This free, family-friendly festival at the Austin ISD Performing Arts Center celebrates Chinese heritage and the wider multicultural community. It begins with a lively Lion Dance that signifies good fortune, prosperity, and unity. A continuous stage program features traditional and contemporary music and dance, instrumental performances, opera, martial arts demonstrations, and collaborations with artists from other cultures that reflect Austin's diversity. Interactive exhibits explore history, customs, crafts, literature, and heritage, and local organizations host booths with cultural connections, educational resources, and community services. Families and children can enjoy traditional games and hands-on activities that encourage learning through play. Food offerings highlight authentic Chinese and other Asian cuisines, from regional specialties to favorite festival treats. This edition coincides with the Mid-Autumn Festival, known as 中秋节, which honors family reunions, moon appreciation, and sharing mooncakes. The event also marks the 10-year anniversary of the Austin Chinese-American Network.

ACL Live, 310 W. Willie Nelson Blvd, Austin · verified Sep 18
    See details

Indigo Girls perform with special guest Linda Perry in an all-ages show. The duo of Emily Saliers and Amy Ray has built a four-decade career with 16 studio albums and more than 15 million records sold. After starting out in Atlanta venues and signing with Epic Records, their self-titled release reached multi-million sales on the strength of Closer to Fine and Kid Fears, beginning a streak of six Gold or Platinum certifications. Their latest album, Look Long, finds them back in the studio with a full band while keeping the bar-band spirit that has long defined their work. Offstage, they support causes that include racial justice, reproductive rights, immigration reform, LGBTQ advocacy, education, death penalty reform, and Native American rights, collaborating with groups such as Project Say Something, El Refugio, Imagination Library, and First Peoples Fund. A new generation encountered their music when Closer to Fine appeared in Greta Gerwig’s film Barbie. Their story is also told in the documentary Indigo Girls: It’s Only Life After All, directed by Alexandria Bombach, which premiered at Sundance and later screened at SXSW, Tribeca, and Hot Docs before reaching Netflix. Their catalog also powers the jukebox musical Glitter & Doom from director Tom Gustafson, with appearances by Lea DeLaria, Tig Notaro, Kate Pierson, Peppermint, and a cameo from Amy and Emily. Known for turning concerts into communal singalongs with the crowd, Indigo Girls create a shared space for connection. Kiz ATX Sunday Practicas 2026

Esquina Tango Austin, 209 Pedernales St, Austin · verified Sep 18
    See details

At Esquina Tango Austin, a weekly Urban Kiz and kizomba session combines learning and social practice. It begins with a class led by Charles Ogar and Alina, followed by an open-ended practica where participants can drill specific elements, ask questions, or simply relax and dance. Partners rotate each song so everyone gets plenty of dances, and the group is open to anyone. No partner or prior experience is required, and newcomers learn alongside dancers who are already comfortable with the style. The music and movement are rooted in Angolan kizomba, with Urban Kiz connecting those roots to Black American culture through ghetto zouk, a style influenced by R&B and hip hop. Each week builds on the last, and class breakdowns are recorded and added to the Kiz ATX library for review between sessions. Wear shoes you can pivot in, such as flats or smooth soles with minimal grip, and bring water. Street parking is available around the building, along with a lot behind it, and it helps to allow a little extra time on busy nights. Presented by Kiz ATX in partnership with Esquina Tango.
