Typical acoustic instruments include fiddle, concertina, guitar, bodhrán, tin whistle, flute, and mandolin. This is a musician centered session rather than a formal concert, though people in the park often pause to listen or relax nearby. The setting offers room for companions to wander among the trees and trails or spend time by the river, and it is an inviting place for a walk or picnic before or after the music. There is no strict end time, so tunes may continue if the energy is there, and food and drink options in downtown Tigard make for an easy stop afterward.

In 1974 he played a key role in making street performance legal again in Seattle after many years of prohibition. His touring history stretches across 13 countries, among them the United States, Canada, Ireland, the United Kingdom, much of northern Europe, and Taiwan. Seattle Metropolitan Magazine has counted him among the 50 most influential musicians in the city’s history. His songs have been interpreted by artists such as The Doobie Brothers, Christy Moore, Dick Gaughan, Michael Hedges, and Roy Bailey. Folk icon Utah Phillips praised him as the messenger who can deliver the message.
