Machine embroidery enthusiasts gather at the La Pine Grange for a three day series each month, building on a tradition that began in 2009 at the Homestead Quilt Store. The group welcomes experienced stitchers, newcomers learning embroidery machines, and those just starting to sew. Members bring their own projects, share works in progress, trade ideas, and learn new techniques, with plenty of laughter along the way. Everyone helps load and unload machines, and the atmosphere stays encouraging, creative, and friendly. Community giving is a regular focus. Handmade items are created and donated across La Pine, Crescent, and Bend, including pillowcases for veterans, baby blankets, and quilts for a range of organizations. Contributions also include peanut butter for Christmas food boxes, supplies for the local warming center, and essentials for the Grange such as toilet paper and paper towels. Over the years, support has reached schools, hospitals, neonatal intensive care units, women’s shelters, and warming centers, helping people of all ages stay warm during the colder months.

On Tuesdays, Deschutes Brewery contributes one dollar for each pint to a nonprofit partner. The beneficiary rotates monthly.

VTP and 1988 Entertainment present Spafford with an outdoor performance in the Volcanic Theatre Courtyard. Hosted by the Horner Cycling Foundation, this cyclocross series at the Athletic Club of Bend features off-road bike racing across mixed terrain with obstacles that may require carrying a bike. The course loops clockwise around the club for close to two miles and blends singletrack and loose dirt with two barriers, a sand pit that can turn muddy, brief stretches of pavement, and a few short, steep climbs. It welcomes first-time riders while still offering a solid challenge for seasoned competitors. Racers complete as many laps as they can within a set race duration based on the category they choose. Young riders can take part in a Kiddie Crit for ages 0 to 8, and there is a juniors-only race for ages 9 to 11 on a modified course, followed by time for a pre-ride. There are no entry fees for individual races or for the series. Donations from participants and spectators are encouraged to help cover event costs, with any additional funds supporting the foundation’s ongoing programs. All participants must register through OBRA and hold an OBRA membership. Single-race and annual memberships are available online and at the race, and day-of registration is offered on site under the OBRA tent.
