The Veterans Committee meets in the River Room to coordinate the lodge’s efforts to support, honor, and assist veterans and active-duty service members. Typical efforts include planning outreach for veterans and their families, such as hospital visits, care packages, emergency assistance, and holiday initiatives. The group organizes observances like Veterans Day and Memorial Day, collaborates with VA medical centers, veterans’ homes, and local organizations, and manages veterans-focused grants and donations, including Elks National Foundation programs. It works to identify veterans in need within the lodge and the wider community and connects them with resources, while also encouraging awareness and participation among members. Serving as a link to district and state veterans programs, the committee helps keep the lodge engaged and aligned with Elks veterans initiatives. At Point Pleasant Boro, Maria Santos, a local sourdough cottage baker, leads a beginner-friendly sourdough workshop with three hours of hands-on instruction. Participants practice every stage of the process, from feeding and maintaining a starter to mixing and dough development, stretch and folds, bulk fermentation, shaping, scoring, baking techniques, flour choices, equipment recommendations, and troubleshooting common issues. Everyone receives a glass-jar starter, a complete kit with a banneton basket, lame, bench scraper, dough whisk, and mixing bowl, plus a comprehensive student guide of more than 50 pages filled with techniques, tips, and fixes. Each attendee takes home a freshly baked loaf and dough prepared to bake the following day. The class wraps up with time to enjoy fresh sourdough treats together. Space is limited, and the host asks that availability be confirmed before submitting payment.

The poker run features motorcycles, classic cars, and hot rods, with fees set at $25 per entry, $15 for an additional passenger, and $25 for a classic car or hot rod. Prizes are awarded to the three best poker hands. Runners can take part in the SVFC 5K or opt for a fun run on local streets. The festival offers live music by The Phil Engel Band, complimentary inflatable attractions for children, food along with beer and wine available for purchase, displays of firefighting equipment, demonstrations by police K9 and motorcycle units, extrication and fire demonstrations, and a range of craft and community vendors with more to discover.
