Meier learned his craft in Switzerland, later moving to North America and establishing his cheesemaking in Fort Covington, New York. Halloumi is a Mediterranean-style cheese that resists melting, so it holds its shape on the grill or in a hot pan. When cooked it develops a crisp, browned exterior while staying firm, salty, and slightly squeaky inside. For a quick preparation at home, slice it into half-inch slabs, brush with olive oil, sear over high heat, then finish over medium until nicely charred on both sides. MJT brings its boundary-blurring, high-energy jams to The Java Barn. The group is made up of three brothers from Long Island whose onstage chemistry fuels a sound built on dual keyboards with synth bass, hard-hitting drums, and atmospheric guitar work and vocals. They have performed alongside Slash and Myles Kennedy, Alter Bridge, and Sevendust, and have also backed artists such as Yellowman, Stonebwoy, and Tash Neal.

A late fall meditation and cello sound bath offers a calming space for reflection, grounding, and deep rest, guided by Alisa G. Woods, PhD, LMHC, a licensed psychotherapist and sound healer, with musician Benjamin Mambou, a guitarist and African world-music artist. Over the course of 90 minutes, the experience begins with a guided practice that settles the body and quiets the mind, encouraging presence, ease, and connection. Participants then recline to receive a live sound bath featuring a blend of cello and guitar with sanza, Tibetan and crystal bowls, and African seed percussion, creating a restorative atmosphere that supports mindfulness, renewal, and gentle reconnection with self. The closing segment, Cello Sounds of the Adirondacks, presents an original, grant-supported project that explores how music relates to nature and place. Now in its 23rd year, the Festival of the Trees organized by the Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center Auxiliary takes place at the Freight House in Ogdensburg. Experience a 90-minute immersion in sound healing that blends Native American flute, cello, and frame drum with Emotional Freedom Techniques to support calming of the mind, body, and spirit. The session begins with gentle EFT tapping guided by Alisa to settle the nervous system and create space for deeper ease. A quiet meditation follows with soothing flute tones, complemented by rain stick and subtle percussion for a grounded, restorative atmosphere. The journey continues with expansive cello sound healing enhanced by frame drum and light percussion, offering a harmonizing sound bath aimed at balance and inner calm. Participants can recline with eyes closed on provided yoga mats, blankets, and bolsters, or sit comfortably, and are welcome to bring personal items for added comfort. Dr. Caron Collins, Professor Emerita of music education from The Crane School of Music, SUNY Potsdam and former Adjunct Instructor of Frame Drum, brings decades of instrumental teaching and community music-making, along with peace-building practices from Musicians Without Borders. Her current focus includes improvisation on Native American flute, Persian frame drumming, and indigenous and environmental percussion. Alisa Woods, Ph.D., LMHC, is a behavioral neuroscientist and licensed mental health counselor, as well as a lifelong cellist who integrates classical training, nervous system science, and sound therapy. She studied sound therapy with Elizabeth Byrd and cello with Christian Hosmer and founded Melodic Minds, a NYSCA-funded program celebrating neurodivergent musicians. Registration is $25. A holiday concert presented by the Plattsburgh State Gospel Choir brings soulful sounds and global rhythms to Giltz Auditorium. The SUNY Plattsburgh Gospel Choir shares the stage with Shidaa Project of Montpelier, Vermont, highlighting West African dance, drumming, and traditional arts. The program is hosted by Dr. Vincent Carey, a SUNY Plattsburgh history professor from Ireland whose scholarship focuses on the social, intellectual, and colonial history of early modern Europe. Under the artistic leadership of Dr. Dexter L. Criss and Andrea D. Ogle, the choir offers its hallmark blend of traditional and urban gospel, contemporary Christian music, and Caribbean and Afrocentric influences. A 50-voice ensemble performs with a five-piece band featuring jazz percussionist Keith Gibson, guitarist Jeff Wheel, conga player Chris Shacklett, keyboardists Dexter Criss and Jonathan Ellwanger, and bassist Morris Norelus. The program features holiday selections such as Whitney Houston’s take on "Joy to the World," Broadway Inspirational Voices renditions of "Great Joy" and "Have You Heard About the Baby," Sister Act’s "Joyful Joyful," and Patti LaBelle’s "Are You Ready for a Miracle." Featured vocalists include student soloists Lexi Woodward, Candance Nelson, and Kimolie Heslop together with community members Barbara Criss, Gina Lindsey, Barbara Jackson, and Jimmy Canales. The choir’s Praise Dancers add dynamic movement throughout the program, and a carol sing-along with a Holiday Ensemble, accompanied by classic arrangements from Jonathan Ellwanger, sets the tone. Shidaa Projects, Inc., a Vermont-based drum and dance troupe, promotes cultural understanding through West African traditions. Their work includes school residencies, workshops, public performances, and a summer camp with hands-on experiences such as drum making, Adinkra fabric printing, beading, and traditional cooking for participants of all ages. Admission is offered at student and general rates with early bird, advance, and door options. Children age 4 and under receive free entry when sharing a seat with an adult.

At The Lincoln Loft, Psychic Medium Chanel Russell leads a gallery-style reading focused on making connections with loved ones in spirit and sharing messages meant to reassure and comfort. The setting emphasizes a peaceful, uplifting experience. Because it is a group format, attendees hear messages for others and may receive one themselves, although a reading for every person is not guaranteed.
