The Sound Healing Symphony at the World Forestry Center

World Forestry Center, 4027 SW Knights Blvd, Portland · verified Oct 11
    See details

At the World Forestry Center in Portland, the country’s largest sound bath gathering brings together world-class meditative musicians for an immersive evening of sound designed to ease the mind and body. Participants recline while waves of tone from gongs, crystal and Tibetan singing bowls, Native American flutes, didgeridoo, Celtic harp, monochord, vibraphone and more fill the space, creating a deeply soothing, almost dreamlike atmosphere. The experience takes place indoors, with gardens just outside. Presented by Sound Meditation Presents, a nonprofit focused on making the healing power of sound accessible through concerts, education and a sound bath app, this program grows from a decade of work that includes 185 performances for more than 60,000 people, with plans to expand nationwide next year. Sound meditation, also known as sound healing or a sound bath, uses gentle, resonant tones to invite profound relaxation and clarity, and can be especially supportive for those who find traditional meditation difficult. The symphony is conducted by Guy Douglas, a longtime gong master and sound healing practitioner who performs on singing bowls and gongs and serves as an executive director of the organization. The ensemble features Russell Feingold on didgeridoo and Native American flute, a shamanic sound healer and author with decades of experience in Peruvian shamanism and holistic practices. Harpist Matthew Tutsky appears as principal with the Oregon Symphony, Portland Opera and Oregon Ballet Theatre. Cellist Elizabeth Byrd trained at Juilliard, has performed with major ensembles including the Metropolitan Opera and the London Festival Orchestra, and helped pioneer Tonal Vibration Therapy with Dr. John Upledger before founding the Academy of Cello Sound Healing. Vocalist Jeffri Lynn Carrington brings classical training and international performance experience. Simona Asinovski performs on monolina and vibraphone and, as an executive director of the organization, focuses on sharing this practice of deep rest and restoration. Guests are encouraged to wear warm, comfortable clothing and to bring a water bottle, a yoga mat and a blanket, with an optional pillow to create a cozy setup that supports deeper relaxation. Volunteer opportunities are available for those unable to afford admission. This event is not recommended for anyone with a history of seizures, and it is not suitable for children under 12 or for pets. Those who require the assistance of a service animal or need disability accommodations should contact the organizers in advance. Expect to leave with a clearer mind and a renewed appreciation for the power of sound.

    See details

Part of The Three Wishes Tour, this Portland show brings together Amélie Farren, Lilith Max, and Rabbitology for a showcase of narrative-driven music. Amélie crafts alt-folk and alt-pop that captures vivid, close-up moments; her releases range from the widely streamed suffering and Unsweetened Lemonade to the album Airheaded, produced by Michael Keenan in Los Angeles, and the EP Infanescence, which reflects on how time reshapes a person. With a background in acting, her performances carry a cinematic flair, full of motion and shifting intensity. Rabbitology, the project of Nat Timmerman, invites listeners into an eccentric sonic world where personal memoir becomes fantastical short stories and eclectic textures lead the way. REZN - Cycles in the Infinite Dream Tour at Polaris Hall

Polaris Hall, 635 N Killingsworth Ct, Portland · verified Oct 11
    See details

Chicago quartet REZN brings its Cycles in the Infinite Dream tour to Polaris Hall, showcasing a sound that blends massive, heavy riffs with shimmering melody and atmosphere. Known for carving out a distinctive place in heavy music, the band has evolved through contrasting works like Solace and Burden, refining how weight and beauty collide. Their newest album dives into the threshold between waking life and the subconscious, drawing on dream logic as both lyrical thread and musical compass. The group describes a pseudo-waking state that can serve as escape or confinement, and the music mirrors that duality by pulling listeners into a space that feels familiar yet strangely altered, like stepping into a memory whose angles have subtly shifted. REZN’s lineage in expansive metal and free-ranging psychedelia meets a focused, intentional approach here, creating immersive textures and celestial hooks that suggest altered states without losing clarity. Open to all ages.

    Dinosaur Jr.

Revolution Hall, 1300 SE Stark St, Portland · verified Oct 11
    See details

Dinosaur Jr. brings fresh energy with There Near, a new studio album and the sixth since the band reunited two decades ago. Crafted in concentrated sessions at Amherst’s Bisquiteen Studio, it features the core trio of Murph on drums, Lou Barlow on bass and vocals, and J Mascis on guitar and vocals, with piano and organ contributions from Ken Mauri. The music tears forward with the group’s unmistakable blend of unguarded vocals, biting guitar lines, and a driving rhythm section, a noise pop approach that grew alongside Husker Dü and later helped shape bands like Nirvana. J’s guitar sound on this record is even more feral, powered in part by a 1970s Mesa Boogie Mark I amp that reconnects him with tones from the band’s earliest days. His lyrics lean intuitive and open to interpretation, often written in the third person, with meanings that reveal themselves over time. Some listeners may hear an upbeat delivery even when song titles hint otherwise. Tickets are on sale now.

Slow Pulp w/ Snuggle at Revolution Hall

1300 SE Stark St, Portland · verified Oct 11
    See details

Slow Pulp brings a set shaped by close-knit chemistry and a vividly visual approach to songwriting. The Wisconsin-rooted, Chicago-based quartet translates textures, motion, and moods into sound that captures feelings that are hard to pin down. Their second full-length, Yard, and first on ANTI-, explores solitude, self-acceptance, and the balance of trusting and leaning on others. The music often places weighty themes inside bright, catchy frames, as heard in Doubt, where darker lyrics ride an upbeat, almost playful energy. Collaboration sits at the core of their process, from rebuilding a song at the last moment into a new version called Gone 2 to chasing the exact vibe of a track by drawing inspiration from a muted music video. The result is a live experience that blends nuance, contrast, and an instinct for turning shared emotion into sound.

