    Community Dog Walking

Columbus · Franklin County Dog Shelter & Adoption Center, 4340 Tamarack Blvd

    Free

Community members can help shelter dogs stretch their legs at the Franklin County Dog Shelter & Adoption Center. No preregistration is needed, and newcomers are welcome to drop in. This is an outdoor, weather dependent activity, and updates in case of inclement weather will be shared on the event page. The shelter regularly cares for hundreds of dogs, and each walk provides fresh air and one-on-one time outside the kennel. Staff will pair volunteers with an appropriate dog and provide waste bags, treats, and harness leads, so personal leashes and collars should be left at home. Upon arrival, check in at the registration table in the large, fully fenced walking yard behind the building. Wear comfortable, sturdy shoes and dress for the weather. This is a family friendly opportunity, with the primary dog walker required to be at least 18 years old. This activity is for shelter dogs only. Owned pets should remain at home unless a meet and greet is scheduled for a potential adoption. Those interested in fostering or adopting can speak with staff to learn more. Bringing a camera is encouraged for photos of adoptable dogs, and posts can include the hashtag #FCDSAdoptables. Donations of dog treats are especially appreciated. RSVPs are used to receive updates and reminders.

    Anna North

Columbus · Whetstone Branch Library, 3909 N High St

    Free

Anna North visits the Columbus Metropolitan Library’s Whetstone Branch for a conversation about her literary mystery Bog Queen. The program includes an author talk with audience Q&A, plus a book sale and signing. The Book Loft will sell copies on site, and attendees may bring books from home for signing or purchase them at the event. Admission is free, and because seating is limited, registration is requested. Bog Queen centers on Agnes, an American forensic anthropologist called to examine a strangely preserved body uncovered in a bog in northwest England. The remains are more than two thousand years old, yet their condition pulls her into the story of an Iron Age woman whose fate resonates across ages. Agnes must balance the interests of peat cutters hoping to profit and activists urging protection of the land, while the bog itself yields artifacts and unsettling histories. The narrative moves between England in the years after Brexit and the druidic world of ancient Celtic Europe, connecting two gifted young women across time in a landscape steeped in mystery. Written by the New York Times bestselling author of Outlawed, the novel is a national bestseller. North’s earlier books include America Pacifica and The Life and Death of Sophie Stark. She is a senior correspondent at Vox and lives in Brooklyn.
