Lucky Paws Rescue is led by animal lovers and advocates who save pets at risk of euthanasia, ensuring they are spayed or neutered, vaccinated, treated, and cared for in foster homes until they find a permanent family. During the event, $1 from every beverage sold will be donated to support the rescue, and each adopted pet will head home with a PublicHouse toy. At The John G. Shedd Institute for the Arts, National Geographic explorer Dr. Jeffery B. Johnson shares firsthand experiences from volcanic sites on every continent, highlighting how field scientists investigate some of Earth’s most powerful forces. Through vivid accounts that range from glowing lava lakes and rivers of molten rock to sudden blasts and destructive debris flows, he explains how close-up observations help reveal how volcanoes operate. Johnson’s research focuses on active and effusive systems, where he measures earthquakes, sound waves, ground deformation, heat and gas emissions, and uses drones to study craters. A professor of geophysics at Boise State University, he mentors students who design and build instruments for volcano monitoring, bringing an expedition-driven perspective to this in-depth talk.