Rose City Elite Series Monthly Tournaments

Rose City Adult Volleyball, 199 NE 92nd Ave, Portland · verified Oct 11
    See details

This monthly stop on the Rose City Elite Series brings competitive indoor volleyball to Rose City Adult Volleyball in Portland, featuring an eight team field, guaranteed round robin play, playoffs for every team, and prizes plus season points that count toward a year end award. Enter by texting Mikal at 503-380-4539 with your team name and roster, or note that you are signing up as an individual. Solo players and small groups will be grouped into one or two independent teams based on turnout. After your spot is confirmed, payment can be sent through the available methods. The team fee is $280 for six to seven players, and the individual fee is $50 per player. If a roster is short, assistance is available to connect teams with free agents. Every team meets once in a round robin for seven guaranteed matches, each played to 21 and won by two with a time cap. Teams that are sitting provide one referee and two line judges, with line judges focused on in or out and antenna calls. All teams advance to the playoffs, seeded by round robin results, then head to head, then net points, with a coin flip if still tied. Teams that lose in the semifinals or earlier continue in a bracket that determines third and fourth place between the semifinals and the final. Early playoff rounds are best of three to 21 with deciding sets to 15 and time caps, and the championship is best of three to 25, 25, and 15. The final may be moved to center court depending on how much time remains. Matches follow USA Volleyball rules with house clarifications. Rally scoring is used, let serves are legal, servers must rotate, and net contact is a fault other than incidental hair or clothing. Respect the center line and avoid crossings that are dangerous or that obstruct an opponent’s play. Lifts and carries are enforced. For second contacts, multiple body touches are allowed as one action if the next touch is by a teammate. On this court, a ball that touches the ceiling or overhead objects on your side stays live, but if it then crosses the net the rally is dead. Walls and wall mounted structures, including basketball hoops, are out of play. Team composition is flexible. Rosters can be coed or single gender, and for balance teams are asked to limit themselves to one AA or A level player. Rosters must be finalized in advance and only listed players may compete unless an injury requires a substitute who understands the rules. Because space is limited, prompt payment is encouraged and unpaid entries may lose a spot after notice once capacity is reached. All participants must have a current waiver on file before the tournament, and team photos are taken around the first match. Concessions such as sports drinks, water, protein bars, and assorted snacks are available for purchase. Keep food off the courts and eat in the foyer or outdoors. Spectators are welcome, should follow the same food and cleanup guidelines, handle venue chairs with care, and put them away when finished. Do not sit on bleachers that are not fully extended. Warmups should take place outside the playing area, and the schedule is tight, so avoid delays. After a warning, unnecessary delays can result in a loss of rally. Unsportsmanlike conduct toward players, officials, volunteers, or spectators may lead to penalties or removal. No alcohol, tobacco, or vaping is permitted. Officiating expectations apply throughout. Calls by officials are final, and yelling at an official or judge carries an automatic point penalty. Teams assigned to officiate are expected to fulfill those duties or arrange coverage. Failure to do so can result in forfeited sets, loss of potential prizes, deductions in series points, or a one tournament ban. Awards include prizes for the top three teams, plus MVP and Sportsmanship honors voted on by players and the supervisor. Champions are featured on the event banner and highlighted on Instagram. Results contribute to the Rose City Elite Series standings, with an additional award for the season champion.

SOUL'D OUT PRESENTS: JOHN SCOFIELD'S "ELECTROSPECTIVE"

Revolution Hall, 1310 SE Stark St, Portland
    See details

Presented by Soul’d Out at Revolution Hall, this performance spotlights John Scofield’s Electrospective, a project from the three-time Grammy winner that revisits the funk-infused side of his 54-year journey in jazz. Instead of recreating earlier favorites, Scofield brings fresh interpretations drawn from his Blue Matter, Uberjam, and A Go Go periods, alongside new pieces in a similar spirit. He appears with Scofield alum and drummer-producer Adam Deitch (Lettuce), keyboardist Larry Goldings (Scary Goldings, James Taylor), and bassist Oteil Burbridge (Dead & Co., Tedeschi Trucks Band, Allman Brothers). The program leans into the fusion grooves audiences often request, delivered by a lineup assembled to let the music speak.

Angine de Poitrine at Crystal Ballroom

    805 SE Sherman St, Portland
    See details

Angine de Poitrine brings a kinetic strain of rock to Crystal Ballroom in Portland, built on asymmetric rhythms, adventurous harmonies, and a driving pulse that sparks movement. Tight, propulsive drumming locks in with webs of double neck microtonal guitar, shaping trance-like spirals of sound and imagery. Since releasing Vol. 1 in 2024, the duo’s momentum has accelerated with attention from audiences, critics, and industry figures, highlighted by appearances at major festivals in Quebec such as the Festival International de Jazz de Montréal, and with eyes toward Trans Musicales in Rennes. The follow up, Vol. 2, keeps the energy brisk while sidestepping straightforward repetition. It leans into sharper, more dynamic structures, hides playful details for careful listeners, and draws power from acid techno, disco, and rock. Mata Zyklek races ahead on a resonant fifth and urgent tempo, whipping through quick turns like a tongue in cheek action chase capped by a dirtbike escape. Guided by space time travelers Klek and Khn de Poitrine, the performance nods to hot dogs, pyramids, and rock’s over the top spectacle. At the core, it is all about playing rock and roll.
