The opening reception for Portrait of a Community introduces a group exhibition by five portrait artists who honor their community through distinct mediums and perspectives. Shaun O’Connell works in colored pencil, Naomi Bradshaw in charcoal, Kaitlyn Jubert in graphite, Cynthia Root in watercolor and acrylic, and June Levenson in oil. Over several years, the artists met with local subjects during shared sittings, then completed the portraits independently using photographs from those sessions. The sitters included people they knew as well as new acquaintances, whose openness helped shape a collection that highlights the talent and diversity around them. Some works took months to complete, and together they offer multiple viewpoints that come together as a cohesive whole.
