He mentors student percussionists in Latin rhythms, and his band is often called Sammy Salsa College. Pianist Jackie Warren, originally from Colorado, studied classical performance at Oberlin Conservatory with Sedmara Zakarian Rutstein, explored jazz arranging, composition, and theory with Wendell Logan, and continued jazz studies with Neal Creque and Kenny Davis. She earned an M.M. in classical piano performance from Cleveland State University with Andrius Kuprevicius and Daniel Barber and has been based in Cleveland since. Warren performs as a soloist, leads a trio with Peter Dominguez and Ron Godale, and arranges and plays salsa and Latin jazz with Sammy DeLeon y Su Orquesta. Her performance credits include David Fathead Newman, Clark Terry, Frank Morgan, Bobby Watson, Frank Foster, Jane Bunnett and the Spirits of Havana, Los Munequitos de Matanzas, Othello Molineaux, Donald Harrison, Gerald Wilson, Jimmy Heath, Impacto Nuevo, Humberto Ramirez, Cano Estremera, Tommy Olivencia, Tony Vega, Tito Rojas, Tito Puente, Jr., Hector Tricoche, Percy Sledge, King Solomon, the Tuscarawas Philharmonic, the Jazz Heritage Orchestra, the Cleveland Jazz Orchestra, and the Afro Cleveland Orchestra.
