Woodland Cemetery and Arboretum, 118 Woodland Ave, Dayton · verified Sep 27
    See details

Explore a lantern-lit walk through the cemetery in near darkness, featuring true crime histories from Dayton. The tour visits the graves of victims and alleged perpetrators while recounting cases that include a deathbed confession in the killing of 18-year-old Christine Kett, claims that Rose Shafor disguised herself as a man to assist a lover in committing a crime, lingering questions around the death of Julius Kruse, and speculation about whether the Cincinnati Ripper once lived in Dayton. The stories include factual accounts of murders with graphic detail and may not be suitable for all audiences. The experience lasts about two hours and can be physically demanding. It is not recommended for children, older adults, or anyone who may find long walks over hilly, uneven grass challenging. Meet at Eichelberger Plaza by the cemetery’s main gates. Parking is available inside and outside the gates. Wear comfortable walking shoes and consider bringing water. Tours proceed rain or shine, pausing only if there is thunder or lightning. Reservations are required, and a suggested donation of $10 supports the Woodland Arboretum Foundation. Contributions aid restoration, preservation, horticultural, and educational projects that help ensure Woodland remains a cultural resource for Dayton and Ohio.

    John Waite

Taft Theatre, 436 Sycamore St, Cincinnati · verified Sep 27
    See details

English singer and songwriter John Waite returns to Cincinnati for a performance at Taft Theatre, with John Cafferty & The Beaver Brown Band supporting. For nearly half a century he has paired a distinctive, soulful voice with sharp songwriting about longing, resilience and everyday life, continuing to write, record and tour with the drive of an artist still in pursuit of the next great song. Waite first made his mark with The Babys, singing and playing bass on hits like Isn't It Time and Every Time I Think of You, then Back on My Feet Again, before launching a solo career that rose with Ignition and peaked globally with No Brakes. Missing You became a defining single of the MTV era and reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100. A 2006 duet version with Alison Krauss spent 21 weeks on the Hot Country Songs chart. The track has found fresh momentum through Harlan Coben's Netflix thriller Missing You, igniting social sharing, landing on prominent Spotify and Apple Music playlists, and climbing to No. 12 on the iTunes charts. It now counts more than 275 million plays on Spotify and 75 million views on YouTube. He returned to the top of the charts as frontman of Bad English with When I See You Smile, which helped send the group's debut to multi-platinum status. His songs have appeared across film, television and gaming, from True Romance, About Last Night and Vision Quest to Warm Bodies, Anchorman 2 and Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, and they have fueled national advertising such as a Hanes campaign. Across more than a dozen solo releases he has blended rock, folk, country and blues while continuing to evolve, a journey captured in the 2022 documentary John Waite: The Hard Way. Onstage he treats favorites and deep cuts as living work, reshaped by experience and time. This performance brings that enduring voice and catalog to Taft Theatre.

Eastwood Lake, Dayton · verified Sep 27
    See details

The ORRRC Outdoor X 12-Hour Endurance Run & RUCK brings a full-day challenge to Eastwood Lake within the Outdoor Experience expo. Also known as OX12, this time-based event invites runners and ruckers to complete a flat loop of more than 2.6 miles as many times as possible. The surface is primarily grass and doubletrack trail, with a small portion on bike path. The marked route includes the roped drop bag area near the scoring table and the restrooms as part of the official course space. Success is measured by distance covered in twelve hours. To earn finisher status, participants remain on course for the entire duration and must still be moving at the end. Laps are counted and a timing system tracks total mileage. A headlamp or flashlight is needed at the start. On-course support includes an aid station at the start and finish with Tailwind Performance drink, water, chips, pretzels, PB&J and other snacks, plus a roped drop bag area for quick changes and refueling without stepping off the course. Those who stay out the full twelve hours receive a finisher award, and anyone surpassing 35 miles may request an engraved mileage award for later pickup. Awards are presented to the top three finishers in both the women’s and men’s divisions, with ties decided by who reaches the line first on the final lap. Guide dogs and guide runners may assist visually impaired athletes, and all guides and pacers must sign a waiver. Parking is adjacent to the campground, but the handicapped lot and the Subaru lot are reserved for those who qualify. Event shirts are available only at packet pickup and are not mailed. Volunteer opportunities are available. Race director: Lawrence Chow, OX12RD@gmail.com.

