The focus is on observation and identification. The walk will proceed in any weather. Walk ins are not allowed. Foraging is not part of the activity and there will be no discussion of edibility. Eating wild mushrooms can be dangerous unless an expert has confirmed the species. Parking details will arrive in a reminder email. The gate will be open so vehicles can park inside the property, and roadside parking outside the property is not permitted.

Returning to the city that influenced his development after over twenty-five years, he will speak about coming full circle as an artist, the inspirations that drive his work, and the central place of community in his practice. Conversation topics include the relationship between ceramics and fine art, the connection between adornment and identity, and perspectives on Pittsburgh’s creative ecosystem for the next generation. Vanka educator Maggie Negrete leads a guided exploration of the flowers portrayed in the Murals, highlighting the symbolism Maxo Vanka embedded in each bloom. The experience then moves into a hands-on Tatakizome workshop with local fiber artist and gardener Amy Garbark, a fabric-printing approach that captures the fine textures and bright hues of flowers. Dayenu: It Would Have Been Enough is a solo exhibition by Pittsburgh fiber artist Louise Silk that marks a culminating moment in her practice. Building on a landmark retrospective at the Heinz History Center, this presentation gathers a completely new collection of hand-stitched works shown together for the first time. Art quilts, scrap quilts, flags, kaftans, portraits, and pillows are fashioned from repurposed fabrics, as Silk combines her own remnants with found textiles to weave memories and experiences into a unified visual story. The exhibition is grounded in Silk’s spiritual life, drawing from Jewish tradition and Zen Buddhism. Its title refers to the Passover Seder song Dayenu, a celebration of sufficiency and gratitude, and each quilt carries that spirit of thankfulness. Silk has created art quilts for decades, has exhibited across the United States, and has presented seven solo exhibitions, including a career retrospective at the Heinz History Center. She lives and works in the South Side and was recently featured in Art of Pittsburgh’s South Side. The gallery has expanded regular hours midweek and on weekends, with appointments available on Mondays and Tuesdays.
