Designed for children ages 2 to 4 and their accompanying adult, this hands-on art class invites each pair to add color to a large shared drawing using crayons and oil pastels. Young creators can explore color, make playful marks, and enjoy a welcoming studio setting alongside a parent or caregiver. When their section is finished, each child will cut out their portion to take home as a keepsake. All supplies are provided, and light refreshments such as coffee, juice, water, and a few sweets will be available during the session. The class runs for one hour, offering creative play, artistic discovery, and quality time together. Group size is limited to maintain a friendly, focused experience. At Victoria Phillips Studio & Gallery in Dalton, GA, this hands-on pottery class teaches participants how to create a ceramic mug featuring a flower handle using hand building techniques. Working with speckled brown stoneware, attendees shape, assemble, and personalize a functional mug suited to coffee, tea, or other beverages, then choose a glaze color during class. After the workshop, pieces will be bisque fired, finished with a food safe glaze, and glaze fired to cone 5, resulting in mugs that are microwave and dishwasher safe. Finished work will be ready for pickup in about four to six weeks. No prior ceramics experience is required. Space is limited, and registration closes one week before the class.

Mark Warren presents a program on how Indigenous peoples of the Southeast made use of native plants for nourishment, healing, natural insect repellents, crafting materials, and fire making. The session features demonstrations of techniques and lessons drawn from these traditions. Warren is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of the University of Georgia. Through Medicine Bow, his nationally known wilderness school in the mountains of Dahlonega, Georgia, he teaches nature study and primitive survival skills. His accolades include being named Georgia’s Conservation Educator of the Year by the National Wildlife Federation in 1980, a U.S. national championship in whitewater canoeing in 1998, and a world title in longbow in 1999. He has contributed widely to local and national magazines on nature topics and has studied Western frontier history for over fifty years, presenting at museums and cultural centers across the country. He is the author of 18 traditionally published books and has received honors from the Spur Awards, the Historical Novel Society, the Will Rogers Medallion Awards, among others. In 2022 he earned a Georgia Author of the Year Award for Song of the Horseman as a Literary Fiction finalist. Admission is free and the public is welcome.

Marking the 68th anniversary of the Vann House’s designation as a historic site, this celebration highlights everyday practices from the early 1800s among Cherokee people and Moravian missionaries. Throughout the day, demonstrations feature corn grinding, woodworking, leather britches, weaving and spinning, butter churning, doll making, the use of historic tools, hominy preparation, and displays with black powder rifles, among other activities. Archaeologist and historian Dane Roberts presents “The Cherokee-American War: the Struggle for Cherokee Sovereignty,” exploring the extended conflict from 1776 to 1794, often described as the longest war between Indigenous Americans and European colonizers, and its influence on the Cherokee Nation’s Golden Age and its later relationship with the newly formed American government. The presentation is included with admission and will take place in the Visitor Center theater. All activities are included with admission. Entry is $8 per person and is paid on site. Friends of the Vann House annual members receive free admission. There are no third-party ticket sales, and admission is purchased at the door on the day of the event. Programming occurs outdoors and is dependent on weather, and there is no rain date.

