After the debut Tired Eyes Slowly Burning, the lineup expanded to include Dwayne Goettel and, over time, members of The Legendary Pink Dots, shaping a sound that merges Skinny Puppy’s intensity with the Pink Dots’ hallucinatory atmosphere. Percussionist Sammy DeLeon and pianist Jackie Warren lead a quartet with Kip Reed and Chris Burge for a live Latin jazz performance at B Side Lounge. DeLeon, a widely recognized timbales player in Northeast Ohio, started performing professionally at 13, worked with Cobra, Orquesta Charambo and Impacto Nuevo, and later led Sammy DeLeon y Su Orquesta, sharing stages with El Gran Combo, Tito Rojas and Tony Vega. He also mentors student percussionists in Latin rhythms. Warren, a Colorado native, studied classical piano at Oberlin Conservatory and earned an M.M. from Cleveland State University, then built a career in Cleveland as a soloist, bandleader and arranger. She leads a trio with Peter Dominguez and Ron Godale, performs salsa and Latin jazz with DeLeon’s orchestra, and has appeared with artists including David Fathead Newman, Clark Terry, Frank Morgan, Bobby Watson and the Cleveland Jazz Orchestra. Chasing Abbey brings a live set to Grog Shop from the award-winning trio hailing from Tullamore, Ireland, known for blending forward-thinking electronic production with the heart of Irish tradition. The group has earned multiple platinum singles and filled venues across Ireland and around the world with hits such as "Ars is Ars," "ornta," and "Oh My Johnny." Their latest release, "oronta," is climbing the charts and growing their international audience. Pitch in with the informal Casserole Crew as they prepare and bake casseroles for a meal supporting the Northeast Ohio Coalition for the Homeless. Recipes, tools, and aprons will be provided, so volunteers only need to bring themselves. Technique Fundamentals builds essential skills and concentrates on the slow tientos style to develop movement quality, along with tangos marking patterns and traveling steps. Beginner Repertory focuses on Sevillanas, unpacking the structure of this traditional choreography and offering ways to make it your own. New dancers and those revisiting Sevillanas can strengthen their foundation and practice in a supportive setting. Each class offers a full session option for $55, with a $15 drop-in rate. Instruction is led by Marie Carr, whose training began in classical ballet and modern dance at the School of Cleveland Ballet and Kent State University, with additional study through Cleveland-area workshops and master classes. Dana and Alden bring their Papas Boat tour to Grog Shop, celebrating a new album shaped by Dana’s earliest memories and far-flung travels. The record weaves family connections, friendships, and moments of musical growth into a sound that balances bold ambition with gentle nuance. Known for an eclectic, genre-fluid approach grounded in Dana’s saxophone and Alden’s drums, the duo draws from jazz while folding in threads of indie, pop, rap, funk, and more, a direction heard across 2023’s Quiet Music For Young People and 2025’s Speedo. Their creative restlessness traces back to their maternal grandfather, affectionately called Papa, a retired engineer who worked on the first Fairchild semiconductors and a devoted sailor. A photo from one of his trips to Asia, where he stands in worn jorts gazing toward the horizon beside a boat named Sŵn y Mr after the Welsh translation of Sound of the Sea, helped spark the album’s vision. The result favors openness and freedom over rigid boundaries, reflecting Papa’s spirit. Open to all ages.
