The Chernisky Ghost Town Trail-a-thon at Duman Lake County Park is part of the 2026 Cambria County Trails Series and supports enhancements to the Cambria County Trails and the Cambria County Firefighters Training Facility. The foot race features three distances. Marathon participants are shuttled to Ebensburg, then follow the Ghost Town Trail system back to the park, including the newer two mile C & I Trail extension through Revloc, the main stretch from Ebensburg to Vintondale, a right onto the Rexis Branch and C & I Extension, and a final link on the connector trail into the park. The 15 miler mirrors this route starting in Nanty Glo and finishing at the park. The 5k welcomes runners, walkers, and wheelers on an out and back that begins and ends at the park along the connector trail, primarily crushed gravel with brief paved sections and a couple of gentle climbs. Transportation is provided from the finish area at Duman Lake County Park to the starting points for the marathon and 15 miler. A lighthearted Couch Potato 0.0k offers a not so strenuous option where participants finish moments after the start. Cyclists can enjoy a relaxed 26.2 mile ride from the park to Twin Rocks and back using the Ghost Town Trail and C & I Extension. Riders may use the running course aid stations and are encouraged to carry water and snacks, and they can ride with the group or choose their own distance and pace. A commemorative long sleeve shirt is included for all who pre register. Every finisher, including those in the 0.0k, receives a medal. Prizes are planned for the top three male and female finishers in the marathon, 15 miler, and 5k, with additional top three male and female awards in the Athletes with Disabilities division for the 5k. Music and a post race meal await all runners, walkers, and cyclists.

Tackle a multisport challenge that follows the Conemaugh River and the West Penn Trail in the scenic, historic town of Saltsburg, Pennsylvania. The course features a 7-mile paddle on the Conemaugh River, a 15-mile bike ride from Saltsburg to the Conemaugh Dam, and a 5K run along the West Penn Trail. Compete as an individual or form a team of two or three. Solo participants must be at least 15 years old, and ages 12 to 14 may take part on a team as long as they do not complete the paddle segment on their own. E-bikes are not permitted. Awards recognize the top three male and female overall finishers in short and long boat classes, along with the top three male and female finishers in short and long boat age group classes. New fastest bike, paddle, and run honors will highlight the top male and female times across all participants. Overall award winners are not eligible for age group class awards.

New Florence Volunteer Fire Company #1 presents a community craft and vendor show as part of its Summer Craft & Vendor Show Series. Parishioners from St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Blairsville have operated a free laundry service for more than a decade, welcoming individuals and families who need help keeping clothing and linens clean, whether that need is ongoing or occasional. Volunteers can be identified by red Laundry Love or black Laundry is Liturgy T-shirts, and the event is hosted by E&F Norge Laundromat. The service is typically offered on the second Sunday of each month, unless that day is a holiday, and other times can often be arranged upon request. This effort is funded by the Episcopal Diocese of Pittsburgh and the Blairsville Ministerium, with additional support from local residents, churches, Facebook groups, and businesses that have donated quarters, detergent, and dryer sheets. A special thanks goes to Blairsville Alliance Church, whose Vacation Bible School filled four laundry baskets with individually decorated bags containing laundry pods, dryer sheets, and a Bible verse. Appreciation is also extended to the customers whose generosity, perseverance, and faith encourage this work each month.

This edition expands with a full day of back to back classes and immersive experiences for those who wish to participate. Now in its sixth year, Quarry Shack 5 Miler is a nighttime five mile out and back on the Ghosttown Trail’s Rexis Branch. The course begins just beyond the gate by the old train at the Rexis Trailhead, follows the trail for 2.5 miles, turns shortly after Red Mill Bridge, then returns to the start on a fully closed, road free route. Participants are asked to keep to the right except when passing to keep two way traffic smooth and safe. The outbound leg has a gentle, steady rise and the return brings an easy downhill. A personal light source is required, since the trail will be dark outside of limited official lighting near key areas. Expect festive Halloween scenes along the way and a clearly marked turnaround beside a pavilion and water station. Costumes are encouraged and there are no jump scares on course. A start and finish arch with Quarry Shack themed banners may be in place if conditions allow. Awards recognize the top three male and female finishers overall and age group winners in the run. The walk division honors the top three overall men and women with additional age categories, and those in that division must walk the entire distance. Children must complete the race under their own power to be considered for awards, and awards are not mailed. Day of registration is offered, with cash or check accepted on site. Every participant receives a custom bib and sticker, a chip timed finish, post race snacks, and plenty of photo opportunities. Trail cameras may capture night vision images on course, there is a photo area at the start and finish, and finish line video and photos will be shared online afterward. Accommodations are available with advance notice. Please bring what you need to see and be seen, and be courteous to others. Strollers are permitted if equipped with a light, headphones are allowed at a reasonable volume, and service animals are welcome while other pets are not permitted. Smoking, alcohol, and drug use are prohibited in all race areas, and everyone is asked to keep the trail clean by using the trash can near the aid station. Restrooms are a short walk from the parking area near the Eliza Furnace building. The race takes its name from the old quarry shack about 2.25 miles from the start, a local landmark that even appeared in scenes from The Boonies. Results will be posted online after the race, and event t shirts are available as an optional add on to be picked up in person.
