    Tuning Forks Workshop

2519 Tart Cherry Ln, Kent · verified Aug 30
    See details

This 90-minute workshop at Shine introduces tuning forks as a sound and vibration modality that supports the nervous system and helps the body let go of built-up stress, tension, and energetic patterns. It offers a calm, receive-only setting that aims to cultivate lightness, clarity, and a sense of reset. It is well suited for anyone feeling overstimulated or tense, those curious about sound healing or energy work, or anyone who wants to explore tuning forks before committing to more in-depth training. No prior experience is needed. Led by instructor Auburn Juliano-Herchek, the experience includes a brief overview of how tuning forks work, a 75-minute sound balancing session for the group, guided meditation, and restorative savasana. There is time at the end to integrate, share reflections, and ask questions. The workshop complements the Tuning Forks Certification and fits within Shine’s broader learning pathway for sound. This approach emphasizes frequency and resonance rather than talking or effort, inviting the body to release what it is ready to release naturally.

Kung Fu – Tien Shan Pai (Northern Style)

    300 N Water St, Kent · verified Aug 30
    See details

Learn Tien Shan Pai, a Northern style of Kung Fu that blends agile footwork, deceptive movement, and adaptable fighting principles. Instruction balances traditional foundations with practical application so skills are usable in real situations. Training covers both open-hand work and weapon forms to build coordination, structure, and intent, using tools such as the stick, Chinese broadsword, fan, quan dao, sash whip, and staff. Weapons work is used to sharpen distance, timing, and body mechanics that carry directly into empty-hand ability rather than for performance. Core study includes chin na for joint control, sanda for striking and grappling under pressure, and tactics for dealing with multiple attackers. Everything is trained against resistance and uncertainty so participants learn not just techniques, but how to apply them when things get chaotic. The system is defensive and non linear, with strikes, kicks, and takedowns concealed within blocks, evasions, and positional changes. The emphasis is on efficiency, adaptability, and control, meeting force without colliding head on. There are no uniforms. Practice is done in everyday clothing to reflect real-world conditions and prioritize function over appearance. Students are encouraged to bring prior martial arts or movement experience so the curriculum can adapt to the individual. The result is a living, functional approach to Kung Fu that honors tradition while being tested in reality. Open to the whole community. Pricing options include a $70 monthly membership that also covers Tai Chi classes or a $15 drop in. Bring a friend to receive $5 off the drop-in rate. Proceeds support The Peaceful Warriors' Way. For more information, contact Brian Bowles, Founder of The Peaceful Warriors' Way, at (330) 298-5562.
