    Hana Stretton and more

The Perch Music & Arts Community, 2321 Emerald St, Philadelphia · verified Oct 2
    See details

Co-presented with Clavius Productions, this program at The Perch Music & Arts Community in Philadelphia features performances by Hana Stretton, Jana Horn, and Danielle Nia. British and Australian artist Hana Stretton is a composer, singer, and producer recognized for spacious, warmly textured recordings. Her debut album, Soon, drew dedicated listeners around the world, then Phil Elverum reissued it on his own label the following year and publicly praised its quietly flourishing spirit. Her forthcoming album, tiarn, shifts the focus from inland terrain to the Pacific, weaving in subtle classical and electronic elements, with vinyl editions planned through PW Elverum & Sun in North America, brierfield flood press in Australia, and Lima Limo in Europe and the UK. Jana Horn is a writer and musician from Texas now based in Brooklyn. After the reissue of her debut, Optimism, she released two full-length albums on No Quarter. Her self-titled record, made at Sonic Ranch in West Texas, traces her move from Charlottesville, where she was in the University of Virginia’s Creative Writing MFA, to New York City. The New Yorker has noted kinship in her music with figures such as Young Marble Giants, Syd Barrett, and Broadcast, and she received the Halifax Ranch Prize in 2026 for her story “The Woman,” forthcoming in American Short Fiction. Philadelphia-based composer and performer Danielle Nia delves into electronic and experimental sound, drawing on electronic music, jazz, classical traditions, global styles, and chiptunes. Her work blends modular and keyboard synthesis with composition, mallet percussion, improvisation, computer programming, and circuit bending to shape a distinctive meeting of technology and artistry. Accessibility note: the venue has a street level entrance, but there are two steps to the restroom.

    See details

Musica Sacra brings the 2026 edition of its immersive SurRound series to the Cathedral of St. John the Divine in New York City, placing listeners within the Cathedral’s Gothic nave as singers move through the space. The performance unfolds beneath Gaia, a 23-foot illuminated globe by U.K. artist Luke Jerram that rotates and presents NASA imagery of Earth, creating an experience New York Classical Review has likened to being enveloped in the music. Organized into three chapters titled Splendor and Interconnection, Lament and Fracture, and Reconciliation and Renewal, the music draws on texts from Rainer Maria Rilke and on traditional Quechuan and Navajo. Selections include Now I Walk in Beauty, Astronaut Anthem, Sancti Dei omnes from the Medici Codex of 1518, Infinite Oceans from The Essence of Gravity, Prière de la Baleine from Choral de Bêtes, Die Erste Elegie, Earth Song, and the sparrow, A Song on the End of the World from Eternal Reflections, Take Peace, and Hanacpachap Cussicuinin. Sylvan Esso

    Franklin Music Hall, 413 N 7th St, Philadelphia · verified Oct 4

WXPN welcomes Sylvan Esso to Franklin Music Hall in Philadelphia for an all ages show. The duo of Amelia Meath and Nick Sanborn is known for a vivid mix of pop hooks and exploratory electronics, a sound sharpened during the quick, inspired sessions that produced their fourth album, No Rules Sandy, in 2022. That period marked a shift toward bolder textures and a freer, more immediate approach that captures who they are at their core. Their recent work highlights this spirit, from the layered pulse of Your Reality, with a "No Rules Sandy" refrain and a string arrangement by Gabriel Kahane, to the kinetic rush of Sunburn and the shimmering pop of Didn’t Care. Echo Party leans into deep synth wobble and subtle nods to 90s electronic music, balancing bright, dance-floor momentum with shadowy undertones. Across the album, personal snippets like voicemails, birdsong, and children’s voices thread the tracks together into a seamless, diary-like flow. Sylvan Esso remains a tight-knit duo while continuing to broaden its world, from the expansive WITH concert in 2019 to the launch of their label Psychic Hotline in 2021, along with collaborative projects The A’s and Made of Oak with GRRL in 2022. Please note that ticket transfer for this event is delayed, and AXS Resale will not be available right away and may open later.