    The Filthy Heathens

Yellow Cab Tavern, 700 E 4th St, Dayton
    See details

The Filthy Heathens bring a fired-up blend of Southern grit, alt edge, classic country, and hard rock to Yellow Cab Tavern. Sparked by the early chemistry among Bronson Hetzer, Ryan Palcic, and “Captain” Craig Bishop, the group quickly rounded out its ranks with guitarists Cody Doench and Dawson Stepp, forming a five piece that wastes no time. Their songs nod to names like Skynyrd, Waylon, Blackberry Smoke, and The Steel Woods, yet land in a lane all their own with a raw, road-seasoned sound. On stage they hit the accelerator, and audiences often rise to meet that energy as attention shifts from screens to the music in the room. The catalog includes the debut EP Etheridge, featuring the singles Tupelo Sun and Devils Like Me, along with The Muscle Shoals Session, a stripped down, live recording captured at Muscle Shoals Sound Studio that reflects the punch and presence of their concerts.

    Wellspring Elder Circle

Daniel's Peace Memorial Park, Germantown · verified Sep 27
    See details

The Wellspring Elder Circle gathers people stepping into the second half of life, a phase many traditional, spiritual, and Indigenous cultures honor for growing wisdom, service, mentorship, and a deeper sense of purpose. Different communities mark this passage in their own ways. Many recognize women entering after menopause, and many see men moving into it later in life, often around ages 50 to 55, as attention shifts from achievement toward legacy, guidance, and community. More than a number, eldership is viewed as a calling, an invitation to share lessons learned, continue personal growth, support others, and nurture meaningful connection and purpose. Those who feel drawn to this season through age, life experience, or a wish to grow, connect, and contribute are welcome in this circle. This session takes place at Daniel's Peace Memorial Park and is hosted by Yolee Day Spence.

    See details

Take a lantern-lit walk through the cemetery in near darkness to explore true crime stories from Dayton’s past. The route visits the graves of victims and perpetrators while recounting cases connected to Christine Kett, Rose Shafor, and Julius Kruse, and it even considers whether the Cincinnati Ripper once lived in the city. These are factual accounts that include graphic details and may not be suitable for all audiences. The tour lasts about two hours and covers long distances over hilly, uneven grass, so it may be strenuous and is not advised for children, older adults, or anyone who has difficulty walking. Meet at Eichelberger Plaza by the main cemetery gates. Parking can be found both inside and outside the gates. Comfortable walking shoes are recommended, and bringing water is encouraged. Tours take place rain or shine, pausing only for thunder or lightning. Reservations are required. A suggested $10 donation supports the Woodland Arboretum Foundation and its restoration, preservation, horticultural, and educational work that helps keep Woodland a cultural resource for Dayton and Ohio.

Gem City Pinball League - Season 18

Canal Street Arcade and Deli, 308 E 1st Street, Dayton · verified Sep 27
    See details

Gem City Pinball League meets at Canal Street Arcade and Deli for a season of weekly match play and a two-tier finals. Players are grouped in threes or fours and play four randomly selected machines each week, earning points based on placement. The regular season spans eight weeks, followed by two finals nights. A cutoff from overall standings determines placement into A or B finals, and every participant qualifies for one of them. Finals formats and rules may be adjusted to fit league needs and the number of players. Attendance is important. There are no make-up weeks, but each player gets one drop week that removes their lowest weekly score from the season total. Missing three weeks leads to removal from that season’s rankings and ineligibility for the finals, though players may still continue to play for the remainder of the season and can rejoin officially next season if space is available. Special exceptions may be considered by league operators when they are notified promptly and the reasons are valid. Participation requires a one-time $20 fee per session, plus standard coin drop each week. Members are asked to check in on Mondays to confirm attendance. Respectful conduct is required. Final decisions by league directors are not open for debate, and failure to follow guidelines can result in disqualification or removal. Because pinball machines can experience mechanical issues, rulings related to malfunctions may involve restarting or ending a game, and participants are expected to handle these situations with patience and kindness.
