Free Play Friday invites families with children under 18 to enjoy child-led time in nature at Enterprise South Nature Park. Activities unfold based on kids’ interests and may include walking, climbing trees, splashing in water, or other simple adventures. The pace is easy for beginners, the distance varies, and restrooms are available. It is free to attend. Strollers and wheelchairs are welcome, with all-terrain options working best. Pets are not permitted, except for service animals. This is an all-weather gathering unless conditions become severe. Participants will meet at the start of the Poe Run Path, beside the parking areas across from the visitor center, not at the visitor center itself. All attendees must have a 2026 waiver on file. Forms for minors need to be completed by a legal guardian. Guardians are required to stay with and take responsibility for their children throughout. By taking part, attendees acknowledge the inherent risks of outdoor play and agree that facilitators and other members are not liable for injuries, illnesses, or lost or damaged property. A summer play day at Hidden Hills Farm & Saddle Club offers hands-on experiences all around the property. Children can ride a pony, see cows being milked, take a hayride to different activity areas, climb up on tractors, meet and pet friendly farm animals, wander along simple paths, splash in the creek, and enjoy wide open spaces for unstructured play with dirt and rocks. Plan to be away from your vehicle for at least an hour. The hayride shuttles groups from the farm entrance to various stops, and walking between areas is welcome. Expect about a quarter mile between most venues and roughly a half mile from the farthest stop back to the entrance. Strollers are welcome, although terrain is off road, and only one hay wagon can accommodate strollers. Restroom buildings are not available, but porta potties and water spigots are on site. Cell service on the farm is spotty, and the final hayride to the horses and the little farm departs before activities conclude, so allow enough time to catch it. All attendees must complete the farm’s online waiver each year, and it can be done in advance on the website. Admission is $15 total for the first child and adult, with each additional person $5. Cash or check is preferred, credit cards are accepted, and payment can also be sent via Venmo to Tara Hills at @HiddenHillsFarm. Prepayment by Venmo or credit card through the website is available, with no refunds, so complete it just before arriving and have proof of payment ready to show.

Commander Invitational Qualifier at Retro Tabletop
Retro Tabletop hosts a Commander Invitational Qualifier focused on high-level competition and a path to the Championship Event, where that tournament’s winner will earn an Unlimited Black Lotus. Entry is $50 and participation is capped at 72 players. A free TopDeck account is required to compete, submit decklists, and view pairings, and a Moxfield decklist must be provided. Proxies are permitted for this event. The tournament features up to four Swiss rounds lasting 80 minutes each, with five points awarded for a win and one point for a draw. Top players advance based on Swiss standings and proceed to elimination rounds. When time is called during Swiss, the active player finishes their turn and the game ends, a procedure that does not apply once elimination begins. This is a Competitive REL event with the MTR/IPG Addendum in effect, and Command Tower will be used for pairings and turn order. Prizing includes $40 from each entry added to the event prize pool and $10 from each entry contributed to the Invitational Championship prize pool. The event prize pool is guaranteed at $1,000, with the possibility of additional awards based on attendance and potential store-specific prizes. The opening stretch follows wide, soft, gently rolling pedestrian-only trails that set up the half marathon and form the entire 10K course. For the longer distance, the second half moves onto nontechnical bike trails that wind through a more remote part of this diverse, heavily wooded park. These trail races are among the fastest growing in the Southeast.

VFW PFC Travis F. Haslip Memorial Post 1697 presents a community physical activity at Veterans Memorial Park of Collegedale with a purpose to honor military service, build connections across the community, and strengthen both body and mind. This free gathering is open to all ages and all ability levels. Participants can choose a half mile Honor Walk that circles the park to the Veterans Memorial Mural and returns, a 5K ruck wearing a weighted vest, ruck, or backpack that loops the park and continues along the Wolftever Greenway to the Collegedale Dog Park before heading back, or a 5K walk that follows the same route. For those not taking part in the routes, a tent and information booth will be available for conversations with Veterans, Auxiliary Members, and families. Parking is available at the Ooltewah Youth Association Fields, Scooters Coffee, Collegedale Library, and Imagination Station. Participants blend powdered botanicals with natural binders to form cones suited for meditation, yoga, ritual, or simply bringing a sense of peace at home. The session includes discussion of the traditional uses of mullein and lavender, guidance on safe burning practices, and an overview of how herbal incense has been used across cultures to encourage mindfulness and connection. This beginner friendly class welcomes those new to herbal crafting as well as anyone looking to expand a home apothecary, connecting intention with handmade ritual aligned to the Full Moon. All materials are included, and registration is required. Designed for ages 13 and up, with participants under 18 accompanied by a registered adult. Attendees leave with 10 to 15 handmade mullein and lavender incense cones, a recipe and instruction guide, an herbal reference sheet, and a Full Moon reflection prompt. The fourth running of this gathering welcomes open boaters, single-bladers, raft guides, and kayakers who are here for water time and good vibes. It is an informal meet-up without official trips or river guides, so paddlers link up with friends or larger groups as they like and let conditions shape the day. Plans stay flexible, with the Ocoee as a core option and the Tellico on the table if levels come together. Expect an easy warm-up on the Middle Ocoee, a bigger day that links Upper and Middle, a choose-your-own-adventure day that could be Tellico, Ocoee, or whatever is in, and a final short lap before the drive home. The crew will set up basecamp at the AU Campground, and everyone is free to make their own lodging choices. AU lodging can be booked, or participants can opt for a nearby rental or a favorite local campground. Arrivals are staggered, with some rolling in earlier and others later, so there is plenty of room to settle in at your own pace. Evenings often bring relaxed hangs around the campsite or a visit to The Bus Bar for live local music, hearty food, and cold drinks, with the option to head back to camp early if rest is calling. Photos and video will be captured to share on The H² Experience YouTube channel, and attendees are encouraged to add their own highlights to mark year four on the water.

Charleston, Tennessee honors a piece of its agricultural past with the 14th annual International Cowpea Festival and Cook-off at a public park. Once a major grower and exporter of cowpeas, the community was known as the Cowpea Capital of the United States, and the festival shines a light on the legume scientifically referred to as avigna unguiculata. That umbrella includes black-eyed peas, field peas, crowder peas, southern peas, silver- and purple-hull peas, and cream peas, which first served as protein-rich livestock feed before becoming a staple on southern tables. The event features a cook-off with professional chefs presenting cowpea recipes, a marketplace offering arts and crafts, produce, and other locally made items, a children’s area, entertainment, a photo contest, food vendors, and a heritage area highlighting Cherokee, Civil War, and Wild River history connected to Charleston.
