The arc features an extended warmup of about 60 minutes followed by a main wave lasting roughly 60 to 75 minutes, with an opening circle and a closing circle woven into the experience. Hideout AnnexBat City Monthly Open Pinball Tourney @ Bender
A recurring open pinball tournament at Bender Bar & Grill features a lively block of qualifying packed with play and conversation. Players of every skill level are welcome, there is no cap on entries, and advance sign-up is not required. Cash prizes are awarded, and finalists often receive custom trophies across the skill divisions. The entry fee is $10, payable in cash, with exact change or small bills preferred. Games accept quarters and in some cases dollar bills, and a change machine is available. Qualifying is usually run as four-player group match play, with occasional head-to-head Max MatchPlay based on turnout and machine availability. When Max MatchPlay is used, participants are expected to stay for the entire event. With typical attendance, finals are held for A, B, and Novice divisions, with payouts split evenly between A and B. Formats commonly use single strikes or group match play, and the Novice final is a single group game. Automatic tiebreakers from the tournament software determine who advances to finals. Players ranked better than 1,000 are limited to A Division, and those better than 5,000 are limited to B Division. Higher seeds choose game or position. No new round will begin after three hours from the start of the first round. Extra balls must be plunged and not played, and there are no disqualifications for an out-of-turn extra ball. Any software or machine adjustments will be posted in the event discussion.

Mushroom Block Rescue: Sign-up to Volunteer
Volunteer to rescue spent mushroom blocks from the mushroom farm and give them a second life as soil. Each week, around 10,000 blocks are ready to be diverted from the waste stream, which helps reduce greenhouse emissions and support soil biodiversity. Participants load at least 50 blocks into their own vehicles, keep roughly half for personal or community projects, and deliver at least 25 to a nearby community pickup location. Trucks typically fit about 150 blocks and most cars handle around 75, and a tarp is recommended to manage the mess. Scheduling in advance is required because blocks are stored indoors and a staff member must be present to open the gate. A confirmation by text and email arrives the day before with instructions, safety protocols, and location details for pickup and the closest drop-off site. Pickup days have five volunteers on site and lines move quickly, although a wait of up to 30 minutes is possible. Supply is limited and varies with farming, and requests for specific mushroom varieties cannot be accommodated, so blocks are provided as available. If plans change, cancel to prevent materials from going to waste. This is a community based, volunteer run effort and blocks may not be resold. Shareable videos, printable materials, and FAQs are provided to help spread the word.

Impact Martial Arts - Austin, TXSummer Underground
The world premiere of Summer Underground brings a near-future Austin to the stage in a style inspired by graphic novels. Written by Marissa Castañón-Hernández and directed by Blaise Ricin, this new play confronts environmental and class inequities that shape who has access to water and shelter. First embraced in a reading at The VORTEX’s 2023 Green New Theatre Symposium, it now emerges as a full production within The VORTEX’s Summer Youth Theatre. Since 1991, Summer Youth Theatre has produced ambitious work created by Central Texas teens ages 13 to 17, pairing them with acclaimed Austin theatre professionals. Students train in theatre arts at a level aligned with Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills, equivalent to three credits and comparable to or exceeding High School Theatre Arts II, Technical Theatre I, and Theatre Production II. Over three decades the program has earned recognition including B. Iden Payne Awards for young performance, original song, outstanding productions, direction, acting, and sound design, with honors across titles such as The Memo, The Commedia of Errors, Machinal, The Physicists, Moby Dick, and The Frogs. The Austin Chronicle has praised the program for treating young artists with the respect afforded to adults. Playwright Marissa Castañón-Hernández is an Austin-based educator and writer with an MFA in Theatre from The University of Texas at Austin and more than two decades of experience teaching and directing young artists. Her advocacy for educational equity includes service as a TEACH PLUS State Policy Fellow and National Senior Writing Fellow, with published opinion pieces such as Children Deserve a Good Education, No Matter Where They Live and Denying Undocumented Children a Free Public Education is Unconscionable. She was named a 2025 Change Maker by Austin Woman magazine. Her play On the Eastside won first place in the 2023 Miranda Voces Latinx National Playwriting Competition and received a staged reading at Repertorio Español, and Summer Underground was previously presented in a staged reading at The VORTEX’s Green New Theatre in September 2023. She is also a 2024 Advance Gender Equity in the Arts Legacy Playwright Grant Finalist and Honorarium Recipient for The Same Stars Shine on Both Sides of El Río. Director Blaise Ricin is a VORTEX company member, director, performer, choreographer, and educator who helmed the earlier staged reading of Summer Underground. He is a B. Iden Payne Award recipient for Dance Performance and has assisted and choreographed for VORTEX productions including Selfie! The Musical, The Wizard of dOgZ, and The Mutt-cracker (SWEET!). Founded in 1991 by Producing Artistic Director Bonnie Cullum, Summer Youth Theatre reflects The VORTEX’s long-standing commitment to innovative, community-centered work. Cullum has been honored multiple times as Best Director by the Austin Chronicle, has received B. Los Skarnales has been performing since 1994, formed by original members Felipe Galvan and Jose Rodriguez after their time in the punk band Desorden. Lion Heights began in 2013 on Chicago’s West Side when Dane Foltin, Jeremy Carlson, and James Campbell met while studying at Columbia College. Rooted in the reggae of 1960s and 1970s Jamaica and blended with soul and R&B, the group has backed I-Wayne, Lady G, Sister Nancy, and Dawn Penn, and has supported Kabaka Pyramid, Jesse Royal, Pentateuch, Dubtonic Kru, New Kingston, and Lee "Scratch" Perry. The band moved to Austin in 2014 and has been a frequent presence on Texas stages. Born in Austin with deep ties to Mexico, Los Kurados brings a lively ska mix of punk rhythms, cumbia flavors, and classic upstrokes inspired by Jamaican tradition. Hideout AnnexSunday Pinballz League
Season 2 of the Pinballz Sunday League brings six weeks of qualifying play at The Original Pinballz Arcade, followed by a finals night to crown a champion. Each league night places players in groups of four to compete on selected machines, with points awarded per game using a 7, 5, 3, 1 system. After each round, groups are reshuffled using Swiss pairings so competitors face others near their current standing. The two lowest weekly totals are dropped from each player’s qualifying score, which keeps the field competitive even after an off night or a missed week. Top performers move on to a timed double elimination finale featuring head to head matches where the lower score earns a strike and two strikes mean elimination. The top three finishers share the prize pool. Open to all experience levels, the league offers friendly competition alongside a welcoming arcade community. These events are IFPA certified, so results count toward official rankings and IFPA conduct rules apply. Weekly admission is $10 and covers gameplay, prize pool contributions, and IFPA fees. Tickets are required for each week attended, and there is no need to commit to all seven weeks in advance. A Monday league with the same format is also available for those seeking additional play.
