20th Annual Steps Against Melanoma Walk

Now in its twentieth year, the Steps Against Melanoma Walk at the Galveston Seawall brings survivors, caregivers, advocates, and supporters together to advance awareness, research, and community support. The event includes check-in and pre-walk activities, opening remarks, and a 5K fun run and walk. Funds raised support critical melanoma research, including initiatives such as the International Melanoma Tissue Bank Consortium. Participants help raise awareness of melanoma prevention, early detection, and treatment options while standing with those affected by the disease.

Fort San Jacinto Historic Point Volunteer Clean-Up

A community clean-up at Fort San Jacinto Historic Point in Galveston welcomes volunteers to help care for the island. Grabbers, gloves, and bags will be provided. Wear suitable shoes and clothing, as participants may be walking on sand or through water. The clean-up will proceed in most weather, so dress for the conditions, and it will be canceled if winter weather arrives on the coast. History on Tap Dinner at the 1951 Sam and Edna Maceo House

Enjoy History on Tap with an intimate, chef-prepared dinner served on-site at the 1951 Sam and Edna Maceo House, presented as part of Galveston Historical Foundation’s 52nd annual Galveston Historic Homes Tour. The evening includes a special tour of the house, and each reservation comes with a complimentary Homes Tour ticket. All ticket sales are final. Details about the chef and menu will be shared soon. Designed by the California firm Williams, Williams, & Williams, this Mid-Century Modern residence was created for entrepreneur Sam Maceo and actress Edna Sedgwick. The architects were recommended by Frank Sinatra, who had previously hired them for his 1947 Palm Springs home, Twin Palms. The Maceo House stands in Cedar Lawn, a neighborhood founded in 1926 that is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

History on Tap Dinner

History on Tap brings a seated dinner to the 1899 Methodist Parsonage as part of Galveston Historical Foundation’s 52nd Galveston Historic Homes Tour. A specially prepared meal will be cooked on-site and served in this historic residence, and the experience includes a tour of the property. Each reservation includes a Homes Tour ticket, and ticket purchases are nonrefundable. Chef biography and menu details will be shared later. Built in 1899 for St. John’s Methodist Church, this two-story Victorian served as the parsonage. After the 1900 Storm, pioneer Methodist minister Seth Ward lived here while uniting St. John’s and St. Paul’s as Central Methodist Church in 1901. Galveston realtor Zebulon Lewis White and his wife, Louise, purchased the home in 1911 and retained ownership for the next six decades. Located in the Kempner Park neighborhood, the house preserves many original features, including interior woodwork and decorative trim.

Entries must keep the recognizable hat silhouette, include at least one element gathered on Galveston Island such as shells, sea glass, driftwood, or local flora, and be hand embellished at home whether starting from a blank base or built entirely from scratch. Each crown is displayed with a written Lore Scroll that names the piece, shares its intention, highlights the folklore that inspired it, and identifies the island sourced find. Presentations are encouraged to feel enchanting, for example with parchment style pages, aged paper, or decorative lettering. On Galveston Beach, this gathering offers a different kind of women’s support group centered on the full moon. Each month a sacred circle forms beneath the stars to focus on release and renewal. Participants move through a variety of rituals designed to let go of what holds them back, then bask in the moonlight to strengthen intentions and encourage positive energy. Practices can change from month to month to support a flow state, and the experience closes with a guided meditation to process any emotions that surfaced. The circle honors each person and provides a welcoming, supportive space for sharing. Admission is $25.

TMMSN-Dolphin Conservation Workshop- May 30, 2026

Kids who love whales and dolphins can take part in an educational, hands-on Dolphin Conservation Workshop presented by the Texas Marine Mammal Stranding Network. The workshop focuses on interactive learning centered on marine mammal conservation. It is held on select dates and offered only a limited number of times each year. This west end sailing clinic in Sea Isle is presented in partnership with Harris Kempner Memorial Sailing School and is designed for athletic adults and youth ages 9 and older. Participants explore Hobie sailboat fundamentals, run handling drills in the basin, and go over safety procedures and recovery techniques before heading out to sail.
