-spanning acoustic performance. The band began in Santa Barbara in 1986 when Glen Phillips, Todd Nichols, Dean Dinning, and Randy Guss met through a high school theater group and chose a name inspired by Monty Python. Their shoestring debut, Bread & Circus, recorded for just $600, led to a Columbia Records deal and a path defined by independence. Among the group’s original lineup, four members were raised in Lancaster, Pennsylvania under strict Amish traditions that prohibited alcohol and musical instruments. After stepping beyond those limits, they embraced the modern world and, most of all, its music. The performance spans hip hop, rock, country, metal, disco, and opera, fueled by a passion for the stage forged through years of restraint.
