Kent’s Art in the Park Festival brings a showcase of creativity to Fred Fuller Park, the city’s oldest and largest park, surrounded by tall trees and paths along the Cuyahoga River. The Kent Community Timebank is among the most active in the United States, and this session covers everything needed to become a member. Participation is open to people who do not live in Kent. Away from the stage, he created a rock themed bonus crossword for The New York Times and was named by its readers among the greatest living American songwriters.

Twilight Weekend at the Farmstand 2.0 returns after the first edition drew a big turnout and plenty of enthusiasm from fans. Hex Hollow Homestead will transform into a moody, misty corner of Forks, Washington, creating an immersive setting inspired by the Twilight saga. At The Kent Stage, hear the story and songs of Noel Paul Stookey, known to millions as the Paul in Peter, Paul and Mary. His journey began in Birmingham, Michigan, where a passion for jazz, pop, and comedy led to a high school R&B group called The Birds of Paradise. At Michigan State University he became a familiar emcee, then moved to New York in 1959 and found a home in Greenwich Village as a singer and master of ceremonies at the Gaslight Cafe. A meeting there with manager Albert Grossman connected him with Peter Yarrow, and, after adopting Paul as a middle name, the trio took shape. With a debut in 1962 and two more hit releases soon after, they helped fuel the 1960s folk revival and carried messages of peace and social justice to a generation of rock and roll fans. Not long after early nights at the Bitter End, they sang at the Lincoln Memorial before a quarter million people during the March on Washington alongside Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., a day Stookey later called deeply awakening. The trio’s bond felt like family on and off stage. Performing more than 200 shows annually, they shared both traditional and newly written songs around the world and earned five Grammy Awards, 13 Top 40 singles with six reaching the Top 10, plus eight gold and five platinum albums. In 1969 Stookey experienced a renewed spiritual focus that shifted his energies closer to home. When the group stepped back the following year for what they called seven years off for good behavior, he released his first solo album, which included Wedding Song, written for Peter Yarrow’s marriage to Marybeth McCarthy. Now in its third year, this juried showcase gathers many of the region’s talented artisans and their handmade creations. The market expands across the Cuyahoga Falls Cultural Corridor through a partnership with Pilgrim United Church of Christ, creating more room for vendors and a bigger experience across two days. Activities take place indoors at the Jenks 1929 Building, featuring a cocktail meet and greet and an introduction to Pilgrim, followed by time to browse artisan booths, enjoy live entertainment, and sample offerings from food vendors in a festive holiday marketplace.
