Charleston Folk presents a coastal contra dance weekend at Camp Saint Christopher on Seabrook Island, featuring dancing by the beach along with on-site meals and lodging for the full weekend. Tea & Whiskey features Karin McQuade on fiddle and vocals and Andrae Raffield on guitar and rhythm. Calling is led by Beth Molaro, an Asheville, NC teacher of traditional American dance who specializes in squares and contras, and Charlotte Crittenden, a Brasstown, NC dance caller connected with the John C Campbell Folk School and the Country Dance and Song Society. The gathering celebrates the music, memories, friendships, and community that have shaped Home Team over twenty years. Festivities span the weekend, beginning at Downtown Home Team and continuing at The Refinery. Presented by the Wassamasaw Tribe of Varnertown Indians, this men’s drumming class series is led by Kaya Littleturtle of the Warpaint Singers and emphasizes tradition, rhythm, and cultural protocol. Formal instructional classes are scheduled for the last Sunday of each month, with practice sessions in between to reinforce skills, consistency, and group cohesion.
