A free summer storytime for children features Meghan, an enthusiastic local school teacher who leads little ones through a new favorite book each week. After the reading, families can pick up weekend groceries at their favorite store.

Enjoy a free family screening of A Bug's Life inside the historic Capitol Theatre at the Appell Center for the Performing Arts. Admission is free with no ticket required, and concessions will be available for purchase. Before the film, the Susquehanna Valley Theatre Organ Society provides preshow entertainment on the Mighty Wurlitzer organ.

Stop by the John Rudy Park demonstration gardens for a free, family-friendly open house. The event highlights the year-round 50-bed garden space, with everything from vegetable and native plant areas to a shade garden, children’s garden, historic tree arboretum, and an educational compost site. You can also check out kid-friendly make-and-take activities and games, interactive demonstrations around the gardens, a farmers market, 20+ community organizations, speakers, a garden shop, food trucks, and a free plant giveaway. There will be an Ask a Master Gardener booth, and the York County Food Bank will be collecting non-perishable food donations during the event.

A monthly meditation and open circle invites participants to settle in at Firefly Hollow Wellness Center for a guided, trauma-aware practice led by Firefly Hollow practitioners and occasional guest facilitators. The focus is on gentle relaxation, nervous system support, and genuine connection within an inclusive, welcoming space. Newcomers and experienced meditators are equally supported. Attendance is free, with optional donations appreciated. Each gathering features a distinct meditation or consciousness-based practice, with themes and facilitators evolving over the year. It also offers a window into the Conscious Connections Club, Firefly Hollow’s community-led social club centered on authentic relationships, meaningful conversation, personal growth, and mindful living. The club curates a mix of in-person and online experiences across the region, including meditations, game nights, themed discussions, social outings to wellness spaces and nature, livestreams and workshops, access to a private online community with schedules and recordings, partner discounts, and an expanding library of resources.

York Chess Club hosts chess sessions at In Between Pages, welcoming participants of all ages and every level of experience. Chess sets are provided for use during play.

Hosted by PAN, Sir Dominique Jordan and Shelby Speaks, this monthly music and poetry open mic from the Appell Center for the Performing Arts welcomes performers and listeners alike. Attend to support local creators or step up to share your own story. A free bi-monthly writing workshop is offered beforehand to help artists develop ideas and refine their work.

Scotty Dog’s Lounge & Grill hosts a weekly bingo night that is free to play with plenty of prizes. The atmosphere is lively, with food and drinks available as the games roll on.