Ghost Noise presents an all-ages open mic at Lo-Fi Coffee Bar, welcoming singers, guitarists, artists using tracks or loopers, spoken word performers, and supporters of local talent. There are 10 performance spots available on a first-come, first-served basis, and each participant has up to eight minutes or two songs. Once all spots are filled, additional names will be placed on a waitlist, and those artists receive first priority for the next month’s open mic. Award-winning Georgia author Dr. Donna Coffey Little presents a talk inspired by her new historical novel, Wofford’s Blood: The Odyssey of a Cherokee Family. The program explores the real history behind the book through the life of James Daugherty Wofford, a mixed-race Cherokee child navigating rising conflict between Cherokee communities and Anglo-American society in early nineteenth-century north Georgia. It considers questions of loyalty and identity as he comes of age in a culture where racial slavery and its effects are becoming deeply embedded in daily life. Dr. Little is a Professor of English at Reinhardt University and the founder of Reinhardt’s Etowah Valley Low-Residency MFA in Creative Writing. Wofford’s Blood was published by Mercer University Press in 2024 and received recognition as Book of the Year from Southern Literary Review and Best Historical Novel of 2024 from the national Independent Press Association. Her publications also include the poetry chapbook Fire Street, as well as creative nonfiction, poetry, and scholarship in StorySouth, Tiferet, Georgia Backroads, Calyx, The Atlanta Review, The Florida Review, Women’s Studies, Modern Fiction Studies, and Contemporary Women’s Writing. Slide! Card Show: Pokemon, TCG & Sports
Returning to Dalton, the Slide! Card Show comes to the Edwards Park Auditorium with an expanded setup that uses both gyms. More than 110 vendors and 150 tables will showcase Pokémon, sports, One Piece, and other trading card games, creating a larger marketplace and trading experience for collectors. Two dedicated trading pits offer ample room to buy, sell, and trade. Admission and parking are free, and there are free hourly giveaways. A $25 VIP pass provides early entry. Vendors can secure a table through the QR code on the event flyer, and slots are filling quickly.

A veteran owned facility hosts free trail rides for veterans to give back and build connections within the community. These rides are planned about once a month when weather allows, and a relaxed fireside hangout follows. The atmosphere is casual, and no prior riding experience is required. The ride will be canceled if it is raining or if wind gusts are 15 mph or higher.

A ticketed Preview Party kicks off the ARTS FEST weekend with live music, drinks, and hearty hors d’oeuvres. Guests receive exclusive first access to the juried Gallery Exhibit to browse and purchase artworks, as well as an early opportunity to shop the outdoor Artist Market before the festival opens to the public. It is also a time to connect with artists, volunteers, and fellow patrons. Attendees can vote for a favorite piece from the exhibit to help determine the Patron’s Choice Award. Tickets are $55 and attire is dressy casual. The broader festival welcomes everyone with free admission on Saturday and Sunday.

ARTS FEST celebrates creativity in all its forms and has been a community tradition since 1963. A ticketed preview party kicks off the weekend, and the main festival welcomes everyone with free admission. Explore a gallery exhibit showcasing works across many mediums, browse the Artist Market in the Spigel Pavilion for handmade goods from ceramics to jewelry and more, and enjoy a food court with a variety of unique options. Families can spend time at KIDS FEST, a dedicated area where children engage with the arts through multi-disciplinary activities and experiences. Live music and performances take place throughout the weekend in the Music Tent and in the KIDS FEST area. Additional highlights include an art drawing raffle and self-guided tours of the Robert T. Webb Sculpture Garden. Artists, artisans, and food vendors can apply to participate in the Gallery Exhibit, Artist Market, or Food Court, and volunteer opportunities are available throughout the festival.

A creative group photo session centered on witchy style and sisterhood. Participants can bring a flowing dress, a witch hat, crystals, spell books, or anything that helps them feel like their most powerful self. Attendance is limited to 10 for a small group experience with ample time in front of the camera. Each participant receives individual portraits, group photos, and a gallery with a witchy theme. The cost is $40 per person, payable at booking to secure a spot, and spaces are offered on a first come, first served basis. The location will be announced.

A community ride supporting Mission 22 sets off from Mountain View CDJR in Ringgold, Georgia and finishes at Sam’s Burger Deli in Rome, Georgia. Entry is $22 per vehicle, and every dollar goes directly to Mission 22 to help combat veteran suicide and support those who served. All vehicle types are welcome, from cars and trucks to Jeeps and motorcycles. After the ride, attendees can enjoy live music, raffles, Mission 22 merchandise, and food at the destination. This hands-on program at Friends of the Vann House offers homeschool families a chance to explore archaeology through practical activities. Participants will catalog and label items from dig boxes, examine genuine artifacts connected to the Vann House, and visit spots where the original foundations were found. They will also learn how archaeological discoveries are made and documented. The program is best for children ages six and up. Admission is $6.50 per person, and children five and under are free. Historic Site passes are not accepted for this program. Admission also includes an optional tour of the house after the program. Pre-registration is by phone at 706-695-2598.
