Nature Lab is an enrichment program designed for homeschoolers ages 8 to 10, offering interactive projects and guided investigations in nature, ecology, and science. Each session introduces a new theme that helps students build meaningful connections with the environment. This bee-focused session explores how pollinators support everyday life. Participants will try a bee-inspired dance, learn how honeybees keep a thriving hive, and practice a pretend hive inspection. A half-mile walk leads to the honeybee hives at Yanahli Park, with a chance to spot the queen. Dress for outdoor walking. Because activities take place near active hives, this program is not advised for those with known or severe bee allergies. Bees are typically calm and will not be handled by participants, yet any visit near a hive carries a small risk of stings. The session takes place in the Yanahli Park Building, Duck River Room. This is a drop-off program, though adults may remain seated at the back if they prefer. If siblings attend, they should stay seated and quiet so the group can stay focused. Registration is $5 per participant.

The Duck River Cleanup brings volunteers together to remove litter from the river and nearby access points. Check-in takes place at the Riverwalk park boat ramp. Lunch is provided, and students can earn Tennessee Promise service hours. Participants may help by bringing a kayak or canoe, focusing on trash removal on foot at an access site, donating a door prize to thank volunteers, or reserving a spot in a canoe supplied by Higher Pursuits. Build confidence on a perimeter hike at Chickasaw Trace Park that increases the challenge while remaining approachable. The outing starts with a brief overview of day hike essentials, covering what to bring and what to skip, then heads out for a 5-mile trek expected to take about 3 hours. The route is rated moderate with roughly 230 feet of elevation gain. Participants are encouraged to bring a day pack, sturdy footwear, water, and a snack, and a picnic lunch is welcome for after the hike. Meet at the trailhead near the boat ramp. This program is free, and advance registration is requested.

Hyden Beach hosts a coed quads volleyball tournament with A and BB divisions, open to adults and juniors. Teams compete with two girls and two boys, and if a roster has only three players then at least one must be a girl. Solo players can register as free agents and will be placed on a team, with payment due only after placement. Play starts with pool rounds and then moves into a single-elimination bracket, with the final structure based on the number of teams and divisions and an emphasis on giving participants as many matches as possible. At least five teams are required within a division, or in a combined division, for the tournament to run. No AVPA membership is needed. Walk-up entries are not accepted, and advance registration with payment is required to secure a spot. Divisions may be combined and the format may be adjusted if necessary.
